delay in cabinet delivery

Our cabinets have arrived at a warehouse less than 10 miles from here, but the delivery company is all booked up with people moving before Memorial Day weekend, so they won't show up at our house till next Wednesday! Grrrrrr.

I knew I should not have let the crew do demolition before the cabinets were in the garage... now it sounds like our fabricator cannot come to template before next Friday, which means that it is extremely unlikely that I will see the quartz or the sink installed before I leave to visit my sister in mid-June.

Oh, and I stopped by to get a price quote on the accent tile we like, and found out that it is almost double what I thought it would be per square foot!

Just a bummer of a day. And it's raining, too.

The only good news is that the Kohler Stages sink has actually shipped -- we had previously been told it might take up to 12 weeks.

I'm going to just cling to that little bit of good news....

Argh, it is so frustrating isn't it? You have my sympathies, we've all been there! In the meantime, focus on the good news - your beautiful shipped sink!

I can seriously understand your concern. You've already been reassured properly I think and I hope you feel that way, but I want to add some references. First, that soft spoken man, P. Allen Smith, has a good discussion on his website: Gardening Zones and Frost Dates The trisection of frost is interesting. Here in Florida we learn just how pertinent time at temperature is because we will freeze, but usually only for a very few hours. But I agree with mad_gallica's post that 28F is the traditional concern. Here: Planting perennial plants in 'early spring' in Zone 6 NJ You can see that Burpee's last frost dates are significantly later, since they are primarily concerned with ANNUAL veggies and flowers, i.e., what P. Allen Smith terms a "light freeze." Here: Growing Zone Information It is also interesting that P. Allen Smith's website lists an entire month range as "the average date." Picking the midpoint, the Zone 6 average would be around the middle of April. Adjusting later for 6a would put it toward the end of the month. So, on average, you and your roses seem to be sitting pretty! You may (or might not) find the ground workable before you know it. I hope the links are helpful. Best wishes for a beautiful spring.

another plug for using a credit card. when there is a problem, you can call the CC company and they go to bat for you against the dealer. The credit card companies have a lot more influence and ability to arbitrate a resolution in your favor because the dealer has more to lose if they try to fight the credit card company. Plus, worse comes to worse, and lawyers need to get involved, a CC company has them on retainer. You would have to pay for one - just like a dealer would. YES YES - pay with a credit card. Plus, there are other benefits that a credit card can offer, extend warranty, price protection, 90 accidental damage protection, and others. Recently I purchased something and returned it and the seller wouldn't refund the money. American Express said "don't worry, we'll take care of it and in the meantime you aren't responsible for the charge or any interest on it". Different cards have different features so you need to consult your CC company to find out what features and protection your card offers.

I purchased a Harden sofa about 2 years ago. It was manufactured in upstate New York and not in China or Vietnam like most furniture these days. It took 8 weeks to receive the sofa. Waiting 6 months for furniture is crazy. I would definitely start complaining and skip the salesperson. You need to start talking to managers. Also, check other stores in your area that carry the same brand name. Maybe they have it or at least have a better delivery. Tell them that so and so has it in stock or whatever they tell you. Then either get a discount for your troubles or cancel and buy somewhere else. Many years ago I bought a bedroom set from Sears and they told me 6-8 weeks. Then that passed by and nothing, they said no stock. I started calling other sears in town and can you believe one of the stores actually had stock. I had to cancel it from the first store and rebuy it at the other. Too bad you're not in Houston, we have a furniture store that guarantees same day delivery on everything! I think it's crazy how some of these places expect us to wait forever while they keep our money. Get mad and fight.

I know how frustrating it can be and you have my sympathies. Our house is torn up, no sheetrock up and our cabinets were ready to be delivered last week. They will hold in storage for one more week and then we start paying.

I think this illustrates one of the problems with American's today. They have grown accustomed to the fast food , gotta have it now mentality.

Things take time, relax and remember the cliche: "Rome wasn't built in a day".

If you want it fast - buy a mobile home, you can take it home today with "no money down".

I knew when I started this that the five-week timetable was probably optimistic. And I thought of another silver lining overnight -- I don't have to rush through the ceiling painting today. I can take three or four days if I want to!

In fact, if we choose a paint color for the walls today too, I may be able to knock that off as well, before cabinet install starts, seven days from today.

Just think of it as more days you can allow yourself to go out to eat! And not do dishes.

My kitchen demo will start in a week, and we will be without a kitchen and dining room all summer. I am mentally prepared for, but we'll see how I am doing in August.

Hang in there, it will be worth it!

It's easy to be optomistic at the start. When DH and I started our whole house remodel, I said it would take 3 years and he said five. We are now in year 7 . . .

We started with the kitchen (moved the old one to a new location) and are finishing with the kitchen (replacing all the old stuff we moved into the new location).

We are doing ours all DIY and it's been so long I'm not sure if I'll know what to do without some home project to be working on. This has been like a part time job for years!
