L shaped room, do window treatments have to match?(pic)

Or can they just complement each other?

French doors lead to the pool/patio area, on the west wall. I have raw silk looking panels, like a light sage green, with just a little bit of brown detailing that zig zags through them.

I need a WT for the window on the north wall. Can I just do a brown? But then...what about the material...does it have to be that raw silk look also, or can it be totally different in texture?

Right now, there are just cheap white blinds from the previous owner. They serve their purpose and are pretty unobtrusive,but I don't like how they block the top of the window when opened.

I would like the window to just have one panel, that goes only to one side...the right side (away from the piece of furniture there). I am thinking floor length, just like the french door panels. There is an ottoman pushed against the wall under the window in this picture, but that is not always there.

This is the family room, a very casual room.

P.S. just an aside...the panels on the FD are VERY cheap. I found better quality, but the same pattern (which I love), at Bed Bath and Beyond. I found them at 95" (the ones that I own are 84"). I am thinking of moving the curtain rod up to the very top of the wall and using the 95" panels...I think it will look more dramatic and heighten my 8' ceilings. Of course I would do the same with whatever panel I choose for the window. Opinions?

I would either do the same as the french door or another white blind perhaps with an outside mount so the window is fully exposed. Or a shutter that could be full opened. I think they are too close to be dramatically different.

I think I'd match them since they are in the same room. JMO!

With how nice your home looks and what appears to be a good amount of window frame depth I would, if I were you, install interior window shutters. I'm a huge fan of plantation style, but traditional shutters would look amazing as well if you prefer smaller louvers. If you prefer stock size panels you may want to check into www.shutterland.com. They have great shutters, both Traditional and Plantation. Also, they come unfinished, so that really keeps the price down. I prefer option 1 with your dish storage in the island as shown on your plan. I think my only question would be where you plan to store your glasses? We have a similar situation. We have one wall that is 22'. We have gone about the changes in probably the worst way possible...we replaced the windows without having a firm plan in place. In fact, the plan is morphing still. We ended up though with 1 6" window and 1 5" window. BUT - when the discussion of windows was on the table, quite a few people suggested taking them down in size -- or even eliminating one. The main proponants of that were a cab guy, another guy I know who has done kitchens and DH. I do think their approach is the more cabs the better -- but the look felt like a cave! I ended up doing exactly as eks6426 suggested -- I did what I love and kept 2 big windows. I'm still working on a plan but I know I can make it work with the windows we installed. I think her advice was good - "Do what you love. You are the one who is going to live with the kitchen..not your KD or contractor."

Congratulations on your first home!!!!! If your priority is privacy and insulating, I would recommend a light filtering , top/down bottom up cellular shade for all windows except the kitchen sink one. Cellular shades can come in large sizes and they have the least amount of stack when they are completely opened. For the kitchen window, I would recommend something pretty, but easy to clean since in is right above the sink( things splatter up when cleaning pots and pans). You could do a faux wood, screen shade, or a woven wood on this window. At a later date, you could add drapes or window coverings to bring in pattern color, or simply softness. I would follow the suggestions from freedom place 1. Good luck!

Great, thanks! I would use a round table that can extend to oval when you have company in the dining area, right over near the kitchen. One chair backing into the corner, rather than a chair with its back to the kitchen door. The desk can stay right where you have it in this photo. Sofa on the wall with the windows with a side table at each end. Two chairs across from it with a table between them. I sketched a pic but can't post comments on my phone, boo :(

I'd go with a solid color from your drapes in any style you want. Since one is a window and one is a door, you have some leeway in not matching, but you do want them to look nice near each other.

If the new curtains from BBB are really the same fabric/pattern, why not get the new curtains for the patio doors, and have someone (or DIY) make a curtain for the other window using the fabric from the old curtains? You could make a valance, and hang it at the same (new/higher) height as the other curtain, which will make your window appear larger. Then if you need privacy, you could keep the blinds you already have, or get a woven wood blind.

I think I will go with the outside mount blinds idea. Do outside mount blinds look sloppy to you? For some reason, I keep having that worry, that they will look sloppy.

The more I think about matching the curtains on the FD to the window curtain, I just don't like it...too match matchy for me. Yet putting something different there (curtain) doesn't seem right, either.

We only close that blind on the window at night, for privacy.

any affordable place for woven woods?

IKEA has reasonable window treatments. You can look online prior to going.
