headboard/master bedroom redo suggestions? (pics)
Comments (6)Olychick, I totally agree with you about variation and depth. That's what I was going for, even though I know I haven't achieved it yet. I love texture in decorating. I bet softening even just a few of the edges more will go a long way towards what you're saying. This is definitely a work in progress. I really wish the lighting was better. I will dig out my real camera and try to get some better shots. Thanks, rafor. I also agree with you about the sharp edge of the top of the white panel. DH suggested dental moulding, but I don't like that idea. I'm more inclined to put up a thin, one- or two-inch shelf with shells and stuff up there as I describe in my OP to funk up the top of it...haha...love that!...See MoreNeed advice with headboard selection-pix included
Comments (9)Pattycakes, I'm glad you don't think velvet is dated. It's either that or taffeta, LOL, I found a real steal on some lighter milk chocolate taffeta fabric today that's pretty hard to resist, price-wise, so I may use that instead. Pmartin, that cording is blue, brown and almond like the silk, and I'll use it on the outer seam of the duvet. Tomorrowisanotherday, you sure know your paint - you absolutely nailed it on the recommendation of SW Macadamia! I went by Sherwin Williams today and picked up some sample strips, and the Mac matches the silk perfectly.....it's such a pretty color! I think that would be ideal for the wall color. If DD wants to go with another color, Quietitude or Rainwashed both looked great with the toile Four Seasons. It's great to have choices...... Deeinohio - great idea about making the headboard a slipcover, I'm working on that idea. The only problem with that is that I wanted to tuft the headboard, or use nailheads, and I can't do that if it slips on and off. I'm still on the fence thinking that over. Kimiko232, I agree, a milk chocolate would be better than a deep, dark brown. I'm afraid if it's too dark that would be too strong against the lighter almond and robins egg. I'm hoping to get a soft, airy look for the room, so think I need to stay on the lighter end of the color spectrum. Thank you all for your comments and advice. I'm learning a lot as I go. I found a tone on tone silk stripe remnant today that matches the silk in the duvet that I decided to use for the chair, instead of a darker brown. I think that will look better, especially since the walnut stain on the chair is already so dark that a darker brown would just be too much of the same color. I'll make some decisions on the upholstered headboard within the next few days, now that I have some direction....See MoreComplimenting an inverted arch headboard...
Comments (1)I have an inverted arch bed (wood, not metal, though) with a wide rectangle, framed painting above. I think the shapes work well together. In my mind, it;s more about the scale of what you hang and the visual weight. An open metal bed like that has much less visual weight than a wood bed and so you need something above it that won't overpower it - make sense?...See Morewrought iron headboard as wall decor
Comments (4)Would you center it on the wall? I'm trying to picture this... I used to have an iron four poster bed that I wound a single strand of greenery around the posts to soften the appearance. What do you mean by a "written phrase"?...See MoreUser
