appliances sticking out from cabinets
Comments (8)It sounds like your cabinets aren't installed yet. Can you shim out the base units, at least, a bit? (Your counter will be deeper.) I am considering doing just that since the range we're getting is one of those extra-deep pro-style ones. Anyone done this with the deeper ranges? I am not going to make it flush, just so that there's a, maybe, 1" protrusion rather than 3"! A word of warning though: I did that in our last house for the slide-in electric range we had. We used formica counters, and didn't take into account that the edges alongside the range also needed to be nicely finished. With the oven door closed, it all looked fine, but once you open the oven door you can see an inch or two of the unfinished inside edge of the counter. We had to retrofit it with a strip of formica that never looked exactly right. Obviously, with granite this would not be a problem!...See MoreAnyone have problems with their pull-out trash cabinet?
Comments (35)One of my client's broke her pull out which is a cabinet door attached to a bottom mount pullout. She said she was pushing trash down into it (which I believe, she was probably cramming). She said drinking was not involved, (which I don't really believe). Anyway it can't be fixed without replacing the bottom of the cabinet since the screws split the cabinet floor when they pulled out. I think it is a design flaw, and would recommend a top-mount style....See MoreHelp- custom paneled fridge sticks out!
Comments (97)As rococogurl pointed out, design is not something anyone can just pick up and get right the first time. There are so many details, and a lot of math, haha! And, as she said, that is the beauty of these gw home forums! Laypeople like myself can garner a lot of knowledge and advice, both from professionals and from regular people who have learned from their mistakes. At the least, we can see what we don't know and can learn what questions to ask. I'm rebuilding a house, subfloor to roof. It's going to take ten years, unless I win the lottery or have a long lost relative leave me the family fortune, lol! Can I afford a KD (kitchen designer)? Are you kidding me?!?? It has nothing to do with not respecting the profession: I have immense respect for designers and the work they do. It has to do with what I can afford. This forum, and the others here on GW, have been invaluable! I've learned so much from all of you! Today I learned about refrigerator depths, stuff I wouldn't have thought of by myself. Thanks! And I'm glad Brittbelquist got the look she wanted without a huge expense!! YAY! :-)...See Morecabinetry crown will stick out from soffit
Comments (20)Oh boy. My best solution is to have the soffit re-framed to fit the molding. Your kitchen looks like a higher end kitchen and mistakes like this will cheapen and distract from your beautiful cabinets. A last resort would be to bury the cabinets into the wall to gain the inches you need to fit the molding and not touching the soffit. Speak to your builder and installer if this can be done. All depends on what is behind the back wall. good luck and let us know how it works out....See Morecountrygal_905
