Help with choosing art for fireplace - pics included

Well, since I've decided to focus on the fireplace for now I have been browsing art.com over the past few days as well as looking at a few mirrors. I was wondering if any of you all could critique my choices and offer any opionions as to which would be best...

Other suggestions (pieces) gladly considered!!!

Here is the space -

Here is one more of the room/furniture. Rug is being switched out for a much larger one. I haven't added accessories yet and hope to buy another chair to complete the "U" -

The fireplace mantle is approx 80" long and 36" to the top of the niche. Size on some of these pieces might be an issue unless I could find them larger - is that usually possible?

Hmm...of those I like #3 the best - the 4 'square'. However, have you considered a round or large mirror? The big armoire has so many squares that I'm afraid what ever you might put above the mantle will compete. I'm thinking a round mirror will not take away from that piece, as it looks like a nice focal point. But I am not sure about round...

Or, would a large round clock be too tired looking?

Maybe a photoshopper will help you!!

sorry, i really think it needs to be a rectangle that is hung slightly above the niche level, so that it doesn't look like you are trying to match it up...plus the fp is skinnier than the armoire and niche. i like all of the colors in the pieces you chose-- but i would keep looking until you find the right one!

i agree with whenicit that the squares would be too much.

This is a very rough and quick attempt to illustrate what I think both the previous comments are aiming that -- not the perfect solution, but the point is that the stuff on the dresser is badly arranged. You need two centres of interest, one clustering around the lamp (which shouldn't be so close to the edge) and one on the other side of the dresser. Hang the art between them. In this example, below, we are missing the taller item you need on the right to balance the lamp.

Either piece would work nicely in your room. I personally like the one with the house, but you need to choose art based upon what YOU love. I agree that a large canvas is called for, and like the size you're considering for the wall. I'm a big believer in large works to create an impactful focal point in a room, and think you're on the right track.

Paint the whole room a light, neutral color. Take the woodwork white. Paint the bookcases to match the wall color so it blends into the wall. Limewash the fireplace and add lights on either side if at all possible. Add a decorative screen as well. Switch out the ceiling fan for a large diameter drum shade light that is flush to the ceiling on a dimmer. Look at putting a graphic wallcovering on the tv wall. Computer area under pass-thru to kitchen or create a small reading. See attached floor plans for conceptual ideas since I don’t have actual dimensions.

Art is very personal. Look on Great Big Canvas for art printed on canvas which is safer to hang in an area where kids will be sitting. There are thousands of choices but you can use filters. They have 50% off sales all the time so don’t order until then. https://www.greatbigcanvas.com/ I would not get a glass topped table for everyday use with young children. Have you measured your space? A 48” table will be tight if the width of the space from wall to cabinet is only 7 or 8 ft.

Thanks for the input. I am looking for a large oval mirror with a black distressed frame but haven't found one large enough yet. With the fireplace being 80" wide I figured that it should be around 50" wide. All of the ones that I have found have been only in the 30's.

Here's a landscape -- perhaps as a canvas transfer -- which makes it look like a painting -- and hung unframed?

JUST a thought ---- really!!!

Would still love to see a round mirror photoshopped into place ...... if at all possible ......

I really like the Down the Lane pictures teacats posted. The additional colors would add a little someting more.

Remember with print art you can add multiple matts and wider frames and really expand the size. The "Down the Lane" picture become 47" square when triple matted and framed in a 3" frame like Zeus Champagne (listed under black frames but not really all black)

I'm new to this forum, having spent most of my time till now over on the Kitchen Forum and Great Impressions . . . Hello Teacats! I love your armoire,Bcarr. Can you show us a close-up of it? It looks like a couple others I've seen and admired here in NM. It is busy and dominating, though (in a wonderful way, I mean), so I'd personally go with artwork that didn't mimic the squares in the armoire doors. Of the ones you've show, I like the second choices the best, as they have a more linear look. I'd avoid squares in the artwork or a set of 4 pieces of anything.
