curtain length for boy's room -pics

It gets really cold in my ds room so I have been shopping for thermal curtains. I think they look too formal for his room at floor length, especially since the thermal curtains tend to look more like drapes than curtains. Do you think thay should fall at the bottom of his window, between bottom of window and floor, or the floor? Here are pics.

Have you thought about honeycomb shades instead of thermals? It would be a cleaner look.

Are honeycomb shades as effective in keeping cold out? Not worried about heat entering, his room gets hardly any sun.

Dissenter here, although my reason is that my windows are more obviously different sizes, on the front it is 63in long to sill but 120ish wide. the other window on the side is 120 wide but 24 inches to sill. ( very old house can you tell) I have valances on both and lace to the sill on both. of course the jabot hits the sill on the short window. I do have an old upright grand in front of the short window now so it does look ok. Long way to go to say I think it depends on how your furniture is arranged and what may interfere with full length. I have radiators in front of the 63 window. I also don't think 10 inches will make that much of a difference and would be easy to disguise with a table or chair in front of the shorter window. oh my room is the dining room if that helps.

If that's far enough away from the base heaters for safeties sake, then I'd consider them somewhat of a tea length dress, or in your sons room maybe clam diggers, and be finished with it. I've had that type of heater before and though it's nice not to have a furnice taking up space somewhere they do leave a lot to be desired, don't they?

I generally prefer floor length, too. Don't forget that since the valance for the Kensington line is not attached to the curtain, you could position your valance rod a bit higher. The valance rod doesn't have to be hung at the same curtain rod height. That would allow more light in and also make your windows look taller than they actually are.

You are still getting comments in your previous post. My view is that the curtains you chose absolutely don't work with your room. As for length, I prefer curtains that just touch/skim above the floor.

Cute room. My vote is to the bottom of the window. Between the window and the floor will look like you couldn't find the right length or ran out of fabric and to the floor would look too formal.

I vote for the curtains coming to the bottom of the window frame. If they end at the sill, cold air seeps under them. It more practical as it sound like your primary concern is keeping cold out.

Ending them at the floor makes it a hassle to vacuum. The room looks like it is for a very young child who would play on the floor and floor length ones are likely to be damaged by tugging on them and they would get dirty faster.

What ever you choose, it probably is not going to be a "forever" decision as I see the room is decorated in a theme and will be changed out as DS gets older.

Love the room! I vote for the bottom of the window casing, also. I've done that (blinds w/ curtains) in both my kids' rooms and it's worked out well, both for maintaining the casual feel and in terms of function. I chose to go w/ blinds vs any type of shades b/c it allows them more light/privacy options. For ex., sometimes we want to partially open the blinds to allow more light in but not fully open them to where someone could see all the way in.

I vote for the bottom of the window frame as well. And be sure it covers all other edges well! We have to do the same thing in our house so DS won't freeze.

I saw the cuttest trim last year...and unfortunately I don't know where, but it was balls, like soccer, football, basketball, baseball, on dangle trim, which would add to your really cute room and soften up the formal look a bit :o)

You've done the room really well. What a fun place for a boy to play!

Have you considered the plastic film that you put up with a hair dryer in order to keep out the cold. Since you have the blinds, it will not be noticeable. That said you would not be able to open the window until the spring when you remove it but they work great for keeping out the cold.

Thanks, I can not take any credit for the paint. It is all my dh, he came up with the idea and painted the walls. What you can't see is the big star on the other wall. Dh is a huge Dallas Cowboy fan. And my son is... because of his dad. Ds said he wanted his room "blue like the Cowboys". And my dh had huge plans of making it a tribute to the Cowboys. I said no way, he can use the colors and put the star up but there will be nothing that says Dallas Cowboys. Then I made it a generic football and baseball theme. So anyway thanks for the compliments.

I will try the curtains to the bottom of window frame. I just needed the reasurance that it looked ok ending there. And I might have dh do the plastic film also. We need all the help we can get.

tergar, it sounds as though you've made up your mind, but I would have the curtains come down to one inch above the floor. They won't be dragging on the floor. I always think that short curtains look a little like men's dress shirts with short sleeves :) They don't look terrible, just a little off.
