Corner wall cabinet options

Somewhere in the kitchen forum I read that there are much better options for corner wall cabinets than for base cabinets but all the posts I have found have discussed options for corner base cabinets.

I have an angled wall cabinet with shelves now and that seems to work alright. I use it for large platters, china and things I don't use much. Am I missing out on something?

Also, does anyone know of a source for a plastic Super Susan for a corner base cabinet? I read that they were easier to clean than wood but all I have found are wood.

As it turns out, that is a theme that I have explored at length. I have a kitchen that is much too small and has, as a sort of ultimate poke in the eye, a blind corner, so I am much interested in what can be done to alleviate that particular problem. As a cabinetmaker, I can, and will, make pretty much whatever I want when we remodel our kitchen, but even though I can get these things much cheaper than the general public, if it doesn't make sense, I'm still not going to do it, no matter how slick it may look. And, frankly, that is the problem with the many "solutions" to blind corners. When you run the math on them, none of them really pencil out to much more storage space, and most of them actually provide less storage space. So, I do not recommend them.

That is, however, only for base cabinets. As you pointed out in your question, there are a number of solutions for the blind corner in wall cabinets that make all kinds of sense. You have a wonderful lot of storage. I also don't find your cabinets objectionable. I think the builder grade oak cabinets are the ones that have given oak such a bad name. There are some very nice, different style oak cabinets like yours that are quite lovely. I agree with the lighting. I would say holes in the drywall would be better than such a terribly dated, dirty looking (nothing personal, I think all those of that style look dirty) box light. It just cannot be your style! I have a hard time speaking to color online, given different monitor resolutions. Green to gray would probably be lovely with your countertop, but gray to me wouldn't compliment what I'm seeing color-wise of your cabs. Green? As long as it didn't have a yellow base. You've got lots of potential there! :)

I think front is asking about uppers. I have 2 easy-reach uppers in my kitchen, and I love them - tons better than the diagonal uppers I used to have. I wanted to get to the corner space. My Mom had a blind corner in her kitchen, and made good use of it. Her house was built long before someone came up with the easy-reach idea. She was able to reach part-way into the blind part, and put things in the back she rarely used. I think the decider would be how big the adjacent cabinet is, and what you plan to put there. I can't remember your dimensions exactly, but if you can eliminate a 12" upper cabinet with either option, you will come out ahead.

We use our super susan for small appliances, which works great. My other corner is closed off completely, with drawers on both sides. I thought long and hard about that decision, and hated the idea of "wasting" space, but ultimately it is effective use of space that matters most. The drawers on each side of my corner get used every day; I developed plenty of space in pther parts of the kitchen for things that are not used as often. The best way to maximize storage space in YOUR kitchen is to map out what you have, and how much space your things need. Drawers are the most efficient use of base cabinets. The space above the fridge is valuable too - that cabinet should be as deep as the fridge. Lots of people put vertical dividers there, for cookie sheets, trays, cake pans. I had my cabinet maker install pull-outs above the fridge, which is perfect for lightweight, bulky items. Oh, and build your cabinets all the way to the ceiling, with extra shelves in the uppers. That was noe of my biggest space gains.

Here is a pic of my upper corner cab. DH still needs to adjust the center of the door. It has a piano hinge in the center. Since it opens to empty space I do not worry about it hitting a cab next to it.
