walkin, cute is the word that came to me too. Hope it's comfortable--the one thing that's always an issue wrt vintage couches is depth of seat, since DH is 6'4". People were just shorter back then :)

If you do get it, with all my obsessing over paint colors recently I can imagine some beautiful wall colors to go with it, from various angles of relationship, e.g. reinforcing, complementing...and does the color of the couch go with your other furniture?

Thanks for the supportive karma, guys. DH and I are both short, so seat depth is rarely a problem for us save in the other direction -- toes dangling awkwardly off the ground.

Fly, we'll take all the paint colors you can give us and then some! I am still searching for the perfect light beige... but am no longer sure that that's the color we want anyway. DH and I can't agree, as usual. (He wants blue, despite the fact that our bedding sets are a grey-toned taupe and a grey-toned green. Will not go with gray, even though that's the obvious color. What is it with men and blue?)

It is making me CRAZY that I live so damn far from a BM store: our local SW is just no help at all and doesn't have premade samples of their lighter paints, and their quart-sized mixes are always off or weird, even the manager warned me they would be. No help from Lowe's or HD. We have a Kwal and a Dunn-Edwards nearby; haven't ventured in there yet.

Organic_smallhome, a while back, advised me to buy a bunch of BM samples online, and then go get them mixed in another paint when I find the color I like. I wasn't into that idea then, but now, I think she might have been right... and she's no longer around to tell her so!

Whew. OK. Paint rant over, sorry. We can go back to talking about furniture now.

I got it! for $100! prob. should have offered less, but there were several people in line behind me and got nervous...

one leg is a little loose, the back is a slightly different color from the rest of the piece (I am honestly considering redoing just the back in some sort of fabulous ornate material or something, open to suggestions, will post pics soon), but otherwise, it's gorgeous. The CL pic doesn't quite do it justice, b/c it makes it look twee, when it's actually a sophisticated, tailored little piece. Not sure whether it's deco or MCM, but I love it.

Frame is heavy and rock-solid. Mushroom-colored leather, of excellent quality, and the seller gave me a roll of what turned out to be scraps of the leather -- a few big pieces as well, could probably do the top of an ottoman with them if so inclined. This would have cost thousands when new.

Hooray! Now I have to stop buying furniture and start figuring out how to make it all come together! (Fly, about that paint...)

And can I say that I don't hear the word "twee" often enough now that I've left NYC? I had a British friend who always used it and I miss her *and* it! :)

How did the person come to have scraps of the leather? Was it reupholstered?

So now paint...I'd love to help think that through. I can't tell you how happy our entire family is with our new colors. But that can wait -- you got a cool new leather sofa for $100!

The sofa is very untique I think. And looks like it came right out of a early sixty's, very good looking.
