Soap Dispensers:What do YOU have?
Comments (27)Thanks for this thread. I have been looking for soap dispensers this whole week (after deciding on the Brizo Talo faucet) I've almost purchased 2 compatible Brizo dispensers a couple of different times until I came across mostly bad reviews on them. I was going to take my chances since I liked the style but then decided to look at the Elkay of Breeezy's and the Graff that was highly recommended on another thread. Too bad they were out of my price point.... I couldn't bear to spend that much on these accessories! My little update is budget! So, today I found 2 Kraus stainless dispensers on Amazon's warehouse deals (open packaging?) for the price of one. Spoke with Amazon, was assured that I had 30 days to decide if I liked to return and the Kraus warranty so I went for it. I think It resembles the Elkay. Granite, Check. Sink, Check. Faucet, check. Dispensers, check....It feels good to just make a decision so you can move on to the next! Off to the appliance forum!...See MoreLooking for pro/con advice on insta/hot & soap dispenser & dispos
Comments (9)Such a personal preference question I think. But I'll tell you why I am getting the instahot. I currently have a hot water dispenser on my counter which I have used tonnes. I got one from my MIL who was downsizing, thought I'd bring it out when she came to visit and put it away in between. Then I found it super useful so when the one she gave me broke I went out and bought another. I guess we use a fair bit of hot water in my house! So the instahot will get one more bulky appliance off my counters. Regarding some of the other responses - my instahot will be filtered before it is heated. I thought that was pretty standard? I guess it depends on how much filtration you need/want. Might not be able to get the best of filtration but it's good enough for me and our water. And the hot water from the instahot is very near boiling. But not boiling, just almost boiling. So if you need it really boiling then a kettle is still the way to go. A downside might be the potential for scalding ... so I'm having a valve installed by the plumber so I can switch it off when my kids are playing at the sink. A bit of a pain until they're old enough to be trusted at the sink but worth it for my peace of mind. It might not be an issue for you, but you wanted both pros and cons right?! I pondered the soap dispenser and never MT. I think they're great, but I decided I didn't want so many things cluttering my sink since the instahot will be there already. On a day to day basis there will be clutter. My house is lived in and the kitchen gets tonnes of use so on a day to day basis the dish and hand soap will both be out. But I wanted to be able to put those away for a cleaner and less cluttered look when/if I want to. Also, unless you have mostly plastic in the soap dispensing guts there can be corrosion of the metal parts from the added antibacterial agents and perfumes/colours in the soap. I've found that on my countertop soap dispenser in my MB - mostly aesthetically dis-pleasing so I haven't replaced it yet. It probably isn't too much of an issue since tonnes of people use them on the kitchen sinks. So for me I would have probably done the soap dispenser if I wasn't already doing the instahot. I just don't want so much stuff being permanently attached to the back of my sink. In regards to the disposal there are tonnes of interesting and varied opinions in the link you've already been given. I won't bother repeating it all again! HTH!...See MoreTwo Soap Dispensers? Pros and Cons? Placement?
Comments (28)Love the pros and cons and the vote to do what works for me, as well as advice on what has worked for YOU! All important considerations. I had read in older threads that some experienced enough aggravation with Never MT that they did not recommend them. I've never had one and never experienced any aggravation with filling a dispenser from the top, so I am not considering Never MT this time either. Something just jogged my memory, though, about how the dish soap dispenser isn't helpful if it cannot be mounted closely enough that the soap dispenses INTO the sink rather than onto the counter or onto the side of the sink. So, I might make my decision after the counter fabricators tell me how close they can mount the dispenser to the sink....See Moreplacement of faucet, filter faucet, air switch, hand soap dispenser
Comments (14)“I cannot picture what one looks like with a handle in front.“ Here is a link to a thread on this topic. With this faucet handle placement, you do away with water, soap scum, and hard water minerals from dripping hands landing on the counter under the faucet. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2442104/positioning-single-handle-kitchen-faucet ”I'm not sure there's a more safe place or a less safe place as far as kids or someone touching the switch if someone had to stick their hands down the drain for if something like a fork fell in the drain...” You could also consider a “batch feed disposal”, in which there is no switch. The disposal is operated by a cover which doubles as a sink strainer and stopper. Push the cover in, the disposal starts. Pull the cover off, the disposal stops. The disposal can only operate with the cover on. There is no separate switch. There are pros and cons of each type of disposal - the “continuous feed“ which is what an air switch operates that you are talking about, and the “batch feed” which is what I just described. Read up on them if you are interested. I myself have a 1 hp batch feed disposal which I have had for many years because I too was concerned about my kids. Now they are grown but I still prefer the batch feed style. One caution is that my 1 hp batch feed disposal is large and takes up more room under the sink. This very quick video shows the cover of the Waste King batch feed disposal turning it on, turning it off, and acting as a stopper or as a strainer so you can see how the disposal works (though mine doesn’t have the strainer thingy shown at the very end. That strainer makes no sense since the black cover acts as the strainer). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=15y-l7sO3pM...See Morearlocat
