Walkway and raised bed next to front door
Comments (8)It might be just me,but I don't see a front door or a walkway in this picture. Can't quite figure out what it is i'm looking at!! Did you by any chance post the wrong picture??? I'm just north of you in Oceanside, also along the coast.I have heavenly bamboo planted near my front porch.I like it as it's colorful year round, and in the fall has berries for the birds. Let me see if I can find a picture. Here you go,it's the bush/hedge on the left side in the picture, and you can see the nice coloring it has. hth Kathi...See MoreOutdoor Lights (next to front door)
Comments (2)Choosing fixture size is all about proportion. Whether or not the 17" is too big depends on the space around it. If you have a large front porch where it won't feel like you you are going to walk into them it can work. If you have a petite front porch then that may be why the home designer only included the recessed fixture(s) as porch lighting. If the recessed fixtures are positioned to adequately light the steps and wash the door with light this will be a nice look. If you have a pretty entry door let that be the decoration. Not seeing the source of a light and only seeing something attractive well lit can be a very nice effect....See MoreHELP.... Front door light and garage light
Comments (4)Yes DM it is an awkward spot. I appreciate your input and wish I would have thought about electrical prior to this point. We were doing a front room/kitchen/bathroom remodel, I never considered having the electrical moved for the front porch light and now it is too late. We are hoping to update the exterior in the spring so I am keeping in the back of my head the hope of moving the light....See MoreFront door light battle: Fixture size or house style?
Comments (24)The suggestions so far have been great, so thanks! I know that it's wise to focus on more than the cosmetics of the fixture. In my case, though, the front door light would primarily be an adornment because that door receives very little use, even from visitors. And because our neighborhood street lights are brighter than the sun, visibility after dark is good. I don't mean to minimize the importance of good lighting, but that isn't the motivation here. Finding a new above-door fixture was my goal, but am also considering no light at all....See Morepatty_cakes
