best integrated custom panel fridge?
Comments (48)Hi Folks I know it was literally years ago but I just wanted to chime in and say what a great discussion thread this is/was. So many claims are made by sellers and "makers" - for what it's worth, I am going the opposite direction with my project for our own home. I am building new doors that will look like 1930's commercial chiller units, with big hinges and handles as well as adding several personal touches to the whole lot, like refashioned Chrysler wings emblems etc . The two fridges I am using are a liebherr wine/freezer unit and a Jenn Air Alaska model - see attached link and click on AA kitchen project .... might cause some heart palpitations for some, but perhaps a smile for others. BTW In one of my designs I overcame the issues around the toe kick by replacing the floor under the fridge with an insect proof perforated metal grill ... still strong enough to take the fridge and enabled cool air to vent up from the underfloor. Of course, we live in a temperate climate so this may not be an option for N. America. best wishes from Kilmore, Australia Steve Ansell Here is a link that might be useful: Steve Ansell...See Morecd fridge--how much are they supposed to stick out?
Comments (10)The vast majority of CD refrigerators are refrigerators with carcasses/boxes approx 24" deep. The doors must stick out past the adjacent walls/doors/cabinets/counters to open fully. What most of us have done to make a CD refrigerator look more built-in is to surround it by 3/4" finished (plain) end panels with a full-depth (24") cabinet mounted above the refrigerator & b/w the end panels. There's not much you can do about the doors sticking out past the counters if you want to be able to open them fully! Oh, and if your refrigerator is against a wall, be sure the wall is either no deeper than the refrigerator carcass OR you have a 9" to 12" wide cabinet or cab + counter between the refrigerator and wall....See MoreFreaking out about counter-depth fridge sticking out past pantry cabs!
Comments (112)Post a photo of the copy of the approved plan they were supposed to build to. Does it show deeper sides with the adjacent counters butting into them? Enough room for 24.375 plus the 2 inches behind so that the sides of the refrigerator BOX can be installed flush with the front of the cabinetry? Normally a cabinet shop would make this allowance or at least go over the options and differences. But if someone else did the design and it was adhered to, you don't have much to stand on. Also, is the opening the correct height because the hinges not fitting into the opening (like the photo above) can keep it from going back as well? Did you by chance consider another refrigerator that would fit properly? That might be the easiest and most economical way to address the issue. Switch them up and sell the first one. And to the guy that commented about "custom shops" ordering components, this is a common practice throughout the industry. It's very rare to find a cabinet shop that builds every part of a cabinet anymore and as long as what is ordered is of acceptable quality and fits, what's the problem?...See Morefridge sticking out past cabs, push cabs out, or panels around fridge
