I have a house, that while you may not call it a truly open floorplan, it does flow that way. Many of the room are visible from other rooms. The upstairs family area is very open.
I have RH's "Butter" throughout all the house, I personally like the cohesiveness with one color. Many people do not.

I had an open plan where I used 14 colors. I don't think I'll be much help to you! You could play it safe, use the gold in the kitchen and then see how you feel down the road, if you want to get adventurous, etc. Is this a new house?

i dont think it matters whether its open or not. i like color tho. i have an open floor plan-kitchen dr,and lr. my living room is like a coffee milk color-(dont have exact names), my kitchen is a light yellow and my dr is a red-all with white trim . i get compliments all the tine

My SIL has an open floor plan and choose to do one color ( BM Bennington Gray)for kitchen/eat in dining and great room.

In our new home the kitchen/dining/great room will be open. I'm plan to do the kitchen in one color (grey/green/blue) and dining/great room in a neutral color. I didn't want a beige/neutral color with my white kitchen cabinets.

I say do what you like!

We have an open floorplan for the kitchen/breakfast nook/FR, and what we did was Porter Paints' Trieste Gold in the foyer and up the stairwell, Delta Green in the kitchen and breakfast nook, then Prairie Sumac (one shade deeper green on the card) in the FR. You can see through to the mudroom and sunroom which are also Trieste Gold. The DR and LR are separate rooms and I wanted them to be more dramatic, so the DR is a very deep blue/grey and the LR is a bronze. I don't think the color needs to be all the same, but it does need to flow well. Have fun with it!

If you're really concerned about getting it right, check out Benjamin Moore's Affinity colors. Supposedly you can pick any 3 colors and they're supposed to work together. Some people have called it "picking paint for dummies". Of course, not all us are born designers, so we need the help LOL!

I have the SW colors on the Restrained Gold strip. Foyer & LR were Ivorie.......LR has recently been updated to Raspberry Truffle...we were craving color after being in the house for 5 yrs. The DR is restrained gold....our master bedroom is mannered gold & FR is Ivorie which I would love to change to a deeper shade down the road. That will have to hired out as the ceilings are 22 in the air in there. Master bath is Ivorie also. I did Eddie Bauer Amber Yellow in the kitchen which I really love & it coordinates well with the other golds & Ivorie in the house. I don't think you have to go all the same or even stay on the same paint strip as long as your rooms complement each other. I have red in the DR in drapes & rug and red in the FR in rug border pillows & chairs. So along as there is a flow established & the rooms complement each other, I think you are safe.
