Why did neighbors peach tree lose all leaves but mine intact?
Comments (32)Thanks for the short review. My choice of Red Globe as it was mentioned as good by fruitnut. And also a local Nursery which makes the top 5 for hardy fruit trees is Grandpa's. It's a "Grandpa's Choice" there Although it is mentioned it is susceptible to bacterial spot and frost tender. It must have a really good flavor for Grandpa to still suggest it. His other choices are Redhaven and O'Henry. So 3 out of all the peaches they sell., which this year is 24 cultivars. So it's not my experience. I developed a list of good candidates for my yard and all three are on it. Now Redhaven and O'Henry will make it in my yard first. Redhaven because it was developed here, and is a really decent peach. O'Henry for it's exceptional taste. it does have some problems. But really what cultivar is perfect? Both are old cultivars reviewed many times all over the place. I believe Scott mentions it is was of his best (O'Henry). Redhaven is one of the better Michigan cultivars, I have to have it. Again too first come peaches that work here, then one that should work here but untested, then experimental. So peaches suggested by a top 5 nursery that is in MI, have huge weight on my list. My choice on Redskin was based your review and also a review from a radio interview I heard. The grower was an author, and mentioned the cultivar as being very good. I can't remember who the writer was though? Maybe Lee Reich? Anyway I think with any I mentioned Mrs.G would be happy. I would base choice on ripening time compared to what she has. So mentioned a few. I can mention more, but know less about them, but still on my list. Winblo, Carmen, Carolina Gold, and Clayton would be excellent choices too. Speaking of grafting my Indian free looks like it has a canker. I removed canker, but the tree may develop more so I took a couple scions to try my hand at grafting. I may spread the canker, I took it off a clean scaffold, and it doesn't matter anyway. I'm moving and will have to start over in 3 years. these are all experiments at this point so another reason to graft. to practice, and to experiment. I'm putting the scions on Arctic Glo Nectarine. or Lucky 13. I'm not sure what kind of graft to use? But have a lot of time to figure that out. I'm going to practice graft cutting on my maple tree. See if I can get good cuts, or at least practice my cuts on scrape wood first....See MoreGranite's in...How is does this seam look to you?
Comments (41)If the difference in color is due to the slabs having been in the sun, then won't the rest of the counter later lighten to match? It is all exposed to light now. I would worry that repolishing the tops in the shop won't produce as good a surface as they have now because the shop doesn't have the tools that are used for polishing large surfaces that they slab producer had. splais, it looks to me like your foot is still in your mouth - now you are saying that Inerseian was careless in selecting the stone? When placing templates on stone, there are a lot of things to consider - sometimes one accepts less match in one place to get a better match elsewhere or to display the part of the stone one wants in a prominent place. Ineresian's counter looks great and I can understand the choice that was made there. One leg of our L is almost as long as the length of our slabs and the other leg was about as long as the length plus width of them so the only way to do the L with only one seam was to have the seam at the sink with the lengths of the slabs at right angles - no book match possible there. Also, we wanted to position the slabs on the stone to have a match between the counters of the L's and the backsplash pieces and we needed a couple of other long pieces placed for our window sill and outside counter. We were able to position the two sides of the seam where the granite movement was swirly so the lack of a grain match doesn't stand out but there is a bit of a color shift at the seam. A few inches of not perfect match on the seam was worth it to us to not have an extra seam and to have matches the other places we wanted. We spent a few hours with the fabricator placing the template on the slabs and getting all the pieces to fit....See More911, calling all refrigerator knowledge!
Comments (11)Bicyclegirl - you've emphasized in several threads how small your kitchen is. Are you aware of the door swing clearance needed for a single-door fridge? Please check measurements of single-door fridges and get back to us whether your kitchen can handle that. Or will you only be able to open the single door part way in your kitchen? Or will no one be able to enter your kitchen if the single door is open? One of the leading reasons people like french door fridges is that they don't need so much clearance to be wide open. You have not explained why you don't want a french door fridge. My friend has a Samsung french door fridge. No water/ice in the door, which is crucial because (a) it allows more space inside the fridge, and (b) because the water/ice in the door is by far the most repair-prone part of a fridge. No other part comes close for number of fridge repairs. My friend's Samsung interior is really large, surprisingly so. It's counter-depth, but frankly it sticks out a bit more than what I think of as counter-depth, just a bit, so again, it pays to check measurements. Here is a link that might be useful: The Samsung FD that Deeageaux mentioned...See MoreShould my designer have told me about a seam in my countertop?
Comments (10)The OP needs to post pics of this installation. A U-shaped counter will indeed need 2 seams. My counter has 1 seam in L-shaped counter. It was strategically placed, discussed with me in advance, and I went to the template layout at the fabricator’s to see with my own eyes before the counter was installed. I feel terrible for the posters who tell their stories on here that they were not informed by their fabricators or GC’s that they should be doing that. Having said that, all this info about counter fabrication for the consumer is available on the internet, and when making such an expensive purchase, it would be best to do a 5-minute google search. When you are buying a car, laptop, phone, refrigerator, or other costly item you probably do. So, while the installation appears bad - according to your verbal description since we haven’t seen pics - the fabricator is at fault, and you sound like you have a legitimate complaint, but you need to take some ownership too. I would speak with this design studio, and see what they say....See Moredan1888
