I'm not waiting on Ivillage to replace our posts.......

Soooo...

Tonight I made shrimp scampi on the grill. I boiled angelhair on the side burner (4 minutes so I KNEW it would cook up somehow).

Then I did the shrimp. Now bear in mind I'm a southern cook and never attempted shrimp scampi before.

My chef/husband ATE IT UP. Bear in mind -- he spent the entire day outside downtown doing cooking demos for robert mondovi vinyards for some wine tasting thingie. And he swore he was NOT hungry when he came home. I told him to dive into the pool and let me do it.

Him and his dad managed to eat 5 lb of shrimp. And hubby officially said I "NAILED" the shrimp scampi.

I did all of this on the grill and am so proud. Being married to a pro chef is like a constant test of my skills. And annoying.. lol

Tonight I wowwed him.... he kept dipping into the sauce out on the deck. Snicker..... i did good

Good for you! While our kitchen was out of commission, I used an electric frying pan, a crockpot, and a combo microwave-convection oven.

Congratulations Cindy! Nice going on "nailing" the shrimp scampi!!! You go girl!

Know just what you are up against. My daughter's husband is a chef and she was a caterer before they were married... If you listen to him you would think she did not know the first thing about boiling water!

jsmith: Salivate, salivate, salivate! That dessert pizza looks yummy! modthyrth: The Nutella pizza does sound wonderful. I'd read about a version with marshmallows, but not mascarpone. (Salivating again!) We're doing pizza tomorrow, weather permitting, so I'll have to try that as we DO have all the ingredients on hand. Can't wait to try it. About the lemon drop pizza, it's a direct steal from the Forno Bravo website. A company called the Pizza Gypsy made it for the first FB Expo last spring. Here's a link to the recipe, as well as a discussion about tweaks to the recipe. We've decided that we like it best when we cut off the rind before slicing the lemons. We tried taking off all but the barest minimum of the rind and pith, but that still left the lemon slices with a tough edge. Your idea of blanching might work well. If you try it, please let me know the result. Whatever approach you take, it's very, very tasty. BTW, we blithely ignore the "spread a thin layer of mascarpone," instruction and spread a thick layer!

ROTFL!!! Donka, all I can say is "Giddayup". I need to clean out the fridge, so I'm going to make soup base for the freezer with the turkey carcass, leeks, rutabega and carrots. I got some lasagna noodles, so I'm going to slice up some yellow squash that needs using, and the fennel bulbs I just got, and whatever peppers I have, and oven roast them, to layer with the ricotta. I have a little tzimmis left which I think I'll puree into the ricotta. I got some shallots, too. And I got some lamb shanks to braise with baby carrots and pearl onions and leftover sweetish red wine. And a chicken. It's a really big chicken. They tried to tell me it was a fryer, but it's 4.5 lbs.!! I think I'll roast it with the heels of my multigrain bread if it's not gone moldy, and an orange. I can try out the probe because I have no idea (other than the butcher's recommendation) how long to cook this big a not turkey. JRueter, I'm in Gelsonsland, so it has to be an amazing farmer's market to be really tempting. And yes, some of them are more about the social thing than cooking! The worst is being at a dinner party where the hosts are name dropping the truck farmers like they're best friends rather than customers. Needs, keep us posted!!! I'm keeping a good thought for Thursday!

Tonight I put the pizza stone in the grill and baked Salmon with doctored up Costco Pesto sauce on top in an old deep dish pizza pan. Husband said it was the best I have ever made. It was served with Costco prepared couscous with an extra squeeze of half a lemon. Lunch was Costco prepared brushetta over Costco sliced demi baguettes, a little Costco crab dip and array of fresh fruit. Tomorrow will be leftovers from all the above. I think I will be shopping at Costco a lot during remodel and will cook up the large quantities of chicken breast packs on the grill, putting in zip locks and freezing. I will have lots of fresh veggies on hand as well as instant rice. Now that I know I can use my outside grill as an oven with the pizza stone in there I dont feel IÂll really be that limited and will even give casseroles a try using the already cooked chicken. I never had much counter space anyway so maybe this wonÂt be so bad.

Dip and crackers, toast (sometimes with an egg or two), French toast, prosciutto wrapped around sliced mozzarella, or oatmeal. Yogurt. Or we'll go into town to one of the many restaurants (family/local, or national chain/fast food) and get something there. A local place makes a good Reuben and most around here make a good burger and fries. Mmm, now I'm getting hungry. On the healthier side, a good salad always sits well with me. At work, we make a wonderful chicken Caesar salad. Before the pandemic, we did have a nice, assorted salad bar. Doesn't help matters much that I get a 50 or 20% discount (50 while I'm there, a half hour before or a half hour after, otherwise, it's 20%). Sometimes, mum will pick up some chicken (fried, rotisserie or baked), from the grocery store and we'll have that for dinner. I miss our local KFC, the local grocery stores don't even compare. Congrats! With summer here during your reno am hoping you have many more successes with the grill. (Our reno was during Feb and all the blizzards that marched across the nation - we had over 2 feet of snow on the deck where the grill is located - so we didn't see it for many weeks!)

Would love to have the recipe you used for the shrimp scampi if you have time to send.

MMMMMM garlic and butter----mmmm, on the grill. So delicious.

Well, he WAS hungry, contrary to his protestions of not being hungry. I'll bet he got VERY hungry the minute he smelled the grill, the butter, the garlic and, perhaps, the shrimp. I sure would. It'd make me famished.

Not to diminish your culinary skills at all, but other than overcooking---how could you screw up garlic, butter, shrimp? On second thought, I could screw it up in the wink of an eye. I would/could get preoccupied in some meaningless thing in 30 seconds and mess up these marvelous ingredients. Maybe that's why I cook less and less and my family says........
