marble slab selected! pics!

they had a batch of Calacatta Cremo Delicato in a very warm, peachy color. does not have a lot of veining and while to some may not appeal as it does not look like typical Calacatta Cremo Delicato, i am in love! looks like a puffy peachy/white cloud! (disregard the grey slab behind it, not part of my order)

when i got home i realized why i loved the color. it is the exact same color as my dear boy!

still working through a cabinetmaker train wreck of a mess but had to report a piece of good news!

Definitely not an easy decision. One thing you may want to do when you go bak to the yard today is make a cardboard cutout the size of the sink you will be putting in. That way you can see where it will fall in the slab. Then make sure you have them note that you want to be there for templating to ensure where the sink will go. You would hate for your favorite part of the slab to fall where the sink goes. We almost had that problem with DS1's vanity granite-- the fabricator had templated the sink to go where all the pretty swirls in the granite came together --those swirls in that part of the granite was one of the biggest reasons I chose that piece & putting the sink there would have ruined it for me. Dawn, congrats on buying your stones- again. Love the granites and the marble. I have never seen a granite like the one for your DS. It is amazing. Can't wait till your chicks come home to roost and you post pics. But I have seen granite similar to what you chose for your kitchen- you should live in Baltimore, girl, I drive by a slab of granite like that every day on the way downtown to work!! Makes my morning! There is a new fabricator business and they have a fenced lot next to the road where they display granite slabs and remnants(I think their operation looks sketchy but it is fun to drive by and look at what is new outside!!) too funny. I was oogling that granite again this morning. So are you gonna camp out in the granite yard? Ya'll have grizzlys up there doncha?? Don't forget your mukluks and flashlight!! palimpsest your link didn't work but I googled the sinks. They are beautiful but probably too pricey given the investment we've already made in plumbing. I'll ask my plumbing person to look into getting me a good price. Thanks! bostonpam the faucet cannot be mounted on the side because the sink is too long and the faucet would be over the cabinet and there would be no way to accommodate plumbing. That was the first suggestion we tried. sprtphntc, I was and am definitely very happy with Imperial. I was going to email and thank you for recommending them today when I had time. So, thanks :) oldbat2be, the TV is actually in the mirror. Like this except we have a frame for our mirror that matches our cabinets. The TV disappears when not in use and it just looks like a mirror:

Quality Calacatta is harder to obtain. You need to work with good suppliers for this. You can expect variation, as with any natural stone, but we are seeing, and perhaps due to the mining and availability right now, that there are strong variations. As for pits and chips, well that would not be acceptable. We are wrapping up a very long project and one of the baths is all Calacatta. The countertop will also be Calacatta (carefully selected from our trusted supplier and matched to the tile) but it isn't installed yet so no pictures. Here's some in progress photos. Note the third pic where we stacked the trims pieces in front of the field tile. The trims on the right were a good blend but the left was void of veining and not a good match. As a contractor with relationships and "buying power", we were able to shade all our tile in a dry lay out and return the unacceptable for replacements. You will always have SOME variance so you need to tolerate and expect this. But based on our experience we are able to discriminate between "expected" and unacceptable. It's a beautiful stone and dramatic statement if you can get it right. Good luck with your project.

Very nice! Adore your kitty! What a great picture - so artsy with the sun coming in - frame it! I was also accused of getting granite that matched my cat :) (My 18 year old guy looks a lot like your guy). There was a bunch here at one point - someone's gray tiger stripe tabby also blended beautifully with her granite.

My dearly departed little tiger cat would have matched your marble perfectly. Now that I think about it, my other dearly departed gray fur ball would go very nicely with my new marble. Oh, I better not get any black countertops because I have a very old black kitty and I don't want to be referring to him as "dearly departed" next.

Can't wait to see your slab all cut up!

Slab is gorgeous, soft and soothing and your little boy is such a moosh! It's so funny how color coordinated the 2 are, lol

If I may give you something to consider....

The small rectangle on the far left has some dark veining-it's really pretty, but not consistent with the other pieces. I had chose Typhoon Green in my prior home and there were some darker areas that laid towards the back of the counter. Can't say whether it was due to lighting or what, but it kinda drove me nuts, it seemed dirty looking.

That said, perhaps talk to your fabricator about placing that piece forward a bit on the slab and installing it dark vein forward. The darkness combined with the profile will add gorgeous interest and pick up the bit of darkness in the corner of the large piece!

Isn't it great to LOVE your decision? I can't wait to see it installed. Your boy in the bowl looks waayy too excited about your choice :) They'll be a perfect match.

the original babushka is in cat heaven...this kitty is the second generation babushka_cat (although not genetically related, but in spirit)

he loves that bowl, is in it all the time!
