Help me Furnish & Decorate My Living Area &Dining Room of my new home
Comments (26)I love the clean, uncluttered look of your home and you've made some great furniture choices. My first thought, though, is that I would try to rework the sofa/sectional placement. It really is unwelcoming looking to me to have the back where it is facing a wall, when it could be oriented to look into the room and out the windows. It seems like if it were placed in the corner under the stairs that it would feel open and invite you to come in and sit. I'd hate to be cooking in the kitchen and have the family or guests with their backs to me. If you are having a TV in another room close by, do you need one in that room, too? If, so placing a 70" unit will probably only work as you have it. But, to me, it's not going to look like a living room but more like a movie theater, which is fine if that's what you're going for. It seems like it won't be a cozy conversation area, though. I might actually flip the rooms and put the dining room where you have the sofa now. I was looking at lights used with dining rooms and ghost chairs and saw this, maybe would work in the living room? Kind of fun. don't know if it would look as good without the colored walls though. And I thought something like these were interesting to consider for over your table:...See MoreLove my new foyer bench ! How do I decorate around it?
Comments (3)Can you take a straight on shot of the foyer so we can better see the area rug placement? From looking at the floor on the sides of the walls it looks like it's off center. That would bug me. I think I'd prefer a long runner. How wide is the entrance/hall? Maybe a small area rug at the door and then a runner. Very pretty house! I'd leave your console with mirror as is. It looks nice. I really like the bench but that's a long wall. I like the above suggestions. I also wondered about doing three related groupings. Something right over the bench and one on each side. Whatever you do with art I think large. I think the photos and diploma frames are too small. If you want to use them I'd get larger frames and mat them. Are they 8x10s? At least 11x14s and you can easily find mats and frames inexpensively for that size. ETA- Looking again, it looks like the bench is centered on that wall and the area rug intrudes into it's space. I think we need to see a different view of the foyer area but I think (hard to tell) if you keep the rug the bench would look better moved down more to the left. With art then above it it would be anchored and look intentional event though it's not centered on the wall. I had to do this with my foyer. The buffet I have is moved down because of the door so the mirror and buffet aren't centered but it doesn't look weird if that makes sense. Also, could you put the front feet of the console over the area rug so that it's centered? Again, hard to tell. These suggestions may not work but things to consider/try!...See MoreHow to add architectural interest to a completely boring Phoenix home?
Comments (20)I'm afraid that cut-out wall would forever bother me. Could the holes be filled in and the wall continued toward the other wall on the right, so that there is still a pathway on the left? If not load-bearing, why not remove it, and I think someone mentioned putting a wooden beam in the opening, which would certainly add architectural interest....See MoreHow do I style my awkward foyer?!
Comments (6)Since your door appears to open towards the wall that the vacuum cleaner is on, I would leave the table where it currently is located. I would move window over table to wall where vacuum is. Consider finding some black and white pics and put in windows of window frames. Move umbrella tin to corner of back wall. Add two nice coat hooks on each side of window frame and shoe trays under hooks.Consider round mirror or picture over table with greenery/flowers on table. Add a tray for key/ mail etc. Need a larger sofa as suggested. Consider painting bench black and placing perpendicular to sofa or on opposite back wall....See Morefnmroberts
