A wonderful, cozy room! I would mount the tv on the wall, to balance the height of the hutch and the fireplace. I would then slide the console cabinet over to the left, so that the mounted tv was not centered over it, but the right side of the cabinet was just a couple of inches to the right of the tv. That would be the place I would use one of the baskets of plants. Once the console is shifted left, you could place a pretty lamp on the left end of the console top. I think you need to pull the sectional out from the hutch even a little more, so that essentially you have a walkway between the sectional and the hutch. I would also look to add some other interesting pottery pieces in reds or patterns that echo the feel of the rug. I would also slide the hutch to the left, so that it was just over the plug. Not centering it behind the sectional will help open the space. The other basket of plants could go on the end of the hutch that faces the kitchen. I love the rug, but I would turn it the other way, so that the fringe is coming out the side of the sectional near the hutch, and the whole side that faces the kitchen has rug under it. It feels odd to me when I look at the back of the sectional, which is what people will often see, and see fringe coming out from under it, and then just in one part. I would take the print pillows from each end of the sectional and place them on the wood chairs. It will warm up that seating a bit, and pull some of the pattern to that area of the seating. The sectional will also seem a bit more inviting with a few less pillows on it. FInally, tho I love the fireplace as it is, I think the contrast in planes is lost with it all painted white. I would consider painting the more recessed left side and the brick on the underside of the hearth in a color halfway between the white and what is on the walls.

WOW! Thank you for bringing my thread to 'life' again! I haven't been on here in awhile and I was thrilled to see it pop up again! Thank you! The room still looks the same, just more baby toys! But I am having a party in a few weeks and I would like to spruce it up! lmayer- I have been trying to decide for the last few months about the window treatments and I am leaning more toward roman shades and I think a nice splash of color would be nice...any ideas? I can't part with the spiral votive holder...I decided to somewhere else in the house. katy texas- oh, I just LOVE that print...I had no idea they had a poster of it! This makes it MUCH more affordable for me!!! I'll show hubby. neesie- fabulous idea! Thanks. It just looks SO bare especially since we still haven't purchased any doors or screens for it yet. I would LOVE to get some more ideas from everyone, I'm having SUCH a hard time with this room. It's getting there though....

Thanks to everyone for all your help! Yes I am in Louisiana and fans are de rigeur here. But honestly, I never use the fan in the living room except when I mop the floor so it dries faster. Now in the bedrooms, fans are a necessity because I can't sleep without one. I love some of the mockups of the lights. I really think now that removing this "glare bomb" fan will go a long way to reducing the ugly yellowish cast to the room. The fan really does not go with the decor at all. I love transitional style with MCM and even maybe a little Hollywood Regency glamour and chinoiserie mixed in, and that Victorian style fan definitely looks like it belongs in an 1890's parlor! Now I have to find the right light. I really love the look of drum shade pendants, but I have noticed they don't give off that much light because the shade blocks most of it. I guess I will have to start looking. BTW, there is no coral in the rug. It is a brown color. Guess maybe it appears that way in the pictures.

I cannot make out what is around the fireplace opening. It looks like there are some marble slab pieces just floating there with some drywall. Can you post a higher resolution picture closer to the fireplace so we can make out the details. The Mantel is beautiful, but the fireplace does not fit the proportions of the mantel. Is it a direct vent gas fireplace with a sealed glass front? Also, are you keeping the hearth? I see it has a "B" in the center, which seems rather intentional. Here's a mockup that helps bring some things back into proportion. Just using marble slab like what is already there, but made to fit the whole fireplace. Unfortunately, this type of screen will sit right on top of the "B". Just thought I'd throw this together to start the conversation.
