Sorry, I have to agree with your DH. It is not about being matchy-matchy, but this piece just feels wrong in the room.

I think the idea of collected over time is wonderful - so don't be afraid to do that. CL is just one source of things, and there are estate sales, garage sales, etc. to consider.

I would keep looking. Is this the final arrangement of the room?

I didn't think it looks right either. Looks kind of Elizabethan or Victorian to me. No need to rush. I'd just hang onto the $70 for something you really shouldn't be spending quite so much on in the future.

Ok... I'm not an expert by any means, but I like it and think it would work.

Majority feedback was for squirrel's version, though it still feels like I have an empty corner on the right and the drum table is floating between living room and entry. I wish I had a second floor to photograph from to give the pics more perspective. In any case, it will evolve as I fill it out a bit more with the rug, coffee table, art, lamps, etc.

ezbake: Glad to hear I'm not alone in liking the piece, but seems we're the minority at this point so I'm hesitant to move forward.

How about trying the sofa floating in front of the fireplace with a gorgeous sofa table behind it -- as the very first thing you see as you walk into the room.

Then your yummy chairs could cozy up in front of the window with a round table (and lamp) between them.

And the piano could stay at the center (and remain the focus) of the right-hand wall ......

I like the table, but not in this beautiful room.

Not because of wood species or style, but because it is 16" deep! It seems that is waaaaay too deep for the space you want to put it in. It would push the sofa too far out into the room. Aren't you also looking for a coffee table?? Or is this to take the place of the coffee table?

And if the sofa is also the guest bed, is there room to move all the furn out of the way w/out having to move some to another room?

If you are firm on a sofa table, look for something much more narrow. Don't rule out unfinished furn that could be stained. Lots of styles out there.

Or how about a standing planter? Think of window box on legs. This would be long and narrow and a little something unexpected in the room, too.

I like the addition of the iron into your room -- helps break up all that wood. So I vote for the second one (or keep looking). Have you looked at Ballard? They have cute little iron tables.

valinsv~Your topiary is so elegant. I like the planter idea best, and you could change it out seasonally.

The walnut piece is too big, and IRL walnut is so very different than mahogany. I personally feel that matching the wood or finish is more important than matching the style exactly, if the pieces share other similarities, and are in scale, to each other and the room.

My mom had an octagonal walnut dining table, with ladder-back rush seated chairs. I hated that with a passion!

I, too, like the idea of an open piece of iron. Not sure that's it, and it actually looks kind of deep and not wide enough. But something along those lines would be quite nice, I think. Open work with scrolly leaves or vines.
