I think both blues look(ed) great! The red furniture adds a nice complement. Why are you stressing over it? Move on to the nursery and let the kids enjoy their room. ;)

I like the palatial skies blue. I think it's very pretty, particularly with the red accents you have with the white trim. Bean bag chairs in front of the window would be great. Nice job IMHO.

Blue is such a hard color. Our daughter's room practically glowed until we got the furniture in there.

I don't think the blue is wrong at all. I think what is missing is some personality in the space, some sense of the kids that live there. Everything is so well matched, and paired and lined up. It is great for a pix, and you are to be complimented on what you have done, for sure. But it needs some fun!

Also, right now, the window is the focus, because everything is pushed flat against the two side walls, so the centerpiece of the room is ... the window. A colorful play rug in the middle, under those beanbags, would liven up that big dead space in the middle. A wall-mounted lamp by the head of each bed, so that the kids can read, with fun shades - maybe with their own artwork pasted on. A bookcase with a load of books - maybe two low ones in front of the window, where the beanbags and rugs are. A cool mobile hanging from the middle of the room, maybe one with the planets on it. Some books and a mix of things on the hutch, rather than three vertical lines of almost identical items.

You have done a great job creating the foundation of the room - now just let it reflect the personality and charm of the kids that inhabit it!

I really like the blue but understand how overwhelming a color like that can feel. From looking at the pictures, I think that a great upholstered headboard (these are so EASY to make if you and Dh are handy at all) in a bright green (like the lampshade) and a great rug or colorful beanbags (or big floor pillows) as Les suggested would go a LONG way to softening the impact of the blue.

I'm with Les, the color isn't the problem. You have all the right ingredients, just all too far apart. Your lucky to have such a spacious room, but unless your children prefer their beds to be so far apart I think I'd place them against one of the windowless walls to either side of the one with the large nice window depending on where the door to the room is. You have a nice red night stand that would be perfect between the two beds so the children could share the lamp.

If you like the beds they way they are how about painting the table and chairs red and bringing them back for in front of the window. It looks as though there's still room for the nightstand next to one bed and possibly the smaller red table for the other bed. The lamps don't have to match.
Without seeing the other side of the room, not sure what else to say for now. Can you take pictures from the window wall so we can see the rest of the room?

You've done a great job bringing the colors together, all I think you need now bringing it all closer so it won't look so spread out.

I have to preface this by saying I love blue.... and I think both blues look great. I agree with everyone that maybe all you need to make it be "right" in your eyes is a few more touches of "stuff".

Have you looked at BM Denim Wash? I used to have Blue Bayou in my son's room and we changed it to Denim Wash and now love it.

Great job, my DH would've said "why are we painting this again, it's blue." I like the slope painted and the red bedskirts and agree with Les's suggestions.

Yes -- add a colorful rug -- maybe a round red braided rug? in the center of the room with the bean bags ......

Love the idea of the lamps near the beds (so cozy!) -- with the red night stands .....

How about adding a large bulletin board on each wall (paint the frame red) -- so the kids can add fav family photos and "stuff" -- check out the larger ones at Target's office supply section ......

Your room reminds me of this one that was posted recently. I think her color works well with the bedding.

An idea your DH will probably hate: what about painting your ceiling? Maybe even the original Muslim color you had on the walls previously. I think it would soften the look and make the blue walls easier on your eyes.

Here is my 2 cents again. I like the lighter blue but a denim or linen effect might look good too although I like the blue color as it is. also what about some tall narrow bookshelves on each side of the windows, some large silly pictures of the kids on the wall (8x10) and on the long walls a shelf that is even with the ceiling ridge (what is that a foot from the ceiling line?)with a collection of something (firetrucks or something?), a big fun rug in front of the window, a bottom curtain on the window and that is just a start. The room looks like a good start especially considering the size but it is a kids room after all and should be fun and stimulating. The blue looks good it just needs more "stuff". LOL I would trim everything in white and red. Okay okay I am a Navy person but I still think red white and blue always works.

It looks great! I definitely prefer the Palatial Sky blue to the other, and agree with the above suggestion to pull the beds closer together with the red nightstand between them.

