New and need help with art placement (pics included)

I have been lurking on this board for about a month now and am learning a lot about how to go about decorating the house. I am not really good with this kind of stuff so appreciate any help I can get.

For the last two months we have been doing some remodeling to our house and we also replaced the vanity, tiles. toilet, mirror and light in our bathroom. We used to have the standard 90'builder huge mirror before and now that we replaced the mirror and light, one side of the vanity feels like something is missing. I am trying to figure out what can be done. Here are the pictures of the bath room.

Will having some form of art on the wall help? I was trying do a mock up with paper as I have seen suggested here. Will one of the setup like picture below help.

I am open to any suggestions you have.

I need a lot more help with other rooms and will post them in different thread.

I think a wall cabinet above the toilet would balance the bathroom out and give you more storage space. I'd go with a dark wood. You can go to amazon and overstock and type in "Bathroom wall cabinets" to get an idea.

Thanks domesticvantrainin for the suggestion. I did not think about it. The once concern I have with that is the wall cabniet matching the Vanity. The vanity is cherry with a stain. I will take a look to see if I can find anything.

Any other suggestions?

I'm new to this forum, having spent most of my time till now over on the Kitchen Forum and Great Impressions . . . Hello Teacats! I love your armoire,Bcarr. Can you show us a close-up of it? It looks like a couple others I've seen and admired here in NM. It is busy and dominating, though (in a wonderful way, I mean), so I'd personally go with artwork that didn't mimic the squares in the armoire doors. Of the ones you've show, I like the second choices the best, as they have a more linear look. I'd avoid squares in the artwork or a set of 4 pieces of anything.

I'm thinking the art work is also too similar to the bedding. How about something with a little more color to bring the eye to the bed. Are you going to introduce any other color in the room? I think I see a grayish blue in the bed cover, maybe something larger with a lighter background and some of that color in it to compliment the bed.

You could use a much shorter lamp there to get rid of it blocking the view. However, it seems like a piece of art centered on that wall might not work......... that wall is basically the dividing line between two different rooms, right? (Yes, it's a great room... but the way the furniture is.... it just seems divided.) I would be confused about what to put up for that reason alone.... :) Personally, I would do a grouping of mirrors.... Something hung like these "Garden District" mirrors from Ballard: I'm not sure if the dimensions on these particular ones are right for your space, but I think something similar could work and look very nice.

I want to thank you all for your wonderful suggestions, and honest (but kind) criticism. Every comment/suggestion was appreciated. I’ve cringed over some of the the mean, snarky comments that I’ve sometimes seen in other Houzz discussions (I’m sure you know the usual culprits), so I really appreciate the courtesy and the genuine willingness to help that I’ve experienced here. You could do a floating shelf and lean the artwork on it (or accessories---- apothecary jars?) or you could put a trainrack there ---- or a glass shelf.

I don't think i would do a cabinet, because I think it will look crowded. I'm not so concerned with the art work, but the mirror and lighting fixture feels very stark. I would think about a deeper paint color, perhaps changing either the mirror or the vanity, and looking into a different type of light bulb. That light bulb appears to be giving off a fluorescent type light and I don't think it's very flattering.

door1, I was also thinking about maybe doing a glass shelf to hold something. I will look into that.

htnspz, I think my DH agrees with you in regards to the wall cabinet. I do love the mirror and vanity both are new so changing that is not possible (may be I should have posted here before selecting not really good with this stuff). I can surely look into changing the bulbs in the light fixture. I also agree about the paint color in the bathroom but don't have time to do this before holidays.

akshars, here are 2 more pics. I have this trainrack from RH but we didn't hang it above the loo. I am looking for something to hang above the loo, as well but I haven't found it yet!

Art above the toilet would complete your decor perfectly, imo.
The room looks great, crisp and elegant.

door1, I have tried looking online for the glass shelf yesterday and could not find one I like that does not cost $100. I will keep looking.

Mitchdesj, I will most likely do the art on top of the toilet for now and keep looking for something that might work better.

Thanks to everyone for helping me out.

Now all I need to do is get DH to be ok with it. He is very Picky for a guy :)
