When do you take down your Christmas decorations?
Comments (25)dedtired, that's the "old" Annie. I used to decorate everything, indoors and out. I have Christmas mugs and Christmas platters, Christmas dishtowels and Christmas bowls. Ashley has a huge collection of snowglobes, probably 50 or 60 of them, and Amanda has nearly that many nutcrackers. Amanda doesn't even put them up at her house, LOL, they stayed packed in the basement this year. Ashley didn't get anything out either. ?Several years ago I realized that I just dreaded Christmas, I was learning to despise it with a vengeance, all the commercialism, the glitz, the hoo-rah. I spent so much time fiddling with decorations, baking cookies, mailing cards to people I haven't seen for years that I didn't have any time to enjoy any of the Christmas things I really loved. So I stopped. Now I watch the Muppet Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Charlie Brown. I bake cookies with the grandkids and I go to the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and the family Christmas party. I even gave up the "Christmas Eve party for 40 family members where I did all the cooking". This year I blew $75 and rented the townhall and everyone brought a dish to pass. Now with Elery's family I have "Christmas stuff" to do with them too, so I need to have some time for that. So, now that I have Elery and his family to add to the celebrations and Dad's gone and the grandkids are here and Ashley's mostly gone, things are changing. What will Christmas eventually become? Darned if I know, but every year it changes just a little bit..... Annie...See MoreOrnaments/Tree Decorating for Christmas?
Comments (40)NewHomeBuilder, Thank you so much...that was so sweet! "I would chuck it all and just concentrate on the true meaning of the season, if it were not for the kids." Oh NewHomeBuilder, Do I EVER know what you mean! Six years ago I announced "No Gifts" for adults. I decorate a large box in Christmas wrap and put it by the front door. Anyone who comes to the house during the season, can't bring a gift but must bring the item I've selected for that year for the L.A. Mission and homeless. First year it was mittens. Second year it was socks. One year, Blankets. Last year I went out on a limb and asked for coats, never thinking I'd get a big response. WHOA....it was the biggest haul ever! Before the New Year we make the drive and distribute. Then go have lunch and talk about and count our blessings. Do our kids (yours and mine) have a little of the same DNA? They notice if I've skimped but I sure don't see them knocking down our front door to come help put it all up or take it down! LOL OK, confesssion time: Beaded Icicles.....Bought those about 7 years ago when Big Lots was closing it's doors in our neighborhood. A huge bag of continuous beaded garland, white or gold for $3. Don't know what I was thinking....I bought 10 bags. I could wrap my whole neighborhood in those continuous strings of beads. Did I mention each bag was a continuous string of beads? :) After a few years of fighting them, trying to get them untangled no matter how neatly I wrapped them after the holidays, I gave up. I cut them into long strands, 3 to 8 inches each, and now use them as Icicles all over the house and tree....See MoreWhat's your neighborhood's holiday style?
Comments (51)My neighborhood is about 1/2 decorated. We are an older neighborhood with quite a few people that are retired and others that do not celebrate. The neighbors next door to us and directly across the street have second homes, where they are spending the holidays, they did not decorate. No consistent decorating style of those who stay home during the holidays, both white and colored lights with one light shower. The light shower actually looks better than I thought it would, it would really work well if they combined the shower with some basic lights. No blow-ups, but a few attractive lawn decorations. Many of the neighbors have Christmas trees in their windows, probably the most consistent Christmas decor here. Unfortunately, we do not have windows in the front. One thing that we have that is a little unusual, is our side of the street backs up to a ravine/small canyon. Many of us on both sides of the ravine put lights along our decks or the top level of yard in the back. Looks very pretty. Our tree can be seen through our windows by some of our neighbors with homes backing to the canyon. My daughter who is 22 and I, go out for a night of viewing Christmas lights every year. We have some near-by neighborhoods that do fabulous displays....See MoreSHOW YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE/DECOR HERE
Comments (549)Ooh Valentine’s Day! I didn’t even think about that. Hmmm maybe I should store them somewhere else and not with the Xmas decor. Thanks Nicci! I even had a covid test yesterday even though I didn’t think I had it. But with DH and the girls going back to work and school next week we figured it’s best to know for sure. Mostly I had drainage causing me to cough all night causing time to be tired all day. But it was rainy and gross so I picked a good few days to lay around and do nothing....See Morearcy_gw
