Need help picking new shingles
Comments (4)Our roof blew away in a storm and was replaced a few weeks ago. I was not sure what color I wanted to replace it. My contractor had a list of addresses of houses his company worked on and each of the houses was identified by roof color. I drove around with my maps and this list so I could see how the roofs looked in real life. The way the roofs look on a tiny sample is totally different than how they look up on the house. I would not pick a roof from a tiny sample. In the end, the color I thought was too dark was a charcoal black. It looked terrible on the sample but looked good on people's houses and it looks great on mine. Also, if you can't do that maybe you can drive around your town and find houses like yours then make note of their roofs and find a color that comes close. I have a brick house with the same kinds of colors as yours. We have dark green shutters and a dark green front door and white trim. The black looks perfect. Also, people on here can be more help if you post a picture of your whole house. Then they can see the style, the trim colors, etc. It might help. Good luck! It is a big decision and expensive so you want to get it right....See MoreHelp, I selected the wrong shingle color

Comments (6)I must apply joint compound to two rooms and hate to start the job so I am reading the forums. Roof colors are not available in all 48 states but based on the plant location. Since I live in the North East I had to choose what was available in my zip code. My NJ home was a pink brick with black shudders and white soffits and trim. The sides had grey clapboard. A light grey architectural tile would have worked but instead I did a green with dark grey and pink in the tile. I moved recently and had to paint the outside . The exterior color was a dark tan with a brown architectural roof asphalt tile. The tile had hints of a cream/ yellow so I painted the house a muted yellow brown . It was a cabot color that looked tan but dried as a pale yellow.I Love it!! The roof and home color match. Choose what you like or what you think will work and then ask the dealer for home addresses who installed this tile. Visit the home and see what color the base of the home was why it worked or why it didn't. I also had the roofer lay three sheets of the tile on the home so I saw a better idea of the color. My choices were a three shades of grey or the grey green pink tile. The grey green/pink tile was the winner. Green does work well with brick but not as a single color....See MoreHelp Choosing Roof Shingle Color
Comments (37)fun colors, The heather blend is the last one on the right next to the cream/yellow (more cream) siding. Holding it up to the house and the siding the brown did not seem to be right. Out of frustration, I picked up a timberline dark brown at home depot and that brown did not seem to work either. Read on the net, don't have the link, that roof color will appear 1 shade lighter and/or appear 1 shade lighter shortly after installation. So . . . if the moire black would fade a little, would be a plus to me. It's either the A/C bills or the algae. Figured I might have to change to green or other shade of red for door with roof change. Pretty sure neighbors will not be anticipating that so more explaining may be in order. There is some work involved, not all fairyland magic. Anyway, the main reason for the red door was when you have the exposed door with no overhang the black door gets hot as HE_L and bakes like it's in an oven. It was originally black which looked good for color, but the color was melting. The roof extension will probably allow for more color selection. The red is popular here. Everyone comments on how they love the red door and many in the neighborhood immediately painted their door red too. Must admit it stands out a little too much with no landscaping. After the roof, the next outdoor project will be bringing in additional soil and replacing the walkway. It has cracks, sadly, concrete does that. We love the color brown, but in sample form those browns did not look promising. Keep in mind, trim and gutters will stay white, so let me know if some roof color selections will look bad given that consideration....See Moresuenama
