Suggestions please - Modifying kitchen in new house

We bought a new house that has a recently remodeled kitchen. (new to us, not built new) Although not set up as to my taste it has a pretty good layout and is only a couple years old. Here are my questions:

There is a ceiling to floor pantry set up (it is one on top of the other not one continuous tall pantry. They are 24 inches deep and the prev. owner put 12 inch adjustable shelves in them - any suggestions for better use of this space? Rev a shelf baskets?

I know they bought at Home Depo in 2005 - previous owners didn't know the brand of the cabinets. I've checked the cabinets and don't see one inside. Do you think I could go to Home Depo and see if they still have it on record - I'm thinking of adding on another cabinet and want it to match.

Lastly, there is a range and above that is a shelf (removable) and then a cabinet over that. The shelf has a film of grease on it so I don't want to use it for anything but I was thinking of removing the shelf and putting in a vent or micro/vent. One thing is that it is on the exterior wall BUT we will be adding a mud room and garage on that side of the house so I cannot vent to the outside b/c I'd have to move it with the renovation. Also to consider I don't love the range b/c the larger of the double ovens is way low to the ground. (bad back) Any suggestions on that area with regard to a new range/microwave? I would have put in double ovens and a rangetop if I remodeled but since they didn't and the remodel isn't that old I'm looking for suggestions on modifying what I currently have.

Just an idea: Our cabinets are marked with the company's name on the outside of the side panel of the drawers (so it's only visible when you pull the drawer out).

The realtor and myself checked all over these cabinets when we were at the inspection and found no identifying marks/names. I did check the sides of the drawers and even pulled one out to check the back. Nothing. We resorted to asking the owners but no such luck. Thanks for reading though!

Have you looked into Miele? Sounds like they make units that would fit your requirements -- , quiet, size of side by side/dual compressors you want. I'm also at early stage thinking so no experience with them for fridge/freezer. But I did just see their separate units used side by side with some kind of joining kit, in a showroom. Was impressed with the interior of the Miele, very drawn to it. Don't know their track record for this appliance, though I am inclined to trust them after owning other Miele appliances and given them HEAVY use for 12 years here, have been very very pleased. In terms of fridge-- I've had a smaller Liebherr unit for 12 years now and while I really like some things about it, there are other drawbacks that put me well off buying another, though they may have improved these since I'm not taking a flyer on that (quality of seals, situation with the drain in the interior, frost build in freezer). https://www.miele.ca/en/Product/Refrigeration

Some crops that will grow in less than 8 hours sun are leafy and salad greens, root crops like radishes and onions, and most herbs. Peas and beans also, but will produce a smaller crop than in full sun. Consider planting the cherry tomatoes in a hanging basket so you can move it to a sunnier location if it is not doing well in the partial sun. Another crop you might consider is garlic; each clove will produce a whole new bulb. It is best planted in fall (September or October, though I've planted as late as early December with success), and will be harvested in May or June, depending on variety and your weather. It will send up some shoots that persist through winter - love seeing those! - then really take off in early spring.

UPDATES AS OF JANUARY 2021: existing (and weird) pass-through updated to incorporate design element additional design element created by hubby and father-in-law to break up long wall (turned out there was a pocket door that had been covered up!!) long wall has been dry-walled by professionals ASKS/SUGGESTIONS WELCOME! what do you think of this rug? what color should we do the LONG wall? should we do an accent wall or two back in the breakfast nook? The nook is essentially windowless but does have a skylight. Thanks in advance!!

If you're going to put in a hood, you really should vent to the outside - if you don't want to go staright through the wall, you can go up to the roof.

That shouldn't be a problem because you could extend the ducting and vent it thru the roof of the addition.

They make ranges where the larger of the two ovens is at the top, and the smaller one is on the bottom. Ours is a GE Profile.

On the full length pantry, I'd see if you could replace the shelves with full depth pull outs. I'll include a link to ours.

what ci-lantro said. vent it outside for now, and then once your addition is underway, they'll be easily able to extend it up and out.

Take a look at the shelf you're removing...that's what happens when the grease/steam/smoke isn't vented outside. Do yourself a big favor and vent it outside now. It will be very easy to extend it past the new addition later on...you shouldn't have to move it elsewhere.

Definitely get full extension, pullout shelves (a.k.a., roll out trays (ROTS)) for the bottom cabinet. As to the top cabinet, that's a different matter. You could probably get ROTS for the bottom part, but I would get 24"D adjustable shelves for the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the top cabinet. Do you have tray storage elsewhere? If not, you could adapt the top shelf to tray storage. Or, store light-weight items such as paper towel rolls, etc. in the top.

Could you post a pics of the cabinets? One of us might recognize it. I know I had purchased cabinets through HD and they were MIllspride which at the time were exclusively carried through HD. Very basic and inexpensive cabinets but you can still get components.

Our HDs also carry Thomasville and Kraftmaid --
I'd remove a drawer front or small cabinet door and take it with me to the store.

I definitely agree on the venting -- sorry.

And on the pantry, pull-out shelves are great for the knees-to shoulders zone, and baskets for above and below. Also, be sure to actually adjust the heights of the shelves! Don't just go with what's in there, because it might not make sense, and you don't want to waste any of the vertical space. There were some great threads about a year ago on pantry orgnaization, but one of the most useful hints was to put things on top that are bulky and lightweight, OR things that are easy to grab by the bottom 2", like cookbooks. Reserve the knees-to-shoulders zone for stuff you use all the time.
