Does anyone have a Christmas tree on your front porch?

Just wondering if anyone ever put up a Christmas tree on your front porch for the season. My hubby bought me an artificial tree on clearance last season for the front porch, and I'm so excited to put it up on Friday. Anyone have pictures they'd like to share? Or any pictures of how you decorate your front porches would be great! Thanks!

I've done that in the past. We ended up with a free artifical tree one year. I put it in the middle of my narrow front porch in front of some windows. Then I strung dark red lights and glittery garland. It was pretty and fun. I'm trying to remember how I weighted or secured it....don't recall.

My mom used to wrap boxes with a brick in them to put around the trees out front. That was always fun.

I like to put decorative pillows on the wicker...I usually just wrap an outdoor pillow in holiday fabric and secure with safety pins.

Lights, a pretty wreath...those are classic around here.

We got 2 trees one year: 1 for the living room and 1 for the family room. Well gee, trees look a lot smaller outside when picking them out! One tree was so tall, I put it out on the patio and decorated it with large outdoor ornaments that I already had. Also put lights on it. It look great. I added some of those decorative bird feeders, the ones shaped like bells and stars with birdseed on them. The birds loved it and loved the shelter of the tree. I'm going to put one out in the yard off the patio this year so we can see it from the kitchen.

Hi Roberta, I foudn this thread rather late as I was looking for something else, but thought I would share a little info with you. Our neighbors have a very large cut your own tree farm that has all the bells and whistles. Both of my teens have worked there during the season and I've gotten to know the owners very well. They don't charge for the wagon rides, reindeer, vist with Mrs. Claus, etc., but it is built into the cost of the trees. They will tell you right up front that their trees aren't the cheapest in the area but that they provide a lot besides the tree. The team of horses that they rent to pull the wagons cost $1500 per day. Yes, $1500 per day! That's a lot of trees just to cover your horses! The first thing that they will say about their operation is that you really need to work at it all the time. They actually sold the business on contract at one point and moved out of state, but the buyer did not put much effort into the business and eventually defaulted on the contract. They came back and have the place running better than ever. In the last few years, they started growing other trees for landscaping to balance the seasonality of the Christmas trees. That foresight will serve them well as this past year was the worst season in recent history. I've heard this from them as well as two other owners of cut-your-own farms. The rain that we had in early December really hurt sales this year. Also keep in mind that your busiest times will be the weekends from Thanksgiving to Christmas. My kids both enjoyed their jobs, especially because it was a great way for them to make a fair amount of money in a relatively short time, but they did find out that they had to sacrifice doing other things because of working all those weekends. I don't have a half-back tree, but I do have a small living room and an artifical tree. I set up my tree, decorate it (leaving much of the back empty) and then bend the back branches up at about the half way point or maybe just a little bit more. Then I shove the tree into the corner as fall as it will go without damaging the walls or looking funny. I don't think anyone has ever realized how much of the tree is actually not fluffed out. (And, so what if they have. It always looks pretty to me.)

I tend to do my inside first, then the outside Last year I bougt 2 sets of the Alpine tree (6 in all-ingraduate heights & placed them in each of my 6 front windows. Love the look-takes up less room & it looks like a mini forest of tree in the window..white lights, of course! Opted to put my 6' blue spruce out front and am going to attempt to decorate with Flamingo's clear balls filled w/popped corn & tie onto the branches w/red ribbons,so they're showy during the day & white lit at night I have 4 nice planters that will hold greenery aross the 28' in from with my 4 lighted big 12" sparkle balls atop the greenery sprigs. Hectic week upcoming..helping w/20 centerpieces for a 91st birthday party. signing up for Medicare on Tues & star my eyedrops soon after for cateract surgery in my left eye on 12/01 and again 12/08 in my right eye. NO rest for the wicked, I guess! Not 1 bit of shopping started either...been so busy w/Ernie! He got home from rehab on Friday-seems to be doing fine.

In my neighborhood, it's a wreath on the door, some houses have wreaths hanging from all the front windows (I have them on the 3 front-facing 1st floor windows), some have roping over porch or wound around columns, and several have candle lights in each window (I do the same on front and sides - not on back). NO ONE has the roof line outlined in lights, nor are their any blow-up things in the yards. It's all very festive and pretty and quite tasteful. One can see a lite Christmas tree in a window of virtually every house. In one subdivision I drive by on my way to my vet's office, there is a house that is about as tarted up as the above pictures. It must take them weeks to put it all up and take it down, and their electric bill must soar. Oh - the lights flash as well. Glad I don't live across the street - all those lights and all that flashing would drive me nuts!

I did it a couple of years ago and will be doing it again this year....mainly due to a kitten in the house.

I decorated with white lights and a 5' Santa that stands next to it. For the tree skirt I used coco fiber...the coconut liners for baskets. You can buy it by the foot at garden stores.
I laid cuttings of holly/berries, beautyberries, nandina and conifers on top of the coco tree shirt since that went better with my Santa. He's an old world (resin) Santa, carrying a lantern and staff.

We started doing that a few years ago when the plant that used to live there died right after Thanksgiving. We just put a little tree in a can of water, sank the can into the soil in the pot, and added some simple decorations. It looked so joyous and festive that we've done it every year since. It's amazing how well a live tree lasts in that setting...

I have two trees on either side of my front door. My friend downsized this year and gave them to me and I'm so excited. So pretty at night with the lights on.
