What would you do?

The fabricator discovered today that the slab he was going to use for a seamless run of counter measures 119 inches instead of the usual 120.

So I have 3 options:

1. Wait for another slab about 7-10 days and hope it measures to standard. Fabricator expressed a concern. I am not sure if it can be measured before it ships. Fabricator did not suggest it. I will ask him that question tomorrow.

2. Split the difference and put a seam on both left and right side of counter near walls.

3. Place seam on either right or left side. In this case, which side?

We plan to put a tile backsplash on the 2 side walls and window wall.

Has anyone seen creme limestone caesarstone with a seam? Should I be concerned? We were looking forward to a "seamless" kitchen.

This is not the end of the world, but I do not have to tell you about how easy it is to get caught up in the pursuit of perfection.

Put a single seam in the middle at the sink if your fabricator is familiar with how to do the process correctly. It's less likely to be noticed with such small pieces.

I'll add that at the time of install, the fabricator got a little nervous about the length (10ft) of the long leg of my L with the sink in the middle of it and contemplated putting a seam and asked me about it. I said I was happy we didn't have one, but if being seamless would jeopardize this piece and we'd have to start over, I'd take a seam. Granted our piece had particular movement and I'd been to the yard and there was no more of it. In the end, they went for it and it worked out fine. But by that point I trusted him enough to say he needed to do what he thought best as the professional. (Granted that's burned me in other areas of my reno with other professionals>.)

Blue222q: thank you for the compliment on the kitchen! I made a mistake in my measurements because we went through a few modifications on the island and I wasn't reading the most recent modifications when I posted the measurements. The wood counters are 24 1/2 inches each, and the quartz is 78 1/2 inches, giving a total of 127 inches. I love the wood counters. I have a lot of counter space around the perimeter of my kitchen (which is the same quartz as the island) and it really needed something to break up all the white marble looking quartz. Plus I have grayish marble floor tiles. The wood adds warmth to it and I really like the 2 surfaces. I have only had it for a few weeks now but I absolutely am grateful my kitchen designer thought of the wood. It is raised a little above the quartz which I suggest as well. So the wood is not flush with the quartz, intentionally. I could have gone with a thicker wood but for every inch you add on a wood counter, the cost really goes up and I didn't think I really needed a thicker piece of wood. The quartz was put down first in the middle of the island and then the wood on the ends. So the wood is not sitting on top of the quartz. The guys that put in the quartz, ran white caulk(I think that is what it is) on the seam where the wood meets up with the quartz. You don't notice it at all. I'm assuming the wood counter is glued onto the cabinets in the island but I wasn't around when the wood was installed. The book match is good and I'm assuming the more pattern your quartz has, the more you can hide the seam. I don't have a lot of pattern and you do see a very slight line that runs horizontal in the middle of the quartz. You really don't notice it. I'll have to take more photos for you to see it.

In the corner where the lazy susan is there should be supports screwed to both sides of the wall to provide support in the corner since there is no cabinet. As Joe said, the top should be reinstalled and supported properly and seam should be realigned. Good luck

My 8 year old Frigidaire is junk. NEVER EVER GET ICE/WATER IN THE DOOR OF A FRENCH DOOR REFRIGERATOR. Mine worked for a month and hasn't since after several attempted repairs...the repairman told me to give up on it...works against mother nature. Every time you open the fridge, warm air goes in and somewhat melts the ice compartment and it gets clogged. Within two years the tiered freezer drawer broke and we had to remove it. Now I only have the one tier. Then a couple of years ago, the bottom refrigerator interior drawer broke...we could still use it but we had to pull hard to open it and it wouldn't close all the way. We finally had to just remove it last week. My ex-husband just bought a new Bosch I think...he was surprised that he couldn't just walk away from it and flip the doors shut. You actually had to use both hands to close it properly. How can you do that when your hands are full of food? ugh. I felt bad for him....so try to see your refrigerator in person to see how well it opens and closes. Ill be in the market for a new fridge soon....I'll be reading this and other reviews very closely this time.

I'd wait the 7-10 days and get the counter without the seam. That's not a long time in the scheme of things. Since this is casesarstone I'll bet you can get them to make one large enough.

Are you having a backsplash along the sides? Could you concievably center the stone so that you had a .5" gap on each side and then conceal that with your side splashes?

Not the best option but it might get you through.

I am going to wait the 2 weeks. Not really a long time considering the enormity of this mostly DIY project. The best option is no seam so worth the wait.
I spoke with fabricator this morning. The slab cannot be measured until it gets to ditributor in about 7 days. Meanwhile he is going to fabricate a sample of caesarstone in the creme limestone and fedex it overnight. I should have it by Thursday.

If length is short, there is no choice-oh well. I will consider placing seam at sink. Thanks for your help.

morgne - splitting the difference on each side is one of the options so there would be 1/2 gap or strip of caesarstone seamed on each side. We do plan to use tile backsplash on each side but I have not chosen it yet, but we have some ideas. I will stop by Lowes today and get a few samples then try it out to see how much tile covers. In any event, there are viable options. I am over the disappointment of not having new counters today, and decided not to go into work as originally planned.

To each his own, but for myself, there would be no question of waiting the extra few days for a seamless installation. Once it is in, you will have to live it for a very long time. Whatever I do for our kitchen is permanent, as this is our last house. The thought of looking at a seam that should not have been thereÂ I would probably go out into the garage and hang myself! But that's just me.

Every project I have ever done for our home has ended up taking entirely too long, and that's the reason. To the extent that it is possible, I want it to be perfect. And some of it actually is! But all of it is work that has been done to the best of my abilities. If you're already wrapped up with the idea of making it perfect, my recommendation is to continue in that vein. In the long scheme of things, ten days is nothing. But how many times will you kick yourself if you end up with a job you consider inferior?
