Comments (18)I'm bringing this back up as you asked about my painting real shells & adding Twinkles glitter! Wish I could show a pic but my camera will discard all my pics that are on it now unless I get DD over to change setting & after she puts them on backup! Anyway this is so simple. I tried the antique copper metallic paint- OK, doesn't show up much on tree, but then I used FolkArt 675 Metallic Champagne brush it on & let dry overnite & brush on "Twinkles" crystal by DecoArt for a beautiful shimmery shell. Folk Art 659 Metallic pearl white brushed on & brushed with Twinkles the next day is wonderful also!! I just cut a 3 in. piece of fine gold cord & knotted it on the end & put the knot in Weldbond on the back top center edge of shell for a hanging cord. So simple & so beautiful. I did a doz. today & I love the fan shaped shells but the small conch? shells are nice also. They shimmer in gold, purple, blue, green etc.(All those colors in the crystal bottle, it is best glitter I've ever used & very fine, doesn't look like glitter. I have some other by same company but it is tacky looking & very little shimmer. This glitter reminds me of sparkle of white sand on a beach in the sun!! Try it. You don't have to be a painter, any artist type brush that is flat & about 1/4 to 1/2 in across will work, watch for drips & remove them but it's so easy. I let them dry on a board covered with smooth Formica but wax paper would work just fine. I had gotten a bag of shells from WalMart craft area & some of those were used. I only painted the front side not the side the animal lived in. I was careful not to get paint on it so it would look nice on the tree from any angle. Some of my fans had lovely purple on backs. Fun & fast! Enjoy!! Jan...See MoreMy 'new' Old House - lots 'o pics
Comments (9)Aha another Hamiltonian! We are new to Hamilton - love the architecture :) Well, if the kitchen is anything like the bathroom, it will be like an archeological dig. We had no fewer than *8* layers of floor in our bathroom. We stripped it all, except for the very last bottom layer, which we had some concerns about being made of asbestos. Now our bathroom floor is 1.5 inches lower. I need to stand on my tippy toes to see in the mirror, lol. OH woe the lack of insulation. We are freezing. Is the character worth it? Maybe...lol...no, it is. Maybe. In July ;) ;) ;)...See MoreFinally, pics of our completed beach house -- pic heavy!
Comments (46)Thanks for letting me know those are Flor tiles, Sue! Even better! They would likely work better than the rug I have in my kitchen because the ends of the rug are bulky and get in the way of the trash compactor opening. I have been having a hard time finding the right long rug for the hallway that will run from our front door to the mudroom, too. I will have to keep an eye out for good deals on flor tiles while we do that part of our remodel. I have been really enjoying the home decor forum here now that our kitchen is mostly done, and we will be starting on the rest of the house this spring. We just got cafe curtains hung in the kitchen and dining room today, so it was nice to see your curtains, too. Just enough for privacy, but still lets the light in......See MoreHelp! Comments (28)I've been going back and forth on your post for awhile now just looking and thinking. I have oak cabinets too and we changed out the hardware to ORB. I love it. I hear your pain on painting the cabinets! DH is the same way but has always been fine w/ me painting our cabinets. We've just never gotten around to it though. Leaving the cabinets as is until you cajole your DH into painting I think that white is a good decision for table and chairs. But Let me toss this idea out to you: Should you eventually paint your cabinets would you consider painting your table base in a pale shade of grey/ blue? I suggest this just because I think that those curtains need something a little 'weighty' in the kitchen w/ the addition of the brown sectional being in the other room. Or maybe not. I forgot that you were painting the wals green and I don't feel like erasing everything that I just typed!...See MoreSueb20
