Need help picking a kitchen faucet

I have too many decisions to make...I feel like I'm going crazy, and if it weren't for GW, I might already be crazy by now!

I'm trying to pick a kitchen faucet. At first, I was going with a bridge, a very expensive choice (Perrin and Rowe English bronze w/sidespray). I was wanting ORB, and the bronze finish on the P & R is lovely. However, this selection has kept me up at night, worrying about the price, my kids abusing it, and putting a bunch of holes in the granite (I also want a soap dispenser and a cold filtered water dispenser as well).

So, now I'm looking at pull-down faucets, but my worries there are dangling faucet heads, etc. I've run many searches over here and in the plumbing section, and I've narrowed it down to a couple of possibilities, but I'm still unsure about the choice. Plus, I'm wondering if I should go with a brushed nickel instead of ORB for these, since neither of my two possible pull-downs have that same bronze look that the Rohl faucet has.

So, to sum up, I'm looking at these pull-downs:

Kohler Vinnata in ORB or Vibrant BN

Grohe Bridgeford in ORB or BN

And, I haven't yet ruled out my original selection, which, of course, is not a pull-down.

Can anyone weigh in on these faucets? I know many here have the Vinnata and are happy; anyone have it in ORB? How is it with the nylon tubing on the pull-down? Does it retract well? What about you Bridgeford owners? I like that the Bridgeford has the metal tubing, which seems sturdier to me. The ORB finish seems a bit more black and matte to me, and I'm not sure that is going to look right with my other choices (Star Beach granite, Cafe Brown silgranit sink).

Does anyone have the Perrin and Rowe bridge? Love it? Is it worth the $$, and is it durable (i.e., can it withstand many small, grubby hands twisting handles and pulling on the spout?)?

I have questions about the choice of finish, but I'll leave that for a future post...this post is already long enough!

My choice was along the lines your taking, with narrowing that selection to a styling that was appealing, had a durable finish and worked towards the direction we were taking our kitchen design. In regards to the finish, most manufacturers are utilizing a PVD technology that have high hardness, high resistance to abrasion and high resistance to chemical attack.

I also noted from members on a few of the boards the high marks in areas given to certain manufactures. For me, that was down to three, possibly four faucets.

What eventually won out in my selection was price and opportunity, which ended up being a brand new Grohe Ladylux Cafe, in the brushed stainless for ~$250 delivered.

Wow, frank59. That's a great price for a Ladylux! Have you been happy with Grohe? What Grohe has that Kohler doesn't is that nice, all-metal pull-out tubing (or whatever you call it). It just seems a lot more durable to me. Durability is the biggest factor for me. I know Grohe gets a lot of praise, and seems to be a better price than the Rohl lines.

I don't know if I'll get one of those golden opportunities for a great deal coming my way, but I appreciate your thoughts on the faucet. Thanks for responding!

Yes, in a small kitchen that is visible from other rooms, carrying the same floor through into the kitchen will make it seem more spacious and all-of-a-piece. I'd add another suggestion, if you'd like to consider it. I would paint the lower cabinets in a rich brown/bronze - the darkest tone in your new countertops would be a good choice - and leave the upper ones white. I also wouldn't add surface molding to unpaneled doors...they collect dirt, and ease of cleaning is probably something you want in a full life. Since your kitchen is visible from both sides, dark lower cabinets on a wood floor will feel more like furniture in a room that is part of the whole house. And for that same reason, I would consider carrying the wall color from your family room or dining room into the kitchen as well, to bring the spaces together. You could also use the wallcolor on the upper cabinets in a satin finish, if you want to fully integrate the kitchen into the plan.

I've always had a separate sprayer so don't know what I am missing:) I've heard some complain that the pull down sprayer on some faucets can eventually dangle a bit - but I don't know what brand - I would think not with a really good faucet. I hardly used the sprayer in my old two bowl sink. I use it frequently with the Whitehaven. It is the only way to wash down the whole sink. I've had my faucet 2 years with no problems - did have to clean out the aerator a few times the first day. I think that there are some other companies that make a similar style to mine.

Aw man, thanks for the comments guys! After being in this house with small kids for eight years, the cabinets are showing wear and there is quite a bit of water damage on many of them and some are broken (didn’t show you that photo!). So...that was where my head was at with going ahead and painting the cabinets. They are already priming today so this is a done deal! In my area, painting cabs is still a big thing (we might steer behind the times a little) and a big thing people look for in resale (we could be moving in a couple years). Honestly, it might not be trendy but I still love my granite! It hides stuff so well and never looks dirty. And I never even notice my backsplash and I just don’t care that much about it. It’s hard for me to warrant changing something just for cosmetic reasons (counter and backsplash) versus need (cabs). We got an amazing deal on the painting so I feel good about it. I’m going full steam with Antique White. After looking at it forever and being in complete decision making paralysis, that’s what I’m going with! I’m going with brass/gold knobs to add a little bit of funky and I have lots of Anthropologie-esque and plants to add character. I have a very open floor plan with my living room right there in all it’s colorful glory, so I’m thinking the lighter will look nice. I’ll be happy to post a pic when I’m done. Thanks for listening!!

your contractor should give you a pair of samples showing a range of stains on each material, so that you can pick ones that harmonize undertones and give you the desired amount of contrast.

Okay, went back to the plumbing store today...I think I'm going with the Grohe Bridgeford pull-down (in brushed stainless) for the kitchen, with the Bridgeford high profile dual handle bar faucet for the veggie. This feels like a good compromise to me; not as spendy as the Rohl, but still very high-quality (plus less holes in my granite).

I'm hoping I'll be happy...never have owned a Grohe before, but it seems to be a product many GWers love!
