Suggestions Please for New Fridge and Freezer in new home.

I'm at the very beginning stages of a new home build, but I'm already thinking about my kitchen. I currently have a 20 year old Traulsen commercial size by side. I do not like the noise and heat the condenser generates. I do like the cubic interior space. What I would like in the new house are two separate standard depth units, one fridge one freezer, about 30 inches each. I know this is done with brands like sub zero, but I want to avoid the condenser on top and shallow fridge. I've been doing my research and it seems Thermador makes freezer less fridges and all freezer units, but I can't seem to find examples of them being used side by side in a kitchen. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I'm trying to do and any recommendation?

Have you looked into Miele? Sounds like they make units that would fit your requirements -- , quiet, size of side by side/dual compressors you want. I'm also at early stage thinking so no experience with them for fridge/freezer. But I did just see their separate units used side by side with some kind of joining kit, in a showroom. Was impressed with the interior of the Miele, very drawn to it. Don't know their track record for this appliance, though I am inclined to trust them after owning other Miele appliances and given them HEAVY use for 12 years here, have been very very pleased. In terms of fridge-- I've had a smaller Liebherr unit for 12 years now and while I really like some things about it, there are other drawbacks that put me well off buying another, though they may have improved these since I'm not taking a flyer on that (quality of seals, situation with the drain in the interior, frost build in freezer). https://www.miele.ca/en/Product/Refrigeration

I have the Mieles (about five years old). They're the same exterior boxes as the Thermador, though there are differences in the electronics and finishes.

When you talk about "shallow fridge", however, what do you mean? All of the integrated/built-in columns, be it SubZero, Thermador or Miele, are flush to cabinets at 25" and are much smaller front to back than the standard free standing refrigerator. There are free standing all fridges and all freezers at full depth. I don't know about the width, but there should be something near 30". Perhaps 32". These aren't usually top of the line, however.

Here are my 30" Miele fridge and freezer in my kitchen. From the outside you can't tell they're not Thermador:

While I was at Home Depot today, I took a look, and they now have the new GE Cafe CFE29TSDSS on display right next to the Profile PFE29PSDSS that has been there since last year. Since I was able to see both next to each other, it's a toss-up as to which one looks better - or has the better features. The Profile has the curved doors & handles, and the hands-free auto fill for water. The Cafe instead is more square (no curves) and the handles look more "industrial". Instead of the hands-free auto fill, the Cafe has a hot water dispenser. While I find this interesting, the knob that you have to turn and push in felt a bit flimsy.. also, I'm wondering how "repairable" the heating coils are and if there is a way to descale them, since it is sealed within the door. When you look up inside the water dispenser, you can see two water hoses, for cold and hot water. Inside of the unit has a new odor remover that has a replaceable carterage and a LED lights that change color in the temp controlled deli drawer. Also, the bins on the sides of the doors are styled a bit different. So it seem that the Cafe has some newer features that are missing on the Profile (odor removal, colored LED in deli drawer, different styled door bins), thought the Cafe has the hot water maker, while the Profile has hands-free auto fill. I'm not sure how much use I'd get from the Cafe's hot water maker, since it only takes 3 min in the microwave to heat water for tea. And how long will the hot water maker last in the fridge before needing service.

boxta - Our two Sub Zeros were installed in 1987 when we renovated the house and enlarged the kitchen. When the time comes to replace them we'll have to confront the same problem. Since I want to be ready for that day and not be forced to make a quick decision that I might be unhappy with later I called a cabinetmaker to check and let me know what was possible. We do have a small cabinet above both the freezer and refrigerator and above that is a soffit. The cabinet maker said he'd be able to remove the cabinets without altering the soffit which would allow enough space for the taller Sub Zeros. Since our cabinets were custom we asked our original contractor to make sure we had plenty of leftover trim and panels just in case of a future remodeling. If you're still interested in a built in then I'd suggest you call a contractor or cabinet maker and have them look to see if it's feasible and get an estimate. That just might help you decide.

I wrote in this forum seven years ago about the Frigidaire all-freezer and all-refrigerator combo. We installed them as past of a major condo remodel - and have been TOTALLY happy with our choice. They are cabinet depth with zero clearance - a big deal for us. We find the refrigerator space "adequate," though a hidden benefit of the less-deep shelves is that we have no biology experiments molding away undiscovered in the back! The freezer space is awesome! Not to mention the jaw-dropping looks we get when visitors first enter our kitchen! Again, it's seven years later, and we have not had one single issue with the pair. If we build a new house, the kitchen will be planned around this same Frigidaire combo. Not sure the Electrolux-branded pair are worth the extra $$$, as they also make the Frigidaire units

I am in the same boat with a total renovation of our home and need to get these appliances nailed down. Today I am thinking (tomorrow it may be different): Dacor 36" gas cooktop (although I see a new one is out) Thermador Double Ovens- I too was going with only one convection but am rethinking after seeing the comment that it does make things more confusing having them different. I have not heard them but keep reading that they are noisy- I just love their look and their door. Did you pick Pro or Masterpiece? OR GE Monogram Double Ovens- just love those glides. ALSO I cannot stop looking at the Jenn Air- just love the outside but do not like how they have made the racks and the reviews- not so hot. Kitchen Aid beverage center 42" sxs fridge but which one? - I keep going back to the Sub but do not want to spend the big bucks. Am also looking at the Thermador or GE Monogram....just cannot decide. I am afraid I may end up having to go with the Sub Zero. The inside seemed more solid as well. Sharp microwave drawer for in the island- but I am leaning back to a regular microwave in built in elsewhere with a trim kit. Still need to decide on the hood and dishwasher. I am going back to the appliance store tomorrow I want to look at Elecrolux

We just bought a fridgidaire all refriderator. I love it. We had a french door LG before and the light bulbs melted and melted the plastic cover. The all fridge is supposed to be more efficient because it only has one generator. I would go with an all fridge and an all freezer.

My friends have a Kenmore pair which I think is equivalent to the Frigidaire. Around $1500 for both. They are counter depth and 36" wide each, so 72" if put side by side. Nothing really super about them, but you used to be able to get a trim kit that made them look built-in.
