Tell me everything you know about BM's Linen White

I have another active thread going on in here at the URL below about my dining room dilemmas but wanted to start this thread to maybe grab attention from those that have not been in there...

After much trial and tribulation (and re-painting what I re-painted LOL) I am considering using BM's Linen White for my trimwork. The first room I am trying this in will be my dining room and the plan is to use Windham Cream on the walls. If this works out, I plan on using the Linen White on all existing trim in my home (baseboard, crown, and doors). Currently we have Super White everywhere and I have been told it is just "too white".

Is Linen White a good creamy off-white? It is a work in progress but my color scheme for the downstairs is sage green/creamy yellow/burgundy accents. (We have a new large sage green microfiber sectional in family room and television cabinet that is exactly the same color as Windham Cream). Planning on using burgundy accents with pillows/artwork/candles, etc. throughout the home.

Is there anything horrible I should know about Linen White as far as weird undertones before I go ahead and do this?

Super White is very white! I tried it this past weekend in my walk-in pantry and love it there though. My mother told me she prefers to this white in smaller places though some love it in larger rooms.

Don't know anything about Linen White. I would love to find a white to use in the office where we have next to no natural light, so I will be following your thread. Good luck!

I have BM Linen White on my trim. I like it very much, have not seen any undertones to it.

The wall colors in my home are in the green or yellow color range, and the Linen White works very well with them.

Boy half a zone difference make you guys so far ahead ~ just as George (ego45) reminded me! BB just flashed her virginal gown yesterday ~ 1 so far! QF opened tons on Pops' Day ~ so thrilled & tho both Orig ES did each a quick one, our gloomy/rainy/storm days interrupted the momentum ~ got everyone in a napsy mood & clusters are still just that! Today sun did show up ~ hopefully shake everyone up! Oh but Blue Frost Serrata even in his *dip 'n dot* stage is already giving hints on the trio of colors ~ blue, lavender, pinks & loaded! T&S1 ~ that came frost bitten, is the most advanced w/ all sorts of new canes & clusters - ready to flash soon ~ in the most ideal site, the hole I prep'd last Fall. I clipped all the blooms she came in to speed up these new ones! T&S2 & T&S3 are doing fine w/ new canes & new cluster finials tho nowhere close to T&S1's #s Luis - to answer our musings on extra sun exposure ~ definitely affects bloom colors IMO based on observations on these 3 T&S planted in 3 diff exposures ~ then again I'm also considering soil diff in their 3 sites! Sorry ~ for long chit-chat! Follow ups later. OK?!

I just put 1 coat of the CC on the outside of my vanity doors (which have the same profile as my kitchen cabs). It again turned out very nice. I put the door in my kitchen and I'm actually liking the color- it's just ever so slightly too yellow. So now I'm wanting to have something in between the BM Linen white and the yellowed CC version of linen white. Hopefully this can be accomplished without too much trial and error. There are numbers on my can of CC- do these indicate the color make-up? I'm wondering if we can use those to determine a similar composition with a little less yellow. Incidentally, here are my doors, I did a combination of brush and foam roller. This is only 1 coat of primer and 1 coat of cabinet coat. At first they don't look all that great- but I just walk away. I come back 45 mins later and they leveled out and the color uniforms nicely. And a picture of the oranged out cabinets I'll be painting.

I like the netsuke, it seems a little brighter than my CPS. If you like the SW colors and just want to compare, CPS is an almost exact match for SW Raimie. It is funny how much I freaked out. I was ready to repaint the cabinets! But once everything was installed and paint went on the walls it was all good. I have to say I really liked the mayo on the trim too. Linen white was a little to heavy, this was a smidge brighter. I think you'll be happy with it on the ceiling. Post some pictures! What are your counter tops?

My 2 cents. I'd skip Navajo white. I think every track home in San Diego (and probably beyond) was painted Navajo white in the 1980's. Every painted surface including doors and ceilings, including mine. I never liked it, but lived with it for years because it was just too much trouble and expense to repaint everything. Maybe that's why it's a big seller. Been kicking myself since because our paint match wood shutters also need to be refinished to match the white trim and doors we have now. To me the Navajo white has a greenish undertone and looks kind of dirty compared to other colors. Nicotine White is what it's disparaging called here. Can't tell you what to have only what you shouldn't and that would be 1980's track home Navajo White! I'm sure linen and a million other colors are better. When we repainted we went with Botony Beige fron Frazee. On the paint chip it looked slightely darker in tone, but on the walls it's not and it has a more neutral to warm base than the Navajo. Ooh thank you Barb!! I also have brand new carpet on your staircase that is a pale "almond" color which really translates to a pinky beige undertone I guess but when I hold the linen white swatch up to it,it does not look bad against that so it seemed as if it would be pretty versatile without clashing too much. Maybe that is wishful thinking though. But it looks good when i also hold it against my sage green couch and my creamy yellow cabinet.

The less public rooms of a 1907 condo I owned had painted woodwork. Modern whites have too much blue in them for a building that age, so I used BM Linen White. It's definitely more of a cream or ivory rather than a stark white. I was very happy with it.

A friend used it on the walls in an addition to her Craftsman bungalow. It read as white, but not bright white, in that setting.

Yogacat, you're making me tempted to try a sample of Linen White. I like the idea of white without being stark.

I used BM Linen White for a few of my ceilings and was planning on also using it for the trim, but in my lighting (or rather, lack thereof) it had just a bit too much yellow in it. We switched the ceilings to SW Creamy and used SW Antique White for the trim to brighten things up a bit.

I love SW Creamy - it's definitely an ivory but reads more white against other colors.

Color is what it is because of that is around it. It is all a relational thing. If you put Linen White against a tan or gold wall, it will probably read white without yellow undertones. If you put Linen White against a blue wall, it will probably read yellow. So, you can't analyze a trim color in isolation.

Two other non-bright whites that are versatile and popular trim colors are White Dove and Acadia White.
