Square corner wall cabinets vs blind corners

What are your thoughts on square wall corners? The ones with the hinge in the middle? It is 24x24. The other option is a blind corner. It will increase the size of the adjacent cabinets, but there will be the blind area which will not get much use.

We opted to do a blind corner, in order to preserve the adj runs of cabinetry as drawer space along one leg or run, and as a tray cabinet on the other, right next to the range. We located the gas shut-off valve (required in our municipality) in the blind corner (accessible via a pull-out panel in the wall of the tray cabinet). This freed up all of drawer and cabinet space on either side of the range.

I think front is asking about uppers.

I have 2 easy-reach uppers in my kitchen, and I love them - tons better than the diagonal uppers I used to have. I wanted to get to the corner space.

My Mom had a blind corner in her kitchen, and made good use of it. Her house was built long before someone came up with the easy-reach idea. She was able to reach part-way into the blind part, and put things in the back she rarely used.

I think the decider would be how big the adjacent cabinet is, and what you plan to put there. I can't remember your dimensions exactly, but if you can eliminate a 12" upper cabinet with either option, you will come out ahead.

I decided to do a blind upper corner because it gave me full double-door cabinets on either side of the corner, which I found more useful than a hinged cabinet with a deep corner. I also didn't want large doors that opened so close to my face. Had that in my old kitchen. I have a 24" cabinet on the stove side and a 28" on the fridge side. The blind cabinet next to the 24" cab has a 12" door, and yes, it's tight. I keep paper towels and napkins in there--large items that I can just grab a corner of--or multiples of items like canned cat food. I sacrificed the bottom corner so I could do two drawer stacks on each side of the corner. Some people will say it's crazy to give up precious storage in a small kitchen, but I found that with cabs up to the ceiling, a pull-out pantry, and a deep refrigerator cabinet, I have some empty shelves in my wall cabinets.

I know this thread is old, but here goes. Having a granite L-Shaped wall bar top being contracted in Steel Gray granite. No outside corners to worry about. Template guy was the owner and never even brought up any of these questions, not to mention where the seam would be? When I did ask about the seam, after he was gone, told that it needs to be 90’ just left of the corner, where the 2 cabinet bases come together. Just thinking a 1” radius on that inside corner wouldn’t be bad. Brand new basement finish. Excited but a little concerned about the granite.

suzi-yes that's right they are rectangle. And I am aware that I'd have lost a triangle (that would be my wasted space that I didn't need for anything) - and the circle in the rectangle does have some wasted space on the 'corners' anyhow. I thought it out and was prepared to do that. I just offered up what I have and what I contemplated as an option in case it was helpful for the OP. I would have been more than happy to do so and it would have housed the stuff that I have in my kitchen just fine, wouldn't have missed it a bit and susans are pricey. Some people love them, some people like them and some people just don't have them. You don't have to have a susan as a solution. Space calculations have been done showing that it's not really the loss of space that it can appear to be. I am okay with not preferring them even though many or even most enjoy them and find them useful. closing-off-a-blind-corner calculations beth09-I know it! I actually have a drawer stack that's somewhat empty - hahaha. It is a shock to the system. You will find what works for you. I will say the super susan (no pole) pie shaped does seem much sturdier than my old regular susan with pole.

Lisa - two KD people that I have spoken to said that the voided corner does not provide wider drawers on either side. What am I missing? Nothing as far as I can tell because what they are telling you makes no sense to me at all. If you don't give up 12" of linear space to a Susan, you gain 9" of drawer width (3" goes to spacer at corner). I considered adding a BCC to my sink corner (didn't have space on sink side to do corner Susan) but opted not to because a) it wasn't the right kind of storage for that corner and b) a drawer base was cheaper storage than a BCC. Here's my corner. Drawers & trash pull-outs open. If I had done a BCC, I would have lost the bank of drawers on the right. If I'd had room for a corner Susan, I would have lost 27" of much needed drawer storage. The few items that I would have been able to store in a BCC (ditto for a corner Susan) ended up in a a single drawer in a much roomier cab next to my wall oven. I use the items in the drawers in my prep zone much more regularly than the items I use in the drawer by my oven. A few extra steps now and then is a much better option than extra steps several times a day, IMO. Look at the whole picture when it comes to storage. What you decide for one area affects storage in another. It's a domino effect, IME.

I love my square corner wall much more than the blind corner I used to have. I am able to make better use of space. It did dictate some of my layout based on spacing but I do not regret it.

With a blind corner, I got a 28" double-door cabinet instead of a 16" cabinet. I just want to open a door or pull out a drawer and not fiddle with two-piece hinged doors and roll-out shelves and Susans. It's only a 12" deep blind cabinet, not a black hole where things are never seen again. I stuff it with paper towel rolls and other odd tall things, like a box of cereal or tall bottles. The shelves in my other wall cabinets are spaced closer, so it gives me one cab for those items.
