I prefer the bowl. The three-light one shouts 'tulips' to me.

The only downside of the pendant is that they tend to be "bug catchers" - ask me how I know. LOL

I think they're both really beautiful. They have a nice softness and the curves are wonderful. I really like the irregularity of the shades, too.

I don't see anything wrong with shouting tulips, myself! :) if that's what you see. I think it might depend on the overall feel it brings to your kitchen. Obviously the chandy is more busy with its composite of pieces, which will draw the eye in longer. The other, I think, will rest more quietly. The thing I wonder about with the chandy, is the shades seem a bit close together and it might seem a bit scrunched?

Do you have a pic of that portion of your kitchen yet?

I am partial to the pendant, but think the chandy is also pretty.

One caution...it looks like the frosted glass is a brighter white, which is good. My neighbor did a pendant over her nook table that had a "creamier" frosted glass and it cut the light so much that it was too dark to read a paper or work at the table at night or on more gloomy days. Her husband even found it uncomfortable to eat there. So she had to switch to a light with down-facing shades.

My vote is for the pendant because of the simplicity. For a visual, here is what mine looks like.

I normally like pendants but I kinda prefer the chandy in this case. I think over a small table the 3 little lights could look really cute and seems to have an airy feel. It would help to see the room though. Both are very pretty.

The booth does not have the cushions yet. there will be cushions on the seat and the back.

That booth area is so cute! That was a very clever idea. Honestly, looking at it either would work. But, now I am leaning more to the Chandy.

It's definitely bright enough. We actually just bought a dimmer switch for it.

I like the chandy with its curves offsetting the angular lines of the booth. The chandy is so... lyrical.

Thank you all for your comments! The cushions will be made with foam and upholstery fabric put on a board and the board attached to the booth. I am thinking of using a real soft green and browns. Still need to look at fabric and bring home some samples. Reds, burgundy, and purple would look good there too. I don't know what paint color I will use for the walls yet.

jerseygirl_- how many bulbs and watt is the light? This pendant is a 3- 100 watt light.

The first thing that struck me is that maybe both of these fixtures are too much for that small space. Do you really need a 3-light fixture over a table for 2 people? A bowl-type pendant with art or colored glass won't show the bugs as much or as fast as a plain white one.

What about using a single pendant that you can dim over that area? There are some pretty ones out there now with art-type colored glass that would add some zip to that area. Here is a white one with just one bulb. This would give you the option of having more light if/when you need it. Maybe something like this one.

It can take 3 100 watt bulbs. We have 3 60 watt bulbs in ours. The 3 100's were definitely too bright.

What a cute booth! I LOVE that idea. I would love to put a booth in for my kitchen nook area.

I like the idea of a chandelier without too many lights or strength. So, if you go with 60 wattage versus 100 wattage, I think that would be best for such a small space.

Boy this is a tough one. Now that Squirrel was kind enough to photo shop, the more contemporary look is the bowl pendant. The Chandy in my eyes is a little more transitional/traditions.

My vote is for the pendant. I can honestly say that after a year, we have had no problems with bugs in ours.

Additionally, we have the cream tortoise globe and the lighting is fine for us, day or night. The higher the light is hung, the more light you will have.

I like both and squirrelheaven you are a doll for posting the pictures above the booth tables (so adorable!) so we could give our best opinion. I think I like the pendant a little more but both look great.

I am still going back and forth. The table is 32" across and 30" out from the wall. The bowl is 18" diameter and the chandy is 20 1/4" diameter. I am wondering if the chandy may be too big?

That's about what I was estimating. I don't think it looks too big. I think what you do on the wall area may also affect which you prefer, since you want something calm and relaxing. To me, the chandy is happy and perky, yet still quiet and graceful. Feels more chatty and conversational in my mind. The pendant reminds me of the water you were wanting to bring in some way. It's very restful.

so you don't think a 20 1/4" is too big for a 32" by 30" table?

Someone else will have to help with that -- I'm just going by how it looks in the virtual, about 2/3 of the table width. I seem to remember standard size light fixtures hanging in small booth tables.

What is bothering me about this is that your lights are shining upward to illuminate the ceiling. Over a table I think you want a light that shines downward so you can see your food. That would also eliminate any concerns with catching bugs or dust.

Thanks for the article. It looks like the light covers most of the table so size should be just fine. I just found another article online that says subtrate 12" from the width of the table for max light size. Minimum is 1/2 the table width. Then another article says the same except to use smallest table dimension.
The other article says 16" - 20" for my table
The other says 15" 18". So I seem to be in the right ball park but it tells me my dining room one is way too small!!
Just guidelines though.

The last one is interesting as it is a down light with the bulb covered. I like that concept. I don't like seeing bulbs on a down light. Where did you find that one on ebay?

The downlights and open bulbs are a problem for me too -- guaranteed migraine!

Thank you for showing me that one. I really do like it. My only issue is the finish. I have stainless appliances, antique pewter and copper knobs, satin nickel faucet, so I am not so sure I should throw in another metal.
But I like the style, the downlight option with the bulb covered, the wattage and the softer shade color.

I have decided on the pendant light instead of the chandy. This was a tough call though as I kept going back and forth. I figure it is one of the easier things to replace down the road if I want to try something else. Now I need to figure out material for the cushions on the booth seat. Will be hitting the fabric store. Then I get to decorate this area with color and stuff on the walls. Anyone want to get creative with this booth area?
