Need pictures and advice on sink not centered on window, please.
Comments (14)Thank you all for your help. All of the links were great, laxsupermom. I knew they were out there but I couldn't find them. Palimpsest your photo and thoughts focused DD on the correct issues to work on. The sink she wants to use is the Kohler Prologue. This will give her a good size sink basin and enable her to have a pullout trash can under the drainboard/wet prep area of the sink according to a few KD's. Her wall cabinets will seem to be symmetrically placed around the window and she wants a pendant light over the sink so now she thinks it would be better to have the basin portion of the sink centered on the window. The wet prep area would extend beyond the right edge of the window but with the faucet centered on the basin and the window do you think this would accomplish the trick of making things look right? Buehl, on one of laxsupermom's links, you commented on how a DW should not be between the range and the sink. This was the exact issue that started DD on thinking about moving the sink off center to the right. If she can gain enough space she can move her DW to the left of the sink. Right now it's driving her crazy because it always seems to interfere with prep and clean up. If she centers the sink basin on the window she will have 21" from the DW to the left side perpendicular countertop. Does that sound like enough space? Thanks again, everyone, for your thoughts. Comments (7)My mom just arrived from out of town and I won't beable to get back to this until Monday. Quick qustions for now. So do you just want one island or do you want two. I'm confused about that. Does your lighting - windows - stay the same from Plan 1 and Plan 2. It sounds like you are still relatively young and the older you get the more light you will need (crave?!) and I'm afraid that as this is your forever home, you will regret losing that window. I'll be back....See MoreLarge sink w 2 faucet placement advice?
Comments (7)Been researching, found a great link that has diagrams about faucet height and reach in relation to sink size. Faucet measurements for sink A 9.25 spot reach might not be far enough when taking into consideration the setback of the faucet from the sink edge. Seems like I should look for at least a 10 inch spout reach for my sink. I think I look for that, and then plan to have my faucets 10 1/2 inches from each edge. I wanted to follow up so the article and my thoughts might help someone else. Cheers!...See MoreWindows: size and placement advice please
Comments (22)The one in the master bath is called a single or double-hung window. If you can slide the top down too, it's a double. I have both side to side sliders and double-hungs in the kitchen. I can advise against double-hung - they are fairly difficult to operate (leaning over the counter to operate the catch in the center), although its nice to be able to have some air moving near the ceiling. Windows come in standard sizes for a given manufacturer, but all manufacturers do not offer the same sizes. You can get custom made windows, but they are really expensive. You can get single casements in 36" wide and about your desired length, in the standard sizes from some makes. Whether they match will will depend mostly on adding grids between the glass panes in the same pattern as your existing windows. It will also depend on how picky you are about it. Casement windows will likely have a slightly different appearance around the edges on both the in and outside. Other details might be a little different from different makers. The new windows are a different height anyway (I think) and your second story windows are different from the first story so the slight exterior appearance difference doesn't seem like something to worry about to me....See Morekevinw1
