I am spending the weekend packing up, throwing away and cooking in preparation for the demo on Monday. Anyone else have demo this week? Might be crazy to do the week before a 3 day weekend, but we will be at BBQs and other things that will get us fed out of the house. :)

I have to go find the what did you eat thread and copy some crockpit recipes! Any hints, let me know. I am making ice, thanks to someone here and their wise words.

Sold the dishwasher on Craigslist, the refig is supposed to go to the pool snack shack, if they can get it together. My initial listing of the range got lots of responses - but no takers, but none now. oh well. 1 applicance isn't bad and it is the oldest by far. I may try Restore if they can pick it up this week.

Guess that is it. My break is over, I will find another box to pack.

It will take longer than you think. And mark on the box what's inside so that when you need the mixer beaters you can find them.

Hi Allie,
I just finished packing. My sister (who just refinished her wood floors) told me to tape plastic drop cloths over all the windows so I won't have to clean drywall powder and sawdust out of all the little latches and grooves around the windows. Good advice (I hope). My demo is 7/7 and I've moved out until everything is completed.

It sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you, re-potting everyone... I wish we lived closer; I'd pop by to help! 100 adult bulbs plus offspring is a lot of bulbs! I'm very glad that they all "weathered" the elements and insects well... those were my biggest fears, and the main reasons why I decided not to bring my bulb family outdoors this year. I lost a Sprekelia bulb to rain and insects, and their seed pods earlier in the season, and that was enough for me! I think germinating and growing the seeds outdoors worked out really good, though... my little seedlings are doing well. They'll winter under lights, and I may take them outdoors next spring to grow... we'll see what the future brings. The perennial seed harvest is going well, and very soon I'll have seeds to send your way! I've got several varieties and types of seeds drying out a bit right now... once I get them in envelopes, off they go! I'll be sending seed packages to several people... use what you like, and share or discard the rest. Most are from perennials I grew from seed or division, and most are cottage style garden plants in a plethora of colors and sizes and shapes! Good luck with your potting, Lizalily... I sure wish I could lend a hand... but I will be thinking of you, and sending those good thoughts your way! :-)

Barb5, I think you are right -- cleaning out the room is dredging up feelings that she did not expect. Compounding the issue is that none of her friends have to deal with this. They have larger homes, no younger siblings w/space needs, and are financially better off which makes this even more "unfair." I keep reassuring her that the rest of the house is exactly the same and will still feel and BE home, even if she's moved down the hall. I also said I will pay for her transportation home and she can come home any time she wants, no questions asked (within reason of course) so she knows we're here for her and this is her home. As for the timing, well we have talked about it for weeks and she didn't want to be surprised by any changes. She thought it would be harder on her to be uninvolved. Now that we're in the middle of it, I can see there'd be problems no matter how we approached it. From a practical standpoint, Sooner was better because DH is a hoarder. Every wall covered with magazine clippings, posters, etc, piles of books, notebooks, art supplies, dishes, etc. everywhere. I didn't know how I was going to get her organized and packed if we didn't strip it down. There's also a scheduling issue -- she's due at school Aug. 19, and since we're on vacation the first week of August and packing her up the second week the last two weeks of July are the best time (given my schedule and vacation schedules) to get it done. I've tried coming up with a compromise to ease her worries but my husband takes a firm line: it's not fair to keep the younger child crammed into his room once she's gone. She's had the bigger nicer room for 15 years (we lived elsewhere until she was 3) and it's now our son's turn. We've always repurposed space as the family's needs change, and that's what this is, in DHs opinion. He doesn't want to coddle her at our son's expense. Maybe I'm the coddler -- I'm feeling very torn here...

Did you buy the shower rods? Do you need them in the new place? I'd leave them unless you need one in your new home. And even then, I'd leave one in the old place, so that the new occupants can take a shower that first day without having to run out and buy a shower rod. I think that shower rods are something that usually conveys--I've never moved into a place without them. Tipping--I generally tip $20 per person. If they do something extra, like the time they had to bring a table in by the balcony because it wouldn't fit up the stairs, I tipped a bit more. And I usually have disposable cups so the movers can get a drink of water. Surprisingly, they don't always bring their own drinks--I would have thought that given the nature of their job, they would get thirsty and they'd have something to drink with them, but usually they don't. Even though it's clear that the households they are moving will have all their glasses packed up. Some people provide soda or other drinks.

I wish you luck! I'm moving back in and sorting at this point. It was too hectic to sort while packing. We just threw it all in open boxes and filled our hallway and den. Though we had pulled out what we thought we needed, meal prep was (and still is) a scavinger hunt. I would have been happy with cereal, sandwiches and salads. But DH is grilling up a storm. He's even boiled pasta water on the grill. He made eggs in the cast iron skillet on the grill. lol.

Hi, pizza stones come in very handy for placing in the grill to set old pans on so you can use grill as an oven. There is a little learning curve but it can be done with great results. So,if you have a grill I would not pack the old pans and pizza stone.

we did it. Even though I left the cooking until the last minute, we were pretty much moved in the temp kitchen by dinner time and even ate at the pool. I didn't cover the hinges on the windows, but am sure I will regret that. Was just so tired after the days of shuttling kids (school ended on Thursday) and kitchen stuff, not to mention work!

First glitch in the plan will be if we have thunderstroms tonight and the swim meet is cancelled, dinner was to be out of the snack shack!

I checked in at Lunchtime and the dry wall is pretty much all down, so we can see all 3 rooms together for the first time. It will be nice and big! I wonder how different from what it looks like on paper!

Wow, Allie, sounds like we are doing something similar. Today is the first time I was able to see the new family room space open up to the old space. Tomorrow, another wall comes down! I think the demo is the worst (so messy!). I still have 2 rooms to pack and figure out how we will live in one room for 2 months! Yikes, the wine is handy and trying to keep the end in sight!

I've been planning this reno for 9 months. I got really excited about seeing my new sink and faucet in boxes, but I can't wait to actually see something important, like the cabinets and granite.

I commend you who can live in this mess...I've moved out for the duration.
