Too much brown? Need paint advice.

I'm finally ready to choose a paint color! The lady I'm working with at our tile shop recommended a shade of brown, which would work, but I'm feeling like that might be *too much* brown. What else would you recommend? I think I'd like the kitchen elements to be the star, not the paint color. I just want it to be complementary and lovely.

I wish I had more pics, but here's a rundown of my choices:

- Granite is Giallo Ornamental - the background is pretty light & more creamy than yellow like some slabs of GO

- Backsplash tile is linked below

- Silgranit sink in Cafe Brown

- Cabinets are SW Natural Choice (slight off-white) and island is dark walnut

- Floors also are walnut

I think thats too much brown. What about a cream to tie in the creamy GO? I think that could look great. Or, what about a taupe color? Hard to say without seeing any pics. I hope that helps!

Manure supplies organic matter and micronutrients you won't get from fertilizers. But, as said above, not much in the way of nitrogen, which is what you need the most of. I also dislike the fertilizer/fungicide/insecticide combinations. Application timing is different for each product for one thing. At least everywhere I've gardened, you need fungicides on one schedule, fertilizer on another, and inseccticides on no schedule at all, but on an as-needed basis. Some years I apply no insecticides at all. You won't burn your roses by adding the combo in addition to the steer manure. It's nitrogen that burns plant roots, and there's little nitrogen in steer manure. It's just not the way I'd go. I'd add the manure, although I use chicken manure (more nitrogen, less salt), and then I'd use an all-round, all purpose fertilizer to add the nitrogen. I add organic fertilizers in winter, as they take time to be processed by soil microbes, and supplement with nitrogen fertilizers in late spring.

I KNOW I had updated pictures of our Cowboy Chic den but can't for the life of me find them. The 24x26 room isn't a brown brown, more of a orangy brown. Walls and sectional pretty much the same color. The carpet is an antelope print (that's what it's called but it's really an axis deer print, same as the skin on the coffee table)with brown in it. My punches of color are the pillows on the sectional. They're all the same style pillow in brick red, sage green, brownish green, orange, dark brown and gold. Even the tile is close in color and dark brown wood coffee table and end tables. This is the only picture I can find...oh, AND the ceiling in this large room is wood too. I think it's a personal preference whether or not you think it's too much of the same color. We've got a 10 foot long white Austin Chopped stone fireplace (goes all the way to the ceiling) that breaks up the color and plenty of other accessories on the walls (plus 10 windows). Monotone-ish den Vaulted ceiling Couch. We've had THREE couches in this den in 9 years :o The first leather sectional broke (handle) and was replaced under an extended warranty. The second leather set, I never liked. It was uncomfortable and too formal looking for our room. The third time was the charm and it's NOT leather. It's our favorite by far! We have two grandchildren that are here as often as they can talk their momma into letting them come over LOL At least 3 days a week. Even tho food and drink isn't allowed in there and shoes are supposed to come off at the door, stuff happens. Hands don't get wiped or they'll sneak a leaky sippy cup in there while I'm not looking. This is some kind of microfiber that at first glance and especially at a distance, looks like leather. A wipe with a damp microfiber cloth is all it takes to clean it. It's definitely a miracle fabric :) And the baby on the couch...he's the best accessory :)

Denise, here is a link about lighting. That lamp, to me, is not appropriate for the space without having other lighting, not because of the size, but because the light doesn't point downward. It points upward/outward. It is the type of light you use for ambient lighting of the room. JMO. (Edit: I have to admit I am not a fan of torchiere-type lighting in any form at all, so this may impact my view of that particular floor lamp) Groveraxle, and others on Houzz, are much more knowledgeable in this area than I am....please read these houzz articles to start. Briana, that does help. Here are a few of the ideas I'm considering. I'm trying to stay away from anything *too* warm because I'd like to use cooler colors in the adjoining living area.

Creams:
SW Dover White
SW Accessible Beige
SW Creamy

Taupes:
SW Universal Khaki
SW Tony Taupe

Grayish (My slab of GO appears to have a touch of gray in it):
SW Useful Gray (one shade darker than the cabinet color)
SW Mindful Gray (two shades darker than the cabinet color)

I think brown is officially off the table. Too much of a good thing.

BK, I'm picturing what WAS my old slab of GO (before it was sold to someone else). I think it sounds the same. I'm a BMoore girl, so I had to look up your colors.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the mindful gray! LOVE! Other close seconds are the universal khaki and the creamy (which is similar to my acadia white in my kitchen).

Briana, you're the GO expert, so I really appreciate your feedback. Interestingly, I was most drawn to Mindful Gray, Universal Khaki and Creamy, too. I may need to visit the granite yard and hold up some paint chips to be sure.

SW's Classic White Buff is a REALLY close match to Acadia White -- I'll put that into the running, too.

BK, get the granite yard to chip a piece of your granite off for you. You really want to look at it in your light, not the bad lighting at the warehouse or yard. I also recommend getting a piece of white cardboard and painting it so that you can set it up against your wall and then set your GO sample at the bottom horizontally. This would give the appearance that will be most realistic. HTH! Can't wait to see it!

Maybe do a two-toned look like Bee's kitchen. I love the brown, but more as an accent.

Briana, I was able to compare a chunk of my granite to the paint chips. Mindful Gray is PERFECT -- everything I was looking for! Hooray for another decision made!
