Have you looked through any of the other Mikasa dish sets on their site? I was on there not too long ago and thought I saw where a lot of their sets are also sold as individual pieces.

I just got a set of Mikasa dishes as a gift from my daughter and her husband. I've heard they are wonderful and don't chip. I didn't find the pattern I got on their website though. The ones you have are really pretty.

lukkiirish, I did do that some time ago, and didn't find anything. I tried again just now though and widened the search terms. Found one pattern I thought might be a possibility but so far can't see that they sell salad plates separately. But this is a good idea, and thanks; I shouldn't have given up when I tried a few months ago.

This may or may not be helpful, but -- I have the same dishes. They were my "fancy" china (we are not fancy people) that we registered for when we got married. I hardly ever use it, though for a while I was using it for our everyday dishes. Anyway, a while back I bought some plain off-white dinner plates at Target. They're the same off-white that the Mikasa plates are, and they are a matte finish. The only thing is, I'm not sure if they come in a smaller size. These were full-size dinner plates. I am pretty sure they were the Target house brand ("Home"?).

I think a shiny plate would be fine with your matte stuff. I can see a pale gold salad plate....perhaps Fiesta has a color that would go well.
I can vouch for the sturdiness of Mikasa's everyday china...I love the stuff.....and their fine china also is great everyday china.....very hard wearing!

Thanks, sueb20. We aren't fancy people either. I hope to find something colorful, but if I can't find that I could go with a white that matches Garden Harvest. Could yours be "Granite"? I looked at Target, and that seemed like it might be a match.

Also, what if you did something like this, where the color is on the outside of the plate but the interior is white? These may or may not match the white of yours and I can't tell if they are matt or shiney but they do come in a variety of colors and there are other brands with a similar look.

I have the same set and found dishes at Ikea that go quite well. Their "Fargrik" line has a nice green matte color and you can buy the pieces that you want.

The eggplant color would work, as well and is also a nice color combo with Garden Harvest.

I have Garden Harvest dinnerware, too! I've had it for at least 10 years, they are very well made and sturdy.

I had thought of white with a border in color, but in my internet searches (mostly for "matte green stoneware") and in my IRL searches through stores I just hadn't come up with anything. We live in very southern Colorado, with the nearest halfway decent shopping 35 miles away, and that's as far as I'd gotten. No Ikea except in Denver 200 miles one way, etc., etc.

I need to first check out Lindac's suggestion that a shiny plate might be okay by sticking a saucer in my purse and going to IRL stores to find out. Then I can go back to Dinner_Plates.com and all the other places you folks suggested and feel confident about buying something online.

Blubird, I'm really intrigued by the IKEA Fagrik in eggplant, it's the kind of unexpected combination I enjoy, and would probably go perfectly with the grapes in the Mikasa, but they don't sell those online. So far a search for "eggplant stoneware" hasn't come up with much -- Rachael Ray's looks too purple -- but now I'm inspired. Maybe I can find a variety of colors.

Olychick, thanks for posting the Mikasa suggestions. I had looked at the Swirl Sage online yesterday but couldn't decide. I'll go do some IRL checking out when I go to "town" tomorrow.

Thanks again to everyone for your generosity in making suggestions. I'm starting spring cleaning this week, but have to go to the doc tomorrow anyway so I can take some time off to have a great time looking at stoneware!

Besides deciding if you can live with shiny vs matte, you also want to consider the weight of the plates. A heavy, bulky stoneware might not fit with the more refined sense of the Mikasa you have now.

You might also consider going to Mikasa.com and using their chat line to ask for suggestions about what might coordinate from their line. It appears that the chat line is down right now (perhaps for the holiday week), but they might have some good ideas of what white or colors in the line would work for you.

Bed, Bath and Beyond sells a lot of china, if you have one of those nearby. You could bring one of your plates and see what would work.

I love IKEA, and would be happy to go and purchase dishes for you and ship them, if that seems to be what you like best. In fact, I would be happy to go and get one dish, send it to you, and see if that works. I need to get up there to get a lampshade anyway.

The only downside to IKEA is that they change things up, and don't necessarily carry patterns for a long time, so you could end up wanting to get more down the line and not having them available.

But let me know if you want a dish to try!

I have 10 full place settings of Mikasa Garden Harvest, many matching serving and baking dishes, etc. given as gifts to me over the years. I don't use them often, because I'm not crazy for all of the matched patterns. So - I'll be interested in what you find.

I bougt some golden/wheat-colored glass salad plates from IKEA but they look too modern with the pattern for my taste. Then in the opposite direction, I went on Google images for "Mikasa Garden Harvest" and a photo of a tablesetting came up where a woman used German fruit plates with the pattern. A little too formal for me, but it might give you some ideas.

I just want to butt in again and say that this discussion makes me want to start using my Garden Harvest plates again!

I've always loved them and after all these years they still look fresh to me. I am going to dust them off and start using them regularly - but I'm with the OP - I need to lighten the load of pattern with some contrast besides table linens.

seagrass, the fruit plates were too much for me too. And I couldn't see anything plain combined with the GH in any of the other photos. If you find something perfect to coordinate please post it, and I will too.

As I posted on another forum, I'm five weeks out from a total knee replacement and trying to get my house cleaned from top to bottom before I go, so you might be waiting a while before I get my plate-search done! However, I'm going to town tomorrow and am going to start. I think the eggplant is a lovely idea. I'll keep you posted, and thanks so much again.

My DH is about two and a half weeks away from a TKA on the left knee. He is going to be my guinea pig, as I need both knees done (no cartilage left in either knee, bone on bone for several years now) but just can't bring myself to do it. A lot of expense, lost income, and permanent changes in your life and health stuff.

That was very nice of you to explain the email - maybe we should start a TKA forum. I have my first appt. with the surgeon in March and then we'll schedule the surgeries. I wish I could put it off a little longer until they decide which knee works best and lasts the longest.

Maybe we should start a TKA forum; there certainly seems to be a lot of people who have had or are having one. There are already good forums out there, though. I don't want to hijack this one with my knee stuff. Good luck to all of us!

I did go to town yesterday and looked at BB&B for stoneware to match the Mikasa. I didn't find anything I liked, but have concluded it does need to be a matte finish. My plan is to continue on hobbling through various places that you guys have suggested until I find what I think harmonizes perfectly. You all have given me lots of ideas, and thank you very much. The Mikasa rep I chatted with said they have nothing that will coordinate with Garden Harvest. I asked her about your suggestions, olychick, and she said all of those are glossy. I guess the search will continue. I didn't make it to anywhere but BB&B and Kohl's yesterday. Thanks again, everyone.
