Ceiling Color with BM Linen White

I'm losing my mind with this paint business.

Finally settled on SW Netsuke for our kitchen and family room after an attempt at SW Rice Grain - gone bad. Which I am bummed about - because on ONE wall, it looks STELLAR! It's just the other walls where it appears minty green that I just can't live with.

So I have Linen White shaker cabinets - will paint the trim the same - and now I'm trying to figure out what to paint the ceilings. Husband wanted to go 50% of wall color (orginially the Rice Grain - and i HATED IT!) - i don't know what he is smoking. he is a site supervisor on reno construction, and he tells me this is what people are doing??? not in our 8ft ceiling'ed rooms with crappy natural light.

I really don't have the energy to go testing a bunch of whites (with a 9month old in tow) to compliment the Linen White for the ceiling. (especially when I have a TOWEL PIG to spend my days looking for ;-)

Can anyone offer some suggestions? Should I just go a lighter % of the Linen White? I've read Decorators White is good...BM or SW color - I really dont care.

I asked my friend the same question recently because she is the assistant to an expensive Los Angeles interior designer. She said her boss always mixes 10 percent of the wall color with white for the ceilings. Supposedly it adds interest and "dimension". I'm going to give this idea a try when we finish construction. GL!

My vote is Decorator White. We have used it for our ceiling many times. (Plus my DH even uses it as the wall color in rental apartments)
It is so true how paint can change within the same room. If you are looking for a green, there are many favorites from people here. The old threads will hopefully come up.

Also 8-foot ceiling house on wooded lot with low natural light.

Ceilings are all BM Super White, the brightest cleanest white which goes with everything. I like that because it's the most neutral and won't compete with undertones on the walls.

Our trim is either Farrow & Ball Pointing -white with red undertone -- or Farrow & Ball White Tie -- an ivory. Super white is equally good with both.

Ivory white is not Acadia white. Ivory white #925 is in the Classic colors fandeck and Acadia white #OC38 is in the Preview colors fandeck. They are very close in color. jbrodies' kitchen that was recently posted as finished has cabinets in Acadia White. Here's a pic of ours while being remodeled. We're not quite done yet, but you can get an idea of the Ivory White color. The wall next to the cabinet has been primed so it is white in color and you can see the Ivory white next to it has a bit of yellow creaminess to it. My hutch top is walnut so you can see it next to brown. Also, I have a lot of natural light in my kitchen, during the evening the cabs look even more creamy. I think either color would look great with Tropical Brown.

My cabinets are a good match for BM linen White. I went with Benjamin Moore Crown Point Sand for wall color. It photographs a lot greener than it is. I would describe it as a neutral tan with hints of green and gold. com.apple.mail.drag-T0x101423700.tmp.q55D3D From Positano's Finished Kitchen

I would use whatever trim color you have in your other rooms in your kitchen. I'd do Linen White on everything attached to the cabinetry. I have BM Bone White cabinets, but have kept the previous owner's Duron Shell White trim around the doors and windows in the kitchen and throughout the entire house. I like the continuity. I have Linen White walls in a couple of rooms and in my stairwell & hallways, first and second floors. It's a nice, soft white. Your cabinetry will be beautiful, I am sure! Would love to see a pic when all is done.

Not a Pro. Right now your looking at a blank slate. Start adding your furniture, curtains and art. Change lighting.....to something that gives more light. @Patricia Colwell always gives great advice on lighting for rooms. Live with it for a while, then decide if you want to change the trim.

Well, I did my ceiling the same colour as my trim and cabinets (BM Cloud White). Figured that way, I'd know it would "match"! Although obviously it's a different texture.

And good luck with the Pig :)

My cabinets are a match to BM linen white and we used BM mayonaise for the trim and the ceiling. Looks perfect!

I have Linen White cabinetry and trim and 8 foot ceilings. My walls are BM Dried Basil and my ceiling is 25 percent of the wall color. You could also try 15 or 20 percent if you just want a hint of color. It should still be enough to make your trim stand out without feeling oppressive overhead.

I also want that darn pig now too. :)

Bump.

Hmm...Atrium White looks pretty decent held up to the Netsuke and the Linen White...

I wonder if that would look good.

I had a decorators swatch of the Mayonnaise at one point and now i can't find it. meh.

Positano - I LURVE your kitchen. I have gazed at it - LOTS - in the last few months.

what is your wall color?? how tall are your ceilings?? does the mayonnaise look bright enough?

don't get me started on the pig...

Awww...so happy you like my kitchen! I definitely think the mayo is bright enough. It just blends beautifully, and to be honest I haven't even thought of it. I usually obsess about something if it's not right...so that's a good sign. My Dh started out just using ceiling white and it was so stark, didn't work with the cabinetry at all.

My wall color is Crown Point Sand by BM. A good neutral, sometimes tan, sometimes green, sometimes a hint of gold.

My ceilings are only a little over 8ft.

wow - that color sounds exactly how the netsuke is looking. but only in the kitchen space. in the family room (where there is more natural light) it def. favors more gold.

its beautiful! you did a great job. i know you worried about those cabinets at first install - they turned out great. i LOVE our linen white cabinets.

i think i may just roll the dice - and go for the mayonnaise. thanks for the input!

I like the netsuke, it seems a little brighter than my CPS. If you like the SW colors and just want to compare, CPS is an almost exact match for SW Raimie.

It is funny how much I freaked out. I was ready to repaint the cabinets! But once everything was installed and paint went on the walls it was all good.

I have to say I really liked the mayo on the trim too. Linen white was a little to heavy, this was a smidge brighter. I think you'll be happy with it on the ceiling.

Post some pictures! What are your counter tops?
