No upper cabinets, where did you put glasses? Pics please.

I am in the planning stages of a kitchen remodel and am debating on whether to forego upper cabinets but am having a difficult time visualizing glasses/cup storage. If you do not have uppers could you please post pictures of your glass solutions. Thank you.

I do have upper cabinets but I have the most often used glasses in a drawer in our island:

I was going to post a pic of my Hoosier cupboard but realize that's not quite what you are thinking of. I like leela's glass drawer, clever.

illini girl, it will look fine! Having looked again at a bazillion Houzz kitchens and finished kitchens on Pinterest with the glass upper-uppers lit, and UCL, I'm noticing how much the color of the light affects the overall look. I've elected not to have my upper-uppers (which are glass on the range wall and half glass half solid on my refrig wall) not lit. If you have a glass corner upper cabinet with a light

Based on advice I'd gotten here, I put my xenon pucks towards the front of the cabinet - about 1/3 way back for 12" deep cabinets. I also have a corner cabinet - he put that puck the same distance from the front of the cabinet as the 12" deep ones. These are short cabinets that go to the ceiling above my regular upper cabinets, that I am using for display, so I have clear glass doors and with the puck closer to the front it's not as noticeable (when looking up at the cabinet) and also shines the light on the front of what I'm displaying (or will, once I get into the kitchen and things in those cabinets!!)

Our goal was not showing off stuff. Italian Double Satin Fibers--very subtle close up; we needed something to break up the amount of oak in the room, but didn't want it to be a strong design. If I had turned the patterned mugs, etc. a bit before snapping photo, you wouldn't see a lot, just the presence of the dishes. Color of item is a bigger issue than item shape when looking through a partially obscure glass if you want to NOT see stuff in cupboards, I think. I would probably choose a less expensive option if doing it again, but my #2 runner up "Dissymetry" seemed to have too much pattern when I was planning. It's one of a number of "sale" patterns at Art Glass Cabinets. Try this thread, one of many. I would politely suggest you read several of my posts above about the fact that the wallpaper is staying. I love the wallpaper and I love that it looks dated. The vast majority of my favorite dishes are all from the 60's and 70's. I have many pieces of vintage clothing that I love. I may have been a baby in the late 70's but the colors I love. They remind me of my favorite time of year which is fall. I'm not one to do something just because other people think I should. While I do appreciate the feedback I've been given it also does get a little tiring to repeat oneself. Before the wallpaper went in the stained back was a dark chocolate and it didn't look good that way either. It was terribly drab. If anyone else wants to mention taking the wallpaper down that is ok, but I'm going to stop repeating my self about it. LOL So rather than responding I'm just going say "see above". On a side note, I haven't had a chance to try some other pieces yet, we were taking out our old pool liner this afternoon so that will have to wait a little bit longer.

We have 12" deep glass-door cabinets at the end of the island. My coffee cups are with the dishes in a drawer like leela4's.

Oh, and I have glass shelves in the glasses cabinet. (All Ikea, and still looking great after 11 years!)

My DW opens south toward the north end of the island, which is quite close, but the glasses go in the end cabinet in the east side of the island, which is still convenient to the sink. Cups are there also, because the coffeemaker is directly opposite on the west kitchen wall opposite the east side of the island.

It's quite convenient as long as you stand at the west (left) side of the DW to unload them. Silverware, dishes, and pots and pans are unloaded from the right side into cabinets that direction.

Wouldn't change a thing.

No uppers, so dishes go in various drawers and glasses go in the wall pantry stack on a shelf.

I had a rack near the refridge where the kids would grab a cup and then get water. At my new house being built right now, I too will have no uppers and am thinking I will use this rack and also a drawer. I love the No Uppers look :)
