Take a look at the famous "Sally Wheat" inspired kitchen here at Cote De Texas. There are several links within this blog with different kitchens inspired by Sally Wheat's beautiful original. She used BM Fieldstone on the cabinets.

I think Mayonnaise is pretty white, and I'd rather see a distinct color difference from the white of the sink...but any soft white would be nice, too, which Mayo is. I'd prefer to stay away from bright white, as I think it might be cold with your stainless, but that's my opinion. We used BM Lancaster White/Lancaster Whitewash on our island and even though it looks like one of the deeper creams on the sample strips, I think it's a nice cream. Mamadadapaige's trim is painted that color and she said the cabinets match it.

I don't have any specific color names but I like the idea of a blue on the bottom with a cream on top. I came across a post here on the forum with something similar.

Ha, your kitchen sounds like it will be a lot like ours! :) Ours will (I think, assuming we can agree on actual shades...) be green walls, white trim (BM Acadia White, pretty white-white), gray lower cabinets on one side where they will provide some contrast for our white d/w, range, and sink, and more BM Acadia White for the uppers and lowers on the other wall, where we are using a different style cabinet and wood counter. We're (hopefully...) using a pretty neutral pale gray and a bright light green to keep it light, though. I'm not sure I'd mix cream and white---maybe a little too close---but you could definitely mix a blue or gray in there, if it worked with the green.

It sounds like it will be beautiful whichever shade you choose, though!

is it possible to buy yourself some time to test out your colors before they start painting? sounds like a lot to decide in such short order. i would consider sanity checking does this HAVE to start so soon with the contractor. Ask him what are your options to defer this work so you can select a few test colors, put them on test cards and view in varying light during the day and evening. You are committing to a color you are going to be living with for a while, you want to get this right.

(Oh, and whatever color you choose, I absolutely recommend getting a sample and painting a large cardboard piece that color to see how it would read...our current uppers and kitchen walls are painted BM Pearl Harbor, and I think the realtor who chose it thought it would be a cream---it's not; it's definitively peachy. And the "rust" he chose for the lowers is bright pink....I thought he was nuts till I found the cans in the basement and saw the swatch he presumably looked at when he picked the color out. Based on that, you'd never guess how pink it would look in the end!)

I used mayo on my trim and ceiling, but my cabinets are linen white which is very creamy. If I had to do it over I would have picked a color a little whiter. Its hard to get that balance of creamy and white! I would definitely suggest painting boards and leaving them up through out the day to see how the light changes. I wouldn't go too creamy since you have the marble.

I love to see painted cabs in period kitchens. Chipping away at the layers of paint, I found that my kithcen had been: drab blue (and I use the word "drab" lovingly. I was also going to suggest, as someone did above, the blue in kimmieb's kitchen), drab yellowish-brown, drab green, and drab pink.

So, those are the 4 color families (The Drabs) that I myself love in vintage kitchens.

I decided to go for drab yellow, and while I love my tiny yellow kitchen, the color ended up being a little too cheery. Remember: I wanted drab. I used BM Barley (with the lightest yellow on that card on the walls), and I wish I would have gone darker because Barley would have been perfect on my walls.

Same colors are in the breakfast room. Depending on the lighting it changes from cheery yellow (boo!) to drab beigey-yellow (yay!)
