Picture #2. I do love the basket you added in the last two photos, but you need the different shape/texture that the lidded square one provides, and I don't think four baskets can work, unless all on one side or something - asymmetry is good. I think the smallest basket of the four is too small for the space, unless it might work as a fifth.

I would not add the third Pier 1 basket, it's too much of one style. And I don't see a need for fake botanicals, but if you do I would actually go with real dried stuff - grasses, or contorted filbert.

First I would add a wooden ledge on top of the drywall one, stained to match the window treatment. It will create the sense of a more deliberate design element.

Will there be any kind of window treatments? If so, that can impact what is placed there.

Personally, if you add in the wooden ledge as suggested, I would be more inclined to look for ceramic, pottery or metal vases, to bring some color and reflective quality to the area. Pick things that bring in colors from the public spaces, or reflect a collection that you might have in the home, such as blue and white pottery.

However, if it is going to be the baskets, I like the one on the left in the pix, filled with tall bamboo stalks or grasses and curly willow or birch branches. Just be sure that some of the greenery, etc spills down over the edges of the basket rather than everything sticking up. Next to that I would place the square lidded basket.

For the opposite end, I would look for a large rattan or woven platter or plate to stand on a plate stand, kind of angled across the right corner. The small dark basket could sit in front of that to the left a bit.

Personally I love all the baskets and here is a way you can use them all. Just get some dried florals whether from the store or in nature. This time of year it's easy to find lots of dried branches and such one can use. I drew bamboo, pods and pinecones.

The mock up picture that Justgotabme did looks great. I would try and go with that idea and find things to fill the jars as suggested.

Les, I really like your suggestion of the platter on a stand, too. I'd been looking for something like that, as well, but haven't had any luck so far. If I can find something that would be a nice option. I had considered some ceramic urns or something along those lines, but getting a heavy pot nine feet and more up a ladder is a little daunting. The baskets are much lighter. :-)

I hadn't really planned to keep _all_ of the baskets...but the mockup may change my mind. That really does look great. Thanks for putting the effort in, Justgotabme!

Now (after the holiday weekend) I just need to find either a platter and/or some dried botanicals to play with. :-) I'll try to post pictures when I eventually get it put together, but it will probably be a couple of weeks anyway before I have time to gather the other pieces.

I definitely like the idea of the dried botanicals or some greenery in them. I laughed when I saw the basket tipped over. I had an arrangement on my TV cabinet and when I had a designer from a furniture store visit, she immediately reached up and tipped the basket over. I stood there with my mouth hanging open at what a difference that one little gesture made. I chose to mix ceramic with the basket for a little color punch. I think you could get the color, though, by adding items to your baskets. Show us your final arrangement when you get it done. Here's my tipped over basket...lol.

I like the mock up, and Les' platter suggestion. mimi's is nice too (great story, mimi, lol). I like a mix of textures, especially porcelain/pottery mixed with raw and/or aged elements of nature.

I'm happy to hear you all enjoyed my virtual. I love doing them. Used to draw in real life, but this takes so much less time!

Cheri, I'm especially happy to have helped you. I too like Les's ideas, as I always do, but wondered if a natural/wicker type tray or platter might be easier for you to carry up the ladder. If you have a Hobby Lobby near you they always have a wonderful supply of both ceramic platters and wicker. Often at half off too!

I've heard so many good things about Hobby Lobby as a source of inexpensive, nice items for filling in decor, but sadly we don't have any in our state. *sigh* I'll have to keep checking around for options if I go that route. Thanks again!

You might want to check out CraftsEtc.com, I'm pretty sure it's an affiliate of Hobby Lobby. They don't carry everything Hobby Lobby does, but they are a major supplier for them. I used to work at Hobby Lobby part time ages ago.
You might see if you can find woven or wicker like chargers if you think that size will be large enough. I've seen them at many of the department stores for the last few years. Even Wal Mart has them. Just have to check their kitchen aisles.

What color is on your wall? I just moved into my first house and I want to do pale greys and smokey blues. I love the contrast of the cool wall color with the warm browns.

and I love what justgotabme did with the mock up. Try Home Goods for some dried reeds or grasses. I just got a bundle at my local store on clearance for $8.
