roller blinds

I'm really sick of my wood blinds. I hate all the adjustments and cords and tape and mess. I've been considering ripping the blinds out and putting in some roller shades that I can tuck under the window treatments. I'm hesitating because in the back of my mind I think of roller blinds as being cheap. I wonder if I'll be trading one irritation for another. Do roller blinds really"go" with traditional style window treatments. My dream is to have plantion shutters but I don't have an extra $3,000 or more hanging around.

I think roll-up shades can look very classy. They are available in many different fabrics and styles (and price ranges, too.) The fact that they take up little space and virtually disappear under curtains is a real plus to me, and then, they don't need cleaning. If you don't need the variable light that slatted blinds provide, I think they are a great option.

I actually prefer the roll-up shades that have a cord to the ones that are spring loaded. I have had a lot of trouble with the tension on the spring shades.

I would love to have lace roll-ups, but we need excellent light blockage and insulation. I put a link below to some pretty shades at Country curtains.

I have the old fashioned, room darkening (yes, ugly!) roller shades in my bedroom. They are inside mount and then I have pretty relaxed roman shades in front of them, outside mount. The roller shades go up first thing in the morning and disappear. They don't come down till I'm going to sleep so I don't care what they look like in the dark ;-) but even so, I can lower my pretty shades and hide them which I usually do in the winter just for the added insulation.

They're very functional but they sure aren't a decor statement! Oh, wait, yes they are, but not one I leave out in the open! And mine operate just fine, no problems at all and they're really old.

The only reason I'm on the fence about honeycomb shades is that they don't sit flat and I get the feeling they flop around when the doors are open... But you liked them, graywings, huh? I'll think about it. Anyone else? Thanks, Amysrq; the Shade Store looks great!

I got very cool linen look roller blinds from Smith and Noble for the bathroom...Looks more modern than blinds with my drapes and that's why I like them...BUT, I miss the ability to see out the window when I want privacy....with the wood blinds, you can tilt them but still have light...

I had those roller shades with the cords from Country Curtains. They were just as crappy as the spring tension cheapos you get at Walmart. We never could get them to roll up straight.

I bought some nice special order roller blinds from a blind shop and those were nice. They were approx. $100 per window but they were the kind that opened from the top so we could drop them down halfway and still see out--they had a pully system. Very good quality fabric material and worked well.

I got mine at the Shade Shop but any shop specializing in shades/window coverings would be better quality than the stuff you find in regular stores.