Have you thought about leaving the kids' table white but painting the chairs? 2 in the red and 2 in the green would look wonderful! I'm hoping I like the look, because I just ordered a similar table and chairs set with a white table and the chairs in 4 different colors (butter, sage, sky blue, and pink) for my DD - at her request (and I'm pretty sure that only she will be able to use the pink one!). These colors are all used in her other wood play furniture so I think it will be very sweet.

OH, and add a headboard for each!

The palatial blue is great. The room is too neat.

To make it more fun and less predictable, I would paint the bit of angled ceiling on the window wall in a third color--the green would be wonderful! I would leave the beds where they are, and put a fun play rug (town, railroad, etc.) in front of the window and between the beds. And let the playing begin!

Looks similar to my daughter's room! I like the brighter blue, too, though.

I think you have done a great job matching things. I agree with PPs that it just needs a little character now! I can't wait to see it with a colorful, fun rug in front of the window and some toys and beanbags! And maybe get some of the kids artwork framed to add additional character. Can't wait to see it again!

I would stick with the current color too. Personally, I have to really dislike a color before I'll go to the trouble of repainting.

I like Les' suggestion about the bookcase under the window and the wall lamps by the beds. I liked the table by the window; the horizontal-ness of it helped offset the other perpendicular dimension created by the two beds. Maybe you could try those cube storage things under the window, just one high so it wouldn't block the window.

I can see something like this rug working in there. This photo has all the colors of your room. It is the Hudson rug.

I guess it is a bit neat in there...lol. That is how is until they come home from school. Directly across from their room is the playroom, which is why it may seem a bit barron...90% of their toys are in here.

I was looking at rugs and thought a shaggy rug may add a bit of texture and spunk to the space. I really like the Hudson Rug as well.

Just to give a bit more info...directly across from the double window is a set of two closets. When walking in, on the right, there is a small wall (the depth of the closets). I am currently looking for a bulletin board to hang in that space.

The dimensions of the room are a bit large for a kid's room...but they love all the free space for setting up their castles, forts, and play villages:) Though, I would like to feel a bit more pulled together and cozy.

We did try the beds on coming out from the back wall. Unfortuately it made getting to the closet difficult.

I like all three colors and feel blue is a great color for a child's room. For myself, I love the BM Muslin color a lot and now wonder if my bedroom with the Antique White Furniture will look great. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Maybe you could paint some clouds on that one blank blue wall? Or, dare I say, Wallies? Instead of bean bag chairs, I'd go for a rug, and maybe some sort of bench with storage in front of the window. And maybe have the beds face each other with the headboards against the wall?

Blue can look cold, but warming it up needn't be too costly or time consuming.

For now the blue color is staying. We are currently finishing the nursery and painting the kitchen/dining room (C2 cornsilk) and the fmaily room (C2 Range). If I come across a blue that "makes my heart sing" I may go for it, but not likely until the spring.

I think I will try to incorporate some of these suggestions before repainting. I will be looking for after Christmas sales on some additional pieces to pull the room together.

Funny... I had typed my thoughts and the only thing that appeared was "add a headboard". I'll try again!

I absolutely LOVE your decorating style in this room. Since it is so close to what I love this is fun for me. Here's my suggestions.

1. Keep the blue. Too cute! The letters look lonely above the bed. This is where my eye first went. I'd frame the letters with a square or rectangle. Maybe white like your molding or red like the accent colors.

2. I'd move the one end table somewhere else and instead put two swing arm lamps beside the windows next to each bed. These are boys, right? I'd add a touch of black or navy blue, maybe a cute red/blue striped lamp shade. Pottery barn has many that would match this theme.

3. I'd fill up that bottom shelf of your hutch with plenty of books. On one of the other shelves, I'd give each child a blue or red fabric basket to keep their stuff in. Target or Bed Bath and Beyond have these.

4. If the boys are under 7 I'd keep the table. If they are older you may want to substitute something else.

5. Definitely add some bean bags!

6. Add a cool looking rug. Maybe under the window where the bean bags would go.

7. KEEP the blue. It is perfect!

8. Either frame the letters so in effect that becomes your headboard or move the letters and the pictures onto a ledge together (same spot as the current pictures) and add a headboard.

That's how I'd do it. My four boys are all sports fans so I'd also have their individual sports all over their walls and baseball cap all over and things like that.
