What region (state) are you in?

Colors vary region to region. Kinda surprising to some that the same roof colors aren't available coast to coast. CertainTeed in particular has 8 different regions and color palettes.

Midatlantic. The colors I listed are all available here.

Based on these colors, I'd say that the last three would work best. My problem right now is that the pictures of supposedly the same shingle look quite different online from the tiny samples I have and that my sample is just a tiny swatch of one tile while one "set" consists of a variation of shingles. Driftwood, for instance, looks pretty much grey.

Neighbors supposedly have Nickel Grey, which looks fine, but it's a solid color.

I like the nickel grey. It's darker than your house and has the same crisp feel your house seems to have. Some of the others look too similar in value to the siding, imo. I think sometimes those multi colored shingles can get busy looking. If the nickel grey is too plain, can you find one in the architectural style for some texture?

Hm, hadn't thought of busyness, The only greys in the architectural style are the ones I listed. Maybe Pewter? Or I go with the Nickel Grey. It would be cheaper.

We got actual shingles from our lumber yard and put them up against the house in multiple locations and lighting conditions to finally decide. The colors look so much different than in real life.

From your pictures, I think the Colonial Slate would look great.

Maybe those images are photoshopped and not real houses. A lot of companies do that to show their products. They might be much less busy in real life. Their gallery shows some odd combinations too, imo, and the roofing looks very bright and uniformly detailed. Can't say as I remember seeing so much pattern and color variation on roofing when driving around.

Zeitgast - is that vinyl shake siding on your house? Do you know the manufacturer and color? It looks great.

I'd go with a true gray either Pewter or the Nickel Gray.

We had Weathered wood on our last house and I liked it very much, but not on a gray/blue house. It's more to the brown/tan color.

The Georgetown gray looks like it would take a blue tone, and that might compete with the house color. The Colonial might be ok, but why risk it? It's something you will live with for the next 10-15 yrs.

You can get creative with door color or shutter colors.

Gail no they are Maibec white cedar prestained in a weathering oi (bleach and grey stain mix). Had considered Nichiha fiber cement custom staining at Carolina Coloring at one point but read cedar apparently weathers better in costal NE.

CertainTeed will have a list of all local installations that used those colors. Your roofer should be able to get you the list, so that you can drive around and see the different colors in person. I would not rely on internet photos!

Yes, I just figured that I'll call CertainTeed and ask for actual houses in my area that have the shingles I'm considering. Until now, I've never noticed the variety of the roofs. Many of the new houses have these variegated roof shingles.

I like the pewter shingles for your house. Agree that those highly variegated shingle roofs look very busy. You want a roof that will complement your house, not make a completely separate and massive design statement. A little understatement in a roof is a desirable quality.

I don't know if you are set on Certainteed, but if you are open I would suggest Tamko. I'm in Va, and I recently put on a roof and considered GAF, Certainteed, Owens Corning, and Tamko. For me, Tamko was the best choice for architectural shingles and we've been happy thus far.

I'm not set on CertainTeed. It's just that everybody I've been talking to and getting estimates from seems to use them.

What color did you decide on and can you share pics? I want to paint our new house a similar color to yours and we are on The west coast so some different colors but I'm trying to decideaong a few including weathered wood and Georgetown gray.
