Bathroom finished! Pics & a question
Comments (14)Bestyears, auntomichael, lesnyc, & flyleft, Thanks so much. It's so good to have my color scheme validated! Bestyears, I wish I started out my day surrounded by glass tile. Instead, I start out my day surrounded by diapers and baby bottles. When I'm lucky, I can *end* my day in the shower, but that doesn't happen every day... Dgmarie, Lol! The tile is *supposed* to be crooked. Hakatai Ashland and Oceanside Tessera are "rustic" tiles. No one tile is exactly the same, so they don't line up cleanly. There are more pictures on the Oceanside (see link below) and Hakarai websites. It's not everyone's cup of tea, I know. Flyleft, Have you seen ORB tension curtain rods? We wanted a tension rod so we wouldn't have to drill into the glass, but I couldn't find an ORB one. However, I didn't look very hard. I would definitely be open to getting one. Qdognj, flyleft, & dgmarie, Thanks for the input on the caulk situation. We will be placing a call to the tilesetter on Monday. One thing I forgot to put in my post is that we also took out a drop ceiling and shifted half of a wall. I really wish I had "before" pictures!! Here is a link that might be useful: Another example of Oceanside Tessera glass tile (red)...See MoreThe oldest kitchen remodel on GW...finally finished cherry kitche
Comments (72)RM :( I'm so sorry to read your son is still challenged. And more so to see you're on the horrific "diagnostic" road trip literally. I wish there was something that could be done to blow that danged road up....I don't miss it and hate hearing anyone is traveling it. I can only hope you have a short trip! Virtual hugs in the biggest of ways hun! I have only this advice, learned in year three of that road....carry a big purse and a wine opener. You'll be a friend to many a parent if you lock the door to the parent room and crack open a bottle quietly :) Screw tops can be your friends as well. (And for those horrified that one would drink in a hospital...you haven't spent months in one I guarantee). A quiet glass of wine at 11 when the kids are finally asleep and it's marginally quiet (only the sickest kids are making noise that never goes away, soft cries of pain...that glass of wine alone in the dark while you thank god that's not your child every so often is a peace you don't understand). Enough of that....back to the chickens! hm here's a photo of just the backsplash uninstalled. We framed it in nordic black antique granite to make it fit the space it's in (Joe the tile guy rocked!) So the funny thing is....I've had to move (because of my son's health we had to leave alaska) so we have a new house and two kitchens to remodel/build LOL So I get to start planning all over again :) I can't wait to start from the beginning all over again....(which makes you wonder if I do crack does it not? I can't afford it, I have to finance another kitchen LOL). Star thanks for the nag. I missed the first one :) (You're good LOL) I'll work on the worksheet over the next couple of days. :)...See MoreBrick Floor Grouted and FINISHED! ..and a few other pix
Comments (57)Feisty I have beat you to it, the bathroom downstairs is also brick and I think it is fabulous! Will post pictures, we have a new khaki countertop and Handy Guy is painting the vanity a barn red next week. Having a soft yellow/ gold shower curtain made to hang behind the (new) arched opening over the shower/tub and cabinet person is making enough paneling for the fireplace wall to front the side of the tub. And we are ordering antique finish brass faucets and tapes for sink and shower, yay, the existing satin nickel ones look incongruous with the brick. We may install siding on one long wall of bathroom also but I only want Handy Guy to do this, not the GC's guys. ( I am anxious to get them out of my house, no one seems to own a pencil and paper, they come back endlessly, to do small jobs they could have done in one call, this is true of the electricians, carpenters and drywallers.) Lol, I have even ***pretentiously*** coined a new descriptive phrase for our basement style to encompass the brick floors, siding on interior walls, black wrought iron rails and sconces, etc.... renovated carriage house....See MoreWe are almost finished with our kitchen remodel and hit a road block!
Comments (14)I would just do a small white subway tile and let the counter tops stand out. I would remove that lowered corner cabinet you have sitting on the counter top, that does not look good and is dating an obviously new kitchen. And then you need to decorate the counter tops including the island (and not with paper towel holders) to help break up all of that white....See Moregryane
