Beutiful home! I'd love to have all those windows

I would tend stick with blinds in same tones as your hardwood floors (I'm also struggling with decision on bamboo blind colors for kitchen or family room and am stuck on making final choice)

I can't not mention your sweet doggie too:) I think I need another one...we lost our Choc Lab this summer after 14 yrs and everytime I see a Lab or a pic of 1, my heart breaks.

I disagree, lisa. Respectfully. :) My monitor shows the largest expanse of color to be the wall color, followed IMO by the various browns in furniture, carpet, pillows, etc. Not to mention the dark-toned kitchen cabinets. I think an orange- or yellow-toned bamboo would fight with those colors, and that a chocolate-colored bamboo, perhaps in a mid-range between pale and very dark, would better.

I would go with a color close to your beautiful kitchen cabinets.

I took another look at it and the flooring looks different shade (darker)in the shot with the kitchen than of the family room only. Thanks Lynxe...valid point & I agree:) (see why I can't make a decision,lol)

We love her dearly but are watching her age before us.. She is our FIRST baby so it's really hard to watch.. But during the day she is a puppy at heart. At night she moans and groans every time she moves...

I have this magazine basket.. On this picture it reads more black but it is really more of an espresso color- what if i did a shade similar to this combo? Or is it too much?

The lighter tones in the basket seem less warm/orange than the floor. A mix of colors like the basket has can work, but I'd keep trying if it were a wt sample.

Home Depot and Lowes have samples you can bring home. Samples are the only way to decide on color. Also, if you choose an open weave, be sure to get a liner or the streaks of sunlight coming thru the shades will run you batty! ;)

I think a darker bamboo with mixed dark colors would work. Here is an example, but like annz said, you'd need a liner.

I third Annz's comment about making sure the shades are lined. I have the unlined version in my west-facing breakfast room and they aren't much help when the afternoon sun streams through the windows.

I'm in the process of choosing blinds too. I just brought home the Levolor book from Home Depot (20% off til 11/16). Take a look at these: Sisal textures brown, Brighton brown, Beads brown, Mesh reeds mesh tobacco, Classic tan, Bamboo essence shibori.

I couldn't decide on and then couldn't afford what I thought I wanted so just bought bamboo blinds at Lowes that they custom cut on the spot. They are too long for my window but at approx. 1/8th the cost of everything else I was looking at, I figured it'll do for now. I'm posting the pic so you can see what a darker bamboo with a liner looks like. Perhaps someone could help photoshop it for you.

I recommend either a lovely flat roman that is inset - or a plain 2" white blind to match the trim, again installed inset to show that lovely woodwork.

We put them (blinds) in our sunroom 6yrs ago - love them

Thanks for the suggestion jejvtr- I thought about doing a white blind- but think maybe I need something more with texture to add a little "umph" to the room?? I may end up calling smith and noble if I can't make it to HD or Lowe's was planning on going today, but sick children + DH away on business= homebound mama!!

I have bamboo pull shades, like remodelfla's picture shows.

I put room darkening roll up shades behind them. When I want defuse light, and can lower just the bamboo, but if I need it DARK then I lower the shades too.

I agree on going medium tone, like your floors. Otherwise you will have four big black holes, imho.

I like fabric roman, but i am assuming that custom and then a whole 'nother price point

I know this is a photo of a bathroom, but I think that the blinds will look good in your space. I would stay away from the bamboo only because I think it's a really different feel than the rest of your room, and these would be a more consistent look.

Still haven't decided what I am going to do yet. As much as we can't stand the sun shining in our eyes, we don't want to jump into a decision we will regret so we are really taking our time. I have an appointment with Smith & Noble in a few weeks so i am hoping they have some good insight as to what material might work best in that room.. Will definitely keep you posted!!

Bali Blinds will gladly send you free swatches and they have various tools to help you determine which samples would work best. There is a mobile app for sample and style selection help. They also have a virtual decorator on their website and an Ask the Expert tool on their FB page. The virtual decorator on the website lets you pick your wall, floor, furniture and accessory colors and then you can plug in the fabrication and style that you are considering. It helps a lot and it's fun too.

gillylilly, just curious if you made any decisions about your window coverings. I'm in a similar situation and I'm considering woven shades as well. Not sure if I should go with a light filtering liner or a blackout liner....

Funny you should ask. I just received them (I ordered them from Smith & Noble) and they are sitting in my dining room waiting for the installer to come out and put them up. I ended up getting a light filter/ but not blocking liner. I do like them, but can't get a good feeling quite yet. I am hoping by next week I will have them installed and I will post some photos!! Good luck!
FYI Smith and Noble while pricey was less pricey than the local stores (not big box stores) but the designer came out and helped me figure out exactly what would look best.
