Lazy susan, blind corners, or what?
Comments (40)Just to chime in...we had a 36" x 36" lazy susan in our old kitchen...the kind w/the pie-cutout (squared corner rather than diagonal front) + center pole. It held a lot! I don't know the diameter, but it was so close to the walls of the cabinet that about all that would fall would be a toothpick. (I thought I had something fall, but there was nothing there when they demolished...) With the exception of my 9"x13" pans, all my pots, pans, pizza pans, colanders, etc. fit in it. I had planned to have another one for an appliance garage this time around, but the two corners ended up being (1) a corner prep sink and (2) a 27" cabinet turned around as a pet center. My DH requested the pet center idea. If I did not have a separate, step-in pantry, I would have nixed that idea (I had veto power). But I can store my small appliances in the pantry...although they will take away food storage space. I have seen the blind corner units (in showrooms) and they looked like they wasted space and that it would be easy for things to fall off the shelves. My KD mentioned that some of her clients complained about having to crawl into the space to get fallen items quite frequently...so she discourages people from using them...from what I saw, I have to concur with her. BUT...to each his own! HTH!...See MoreDo you have Hafele blind corner pull outs?
Comments (9)List for Magic Corner 2 mechanism is 1530 to 1530, stores 1080 sq ins- don't put a drawer above it, not the best thing for feild install. A better choice is the Hafele Lemans units- list $870- stores either 884" or 1057 (the one that takes the same wall space as the MC 2- do NOT get the smallest one unless you have no choice) Easier to use with aging back, more flexible storage, can still have a drawer, can be feild installed easily. You have to watch the direction that they swing out if near a range. There is a limiter that can keep it from hitting a range if it must be placed there. An alternative are the Rev-A-Shelf half moon pullouts- Plastic ones list at $272, Wood 441. Again don't get the smallest, storage is less than Lemans but they pull out in a different direction. Lemans is my first choice for blinds BUT final determination is made based on door opening and direction of swing/clearanc, and storage requirements. I disagree that a super susan is the most efficient- depends on the layout. When doing a susan, if I'm doing either frameless or inset I always use a Suzi Q- which has a slightly higher sq in than typical pie cut super susan but is easier to use.(Suzi Q is NOT field install ever)...See Morelazy susan for 36' corner base cabinet
Comments (5)I think it depend on how you plan to use that corner. I couldn,t wait to get my super susan in and now that I have it I don,t use it. I put in a large pantry at the same time and that took away my need for it. For me the space would work better with the double hinged door thats on it know versus the old cabinet door that was on oneside only and made access extemely hard. With the double hinged door I have easy access all the way to the back and it would be a great place to put large seldom used things like my pasta machine and canning stuff. If I wasn,t selling the house I would have already pulled out the super suzan in favor of a open large storage space....See MorePlease help Lazy Susan corner cabinet or Blind Corner Cabinet
Comments (69)Lisa - two KD people that I have spoken to said that the voided corner does not provide wider drawers on either side. What am I missing? Nothing as far as I can tell because what they are telling you makes no sense to me at all. If you don't give up 12" of linear space to a Susan, you gain 9" of drawer width (3" goes to spacer at corner). I considered adding a BCC to my sink corner (didn't have space on sink side to do corner Susan) but opted not to because a) it wasn't the right kind of storage for that corner and b) a drawer base was cheaper storage than a BCC. Here's my corner. Drawers & trash pull-outs open. If I had done a BCC, I would have lost the bank of drawers on the right. If I'd had room for a corner Susan, I would have lost 27" of much needed drawer storage. The few items that I would have been able to store in a BCC (ditto for a corner Susan) ended up in a a single drawer in a much roomier cab next to my wall oven. I use the items in the drawers in my prep zone much more regularly than the items I use in the drawer by my oven. A few extra steps now and then is a much better option than extra steps several times a day, IMO. Look at the whole picture when it comes to storage. What you decide for one area affects storage in another. It's a domino effect, IME....See MoreRelated Professionals
