With the walls being wood I would maybe want something lighter on the windows. I would be inclined to go with a cream window treatment and then use cream and red pillows for the couch.

Or, I would use lighter green window treatments and use green and red pillows.

I do like the red in the room but because the walls are darker I would use that as an accessory color and not as a window color.

The floral or printed drapes that are up there now seem to go well with the sofa. Could you close them and take a photo so that we can see them better?

If you want to have blue drapes, then you will need to figure additional ways to bring blue into the room. An area rug with blue and red in it might do that.

octoberdana, I was thinking of a light green for drapes and then reds and cream for accents...not too Christmasy? I agree that red should serve as an accent. I saw Pottery Barn is having a sale on velvet drapes. I'd love to get some to really make the room cozy. Th problem is they don't cover the entire window and I bought them years ago at Lines and Things. I have 4 panels so they would go nicely on one bay window. The lr has only one and I think they will look nice in there. I guess I don't really want blue not that I think of it.

You have so many solid colors in the room, it would be so great to find drapes in a print that picked up the various colors plus a color you would like to add.

See what JCPenney has to offer in drapes. They have great pricing and lots of sizes. Also, check WalMart - their Canopy stuff is pretty nice.

I agree that a pattern -- maybe like plaid below - would tie in the various colors better.

I think a plaid would be great, but I would find one it a cotton fabric that is not shiny.

I found curtains i liked at lowe's. I wasn't looking for them - was surprised to even find them there. i was just walking down an aisle and saw them. I snapped a few pics of them (??) so that if i decided i needed curtains for a room i'd have the pics to refer to.
so don't exclude places like that!

I love wood paneling in many cases but it does give off a definite vibe of casual and homey and it might be smart to follow that lead. It appears you're attracted to pretty formal fabrics and patterns such as the silks, velvets and damasks....but that probably isn't going to work well with the paneling since it is a very casual look and it puts out a lot of shine all by itself! I think a cotton/linen-like nubby or woven fabric in a white/cream/tan plaid or check would really play off the paneling well and give a nice warm and cozy look to the space. It would be neutral enough (but not boring) to then do whatever you'd like with pillows "etc".

Here's one I spotted at JCP...the beige/white would be classy and in keeping with the room's mood. And checks/plaids are here to stay! Featured in a lot of designer rooms nowadays. Just stay with the linen/cottons I'd say.

Oh, another reason I mention the cream/white/tan colors is that they would also help integrate the new white windows with the paneling...they'd help de-emphasize the contrast. You could have 3 panels there with one centered where the 2 windows meet.

Again...lol. If you choose red as an accent color, I'd look for reds that have a warm orange base vs a blue/burgundy base...for pillows or rug. The paneling is the former so you wouldn't want to clash with that. A nubby creamy color pillow or two would also carry the colors of those drapes I posted into the seating area and also provide a nice contrast against the dark fabric.

Jant, we are not formal people so a cotton plaid would be great. I think the velvet drapes at PB were what made you think we had a rich taste in fabrics. You're the second person to point me in the direction of JCP so I will definitely go check them out now! And thanks for pointing out the white windows and being careful to incorporate them in.

The plaid above, for sure! And you can either buy or make some throw pillows in red and gold to match the curtains.

Don't worry if your house looks like "Christmas" all year long, my previous living room had those colors fulltime, and it's what made people feel so comfortable in it. I find those colors to be cheery and calming at the same time.

Along the lines of palimsest's casement fabric, I was thinking of an airy linen when I saw your room.

I don't care for regular sheers and I needed 8 panels to go under some silk curtains in our master bedroom. Cost was an issue so I couldn't go with the linen I wanted.

We ordered these casement panels from Smartbargains. Turned out I had to send them back because they had no shirring top, and as a result, hung too low on the floor. The double rods we have are set at different heights (hard to explain).

Nothing wrong with them, other than that, and the price was great.

I like the plaids that gwbr and tomorrow posted. I think they would look wonderful in your room-I think the one with the rose in it would give you that pop you want. My personal preference would keep me away from gingham which is, to me, dated unlike the plaid.

Yes, I think plaid may be the way to go, although it does seem a bit too country for my taste. I'm sure I can find something in the plaid family that will please me!
