Need ideas for basement paint color

I must repaint my basement and am wondering if I can change the color. The carpet unfortunately is green and I think we can get a few more years out of it. Nobody in the family likes our current color scheme. The walls are a pale version of the greenish carpet and the half wall on the side is actually a darker shade of green. My husband wants to paint the walls gray or a dark color to de-emphasize the green. I think the paint color needs to tie in with the floor but haven't found anything that works. The sofa which is a brownish-gray doesn't match particularly well either. Any ideas? It's a fairly large space and there is very little natural light.

look at SW kestrel white. It is a "dark" white that goes with everything.

How about a grey...

SW - Dorian Gray, Mindful Gray or maybe Link Gray which looks more green/gray

I ordered the French Doors through a lumber yard. Had to have them delivered "knocked down" because pre-hung units would not make it down the stairs. Home Centers were unable to have them delivered knocked down. They came primed and we painted them. The glass has been frosted with a 3M window film available from Home Centers. I obtained the theatrical film from a specilty lighting place in, I believe, Skokie IL. I'll try to find the paperwork this week for you. It's been several years so no idea if they are still in business. It was an investment but I can tell you that blue rope lights delivered turquois color and DW was not going for that! Buy the glass block and construct the glass block wall first! VOICE OF EXPERIENCE We did it last and it was a "*itch" getting the last row in place. We purchased sufficient block to define their placement and height in order to size the bar but thought installing them last was the correct sequence - smarter now for your benefit. Installing the block was relatively simple - if you've ever mixed any mortar, have a level, rubber mallot and a straight line you're set. It took us parts of 2 days to built it. Purchased from Menards and they and the manufactures website gave us the need-to-know information. The corner blocks are the expensive part but made the look we wanted. We use the bar often. Not just for entertaining, but for project work space and for food prep of things when lots of counter space is needed. Rule here is we do not carry things to the basement and just set them on the bar! We would truly miss not having a second kitchen. Best of luck with yours. Hi there! I used Arctic Stone in our newly finished basement. It was actually a color I found at Walmart (I think it was a glidden paint chip from there) of all places, while picking up blue painters tape! I took it to SW and they matched it perfectly! I don't have pics at the moment, as we are still moving furniture into the space, but I hope it helps. For me, it was the right amount of color, without looking like a baby nursery.It may be lighter than what you were looking for, based on the colors you mentioned, but I thought I'd put it out there anyhow. I like that space! We recently painted the bar area in the lower level of our house. It's basically a run of cabinets on one wall, with a sink in the middle and no appliances. We went with white, and now I wish we had done something else - the white feels too much like a regular kitchen vs a fun bar area - although it's technically not a bar and we don't use it as a bar. The orange/tan on your walls is looking like a fairly lovely yellow on my monitor but the purple-gray is unmistakable in Edgecomb Gray, Wind's Breath and Pale Oak. Have you thought of a simple white like Simply White? The yellow in it is strong in certain lights. Alternatively, perhaps a mid-tone green, a bit greyer than the one you like in your samples. My advice? Play around with craft colours on cheap canvas before buying more paint samples. BM gets expensive fast. Also, live with the paint strips on your walls for a couple of weeks to see the colours in every light. (Had I done that, I would have saved myself $20 of test samples. :P) Some BM colours you might want to check out (based on my monitor): Gray Wisp, Silver Marlin, Gray Cashmere, Healing Aloe (potential to look minty), Palladian Blue (classic but not very blue at all). I like the idea of a nice grey paint. I am not a fan of green, but if you have to make it work it seems that grey is one good option.

Do you want to "warm" up the room a bit? If so, maybe there is some sort of beige paint that someone could recommend that would tie the sofa and carpets together - definitely a certain type of beige needed or else it could look not so good.

I urge you to use B.M. golden straw. It's light and warm and makes a room ooooh so cozy plus it will look great with both brown and green. I have it in my family room and everyone walks in and mentions how pretty the color looks.

I think your basement is lovely! I am a big fan of SW Accessible Beige. It is a nice gray beige.

Ok, so I'm going to be the "other" opinion. It is a dark basement, and I am assuming this is a space that you hang out with your family? I'd go for a lot more "fun". Greys, beiges and what not are for sophisticated spaces that you want to look "finished". This is your family hang out area. I'd be looking at painting walls different colors to accent their use. Keep one wall the green you have, add a nice blue to another wall, play up that lovely burnt orange, maybe in the back of the bookcase, choose a dark color, maybe plum, for one wall. Make it fun. These calm colors are way too boring for a family room basement. Ok, so, I did say I would be the "other" opinion. :)

We're using a warm gray in our small basement project. It is the same color we used upstairs and at the time we first used this color elsewhere we also had a greenish carpet and it worked well although when we chose the gray we knew we would be replacing the carpet the next year. Here's the color now (pardon the mess, I've been playing with a mood board, so a lot is make believe)

It is a custom mix of 1/2 SW versatile gray lightened with 1/2 SW popular gray. Elsewhere we have used versatile gray on a few walls as accent. The difference is subtle enough that it just plays with depth.

Grant beige or white sand.. Both are Benjamin Moore and should work nicely. Another option is edge comb grey which is actually more beige than grey.
