What is with bloggers who restore/repurpose vintage furniture having to name the pieces? This morning within 15 minutes I encountered no less than three inanimate wooden objects given names: John, Marsha, Richard.

I've heard of people naming their cars, but furniture? That is really stupid. And why would you name it "John"- isn't there already something named that in the house?

Hahaha! I thought perhaps I was just having an EMCM (Early Morning Curmudgeonly Moment), but I'd probably find it annoying at any time of the day. There are a couple of blogs I've stopped reading entirely because the writers (who do a nice job of restoring vintage pieces) insists on naming them: Rosa, Miss Ella, Gertrude, Marilyn, Bobbie Jo. Please. It's like cutesy-overload gone viral. One blogger starts doing it, and others pick up on it, and it becomes a silly trend. I've also really started noticing how many bloggers take photos of the same vignette from numerous angles, ever since somebody mentioned it here in another thread. I don't want to see your Santa-under-a-bell-jar photographed 27 different ways.

They do have a cat fence you can install along yours at the top. I get some extra money I think I'm going to look at that. I did my time in the mtns taking care of the strays and finding homes. These aren't strays here in town, these are peoples cats. Yeah, I'm tired of the cat fights. This one baby cat that's almost full grown now I guess I've adopted, but I don't want the others I've seen from time to time either. I agree. I get tired of being woke up in the night to cat screams and having vet bills too. I know my 4 cats stay in my back yard, they're too afraid to go anywhere else. Anytime I go outside day or night they're out there either in the open or hiding behind a bush or on the patio. They don't like people, scared to death of machines ie: mowers, cars etc. My yard is their private little woods now. Too bad Jackson, the big 110 pound lab, he lost weight, likes cats, he'd be my biggest deterent. In any case he has a fractured knee and not up to chasing cats. Your pets are your babies, I'd be lying in wait with a bb gun:) Ok at least have the hose ready with the water nozzle on jet and a couple of times of that he ought to get the message. BTW the water scarecrow does really work too if you want to invest that money in it, just make sure you turn it off when you want to walk by, LOL* I tried it out first to keep my cats out of the mini garden. I nailed myself a couple of times....

I belonged to a pot luck monthly dinner club for about 12 years. There were 5 couples and we alternated so you had a month when you were host and 4 months off. The host provided the meat course and all drinks, alcoholic and otherwise, and the guests brought vegetables, salad, hors d'ouvres and dessert. And that also alternated. It was very interesting because one gal didn't cook....at all! But was willing to learn....sow e had a few interesting things in the first few years...until she learned to read a recipe! LOL! When wew ent to their house, they almost always served steaks that he grilled ( and very well too I might add!) and hordouvres were things like a big bowl of shrimp, or a side of smoked salmon, sometimes some nice cheeses and deli spreads....but the vegetables and salads were the adventure! Over the years we all learned some things. One gal never made desserts and had no idea how to make a pie or cake, but she learned that brownies and icecream were good as were fruits and bought pound cake. I am bad at veggies to take, I don't make veggie casseroles, but learned to take fresh veggies to be quickly steamed on site or a dish of veggies to be roasted. But I have never liked no list potlucks. Years ago I hosted a lot of cast parties for the community theater. Very often there were 75 to 80 and once I counted 120 people....sitting on the stairs and standing anywhere they could find a square foot to stand in! It was the custom for the host to order food and soft drinks and to tell everyone how much their share was and then everyone would bring something to share. The usual "cost" was about $5 per person...that covered drinks meat and buns for sandwiches. So I decided I could do better.....and made a gazillion buns with one other person's help and bought a ham and had it shaved and bought a big beef roast, cooked it and had it shaved and bought and roasted a turkey and had my DH carve it. And used my own plates and silverware. Costs for that amounted to about $1.50 per person. I counted on others to bring potato salad, and brownies and such....and got bags and bags of chips and commercial dip... So the next time I made coleslaw.... and provided a sign up sheet for chips and dips, raw veggies, desserts and specified cookies or bars, potato salad and posted a category for "miscellaneous"....and some idiot brought a frozen pizza that had to be cooked, watched so it didn't burn and cut and served....and it only served 8! I hate to be surprised when I am hosting a huge party. Linda C

Storklady, It is okay to raise the price of something once it's listed. A Seller can change the price as often as they want, with no time restrictions. Etsy does not control or dictate to us what something is priced at - we do. There is no bidding on Etsy, except in Alchemy, which is a site on Etsy where customers can list something they want, a purple tutu, for example, and ask other Etsians to bid on what they would charge to make the purple tutu. Then Sellers are bidding against each other for that particular sale. Etsy is a "buy it now at this price" business. But I still think it's poor ethics not to honor the original price of an item that a potential buyer has just inquired about. Especially one who was asked to wait to review more listings of similar items because she'd shown interest in those other items before making her final purchase. If it had been me, I'd have sold you that map, and all the other newly listed maps that you were waiting for, at the original price. But that's just me. I am not an aggressive saleswoman, just a conscientious one. I like repeat business, and that's no way to encourage repeat business, IMHO.

Perhaps all this points out is there is a reason ACTORS get paid big bucks for commercials and infomercials. You Tube is an amateur show!!! It is designed to give non professionals a platform. YOU CHOSE it if you are bothering to watch these people!!! Speaking "off the cuff";as most You Tubers are, will almost always get one using a lot of pauses and ums as well as off topic straying. I was taught in speech 101 in high school and college words are money. When broadcast or in-front of an audience short, simple, clear is required if you want to come across educated, intelligent and competent. Again not so sure that is the goal of most You Tubers. As far as the use of language and new words emerging..well that has always been the unique thing about English. It isn't a dead language. It is still growing and evolving. Even Websters began updating and each year there are more and more words included. Blatant grammar mistakes do grate on my ears like the old school finger nails on a chalk board example but for me the bottom line is COMMUNICATION. Did the point of the speaker get across and was it understood. Innovation with word usage bothers me not. And I think it is a battle lost YEARS AGO.

While it's a good idea to take a lot of pictures from different angles, it's not a good idea to post ALL of them. Just the best ones.

There's no editing. Talk about narcissistic!

One of the bloggers I know was the same on an internet forum. She couldn't post just one or two pics ... it was always dozens.

I agree Jen, I get so disappointed when I see 10 pictures on the same item. Two, yeah.

I pretty much stopped looking at blogs because everything is WHITE. White furniture, white tables, white rugs on wood floor...Pottery Barn decorating I suppose. Even when I find a country blog, it's still all white! Excuse me, but real country folks do NOT decorate in white unless it's paint.

I think I went off topic a bit. :)

Basically many of the high-end designers do indeed name their creations (whether fabric, lamps or furniture) ... perhaps these folks are simply following that trend?

For an example -- see page 48 of this month's (Dec/Jan) House Beautiful magazine -- console tables with names like Perseus ... and Hudson .... etc.

I don't have a blog but I do restore/repurpose/paint vintage furniture for a hobby/pseudo living and I have never ONCE considered naming any of the pieces, so this is just IMO, as previously mentioned is totally narcissistic.

Maybe some of the followers of these blogs should just tell the blogger just how annoying it is to see this trend?
