need help with tuscan kitchen color

HI. I have one wall in my kitchen painted SW BRITTLEBUSH (a deep yellow/gold color) and I'm looking for another color to go with it. I'm leaning toward somekind of red but open to other colors to bring out a Tuscan feel.

There would be one complete wall (close to the brittlebush wall an 3 other walls painted in the other color. the other walls are pretty much covered with 2 windows, kitchen cabinets. This isn't a large space.

The paint colors I have paineded 12"squares of sample colors on the wall SO FAR are SW Brick Paver, SW Roycroft Adobe, SW Spicey Hue, and ACE hardware Hot Ember. I also have SW Red Cent somewhere but not loving that one.

I'm TOTALLY open to other colors than red family.

Also, need color suggestions for my kitchen cabinets are painted an awful teal color that came with the house.

Leaning toward an off white or beige tones, but way open to other suggestions. This room gets an eastern exposure.

I purchased this gorgeous soft yellow from Sherwin Williams called Patience. It's like very soft butter, and with an antique glaze....it would be fab for a tuscan style kitchen. You could also go with something like a burnt pumpkin color for the cabinets, or even a gorgeous tan like Ralph Lauren Parchment. Writers Parchment (RL) would be a nice compliment for ceiling paint, and while personally I don't do light color trim, it would be a nice flow if you did the Parchment cabs.

If you go with color (ie burnt pumpkin) on the cabs, then tone down your walls to soft tans and beige. If you go with tan or beige for the cabs....run with the deeper colors in the room.

Have you considered doing a wall treatment like a dry brush? The thing that often makes a "tuscan" kitchen feel "tuscany" (my new word) is a multi tone wall finish, much like you see in old buildings in Europe.

This is a construction picture, but it shows my walls, which are a base of yellow, with burnt umber, ivory, and brown glazes done in layers. I had an artist do it, but it's not hard to replicate with some glaze from Home Despot and a big brush (I've done it many times). If you want to really get that "tuscan" feel....you might want to consider something like this.

As far as the special painting techniques go, my friend that is painting for me isn't comfortable with special techniques, and I would have a very hard time with it myself. Painting is NOT my thing at all.

I kept hearing, more than 5 years ago, that the next new "Trend" or whatever you would like to call it, would be "Copper Appliances"--it looks likethey are getting closer with the "Oiled Bronze" now. We would have gone with copper appliances for the ones that aren't panelled (DW & Fridge) had they been available, not cause they "Might have been the coming trend" but we just like copper. All our Switch plates are copper, as is our faucett and the light above the sink---Anyway,We will be anxious to see them. I don't know if you saw the thread about the "Floating Glass Jenn-air Appliances, and the problems the user was having, I suspect Your's are Jenn-air's Latest? Couple ways to protect yourself here. First buy from a dealer you know and Trust, and try to get a committment that "They Will Stand Behind Them"--Maybe they offer Service Contracts?---If not, See if you can get one Directly from Jenn-air, I don't , like some others here, recommend Service Contracts, but after seeing that thread, and a few other complaints about their appliances(Excluding Their Fridges which still seem to get positive Reviews)It might save you some Hassles later??? We do have the 48" Built in Jenn-air Fridge, & Love it, Trouble Free for over 4 years now, but that was before Jenn-air was bought by Maytag--which was subsequently bought by Whirlpool. I would also do some Googling for the Model Numbers you are interested in, see what kind of luck other folks have had. Good Luck with your new choices!! Gary

I think if you painted the cabinets white and the walls a very light, neutral color, they would almost disappear, but the texture would look good. Designers are always saying it's important to use texture in neutral rooms :) If you like stainless steel appliances, that would give you a bit of a modern look, maybe with a stainless steel hood, over the range. Here are a few pictures. The first one has the neutral colors and cool hood. The second is a bit loud, but (ignore the color) look at that beautiful marble table/island with black iron legs. That would be beautiful, modern, but still go with the old world plaster walls. Maybe black coutertops (granite or soapstone, even black marble?) for the perimeter countertops and possibly the same light marble as the island, for the backsplash tiles? Lots of stone would go with the plaster, wood floors (nice stain choice) white cabinets, neutral walls and stainless steel, IMHO.

that's odd, that they left that one white window! but yes, agree to doing them white. I love the woven wood window blinds. Gorgeous home. the finishes are beautiful. Interesting to see what furniture you decide to get. That Tuscan style isn't my first choice either. I don't think you can go wrong w/the white trim/baseboards/crown. If you do the white wainscot, white walls and trim, then hopefully you can bring some color in rugs, art, pillows, etc. What I'm really liking recently, is soft blush pinks w/white, some gold and silver. gray leather sofas, marble accents, soft wood,, tufted sofas, black and white prints, But with the white, I also love some dark wood elements. keeps the white from looking too sterile What is your style as far as furniture? this one is a lot of white! its nice, but I'd have to bring in a fiddle leaf fig tree, some other plants, and maybe a velvet accent chair in turquoise or pale lilac.and artwork. I love original artwork on canvas with colors or nature photography. I have a few Lik, King and Mangelsen works that I just love because they bring in color to the room.

"The paint colors are driving us crazy. The pale oak (on the lower left) appears so much more blue than any photo Ive ever seen online." I lived with Pale Oak for about seven years and really liked it . . . but, yes, there were times that it turned a blueish violet in my west facing room living room. In the east facing dining room, it read exactly like I wanted it to - a warm off white greige. So, it could be your exposure that's turning it for you. As others have mentioned I think it's good to choose the counters first, then paint. I am concerned with how your travertine floor will interact with counter tops you're considering. Travertine has a tendancy to nod towards pink. So be sure you take that into consideration in selecting your counter tops. Here are a couple of kitchens with travertine floors and white cabinetry. Take not of the counter tops.

I suggest SW 7710 Brandywine - it is a gorgeous color. I was hesitant when I saw the first coat go on - it was a little orange but when it was done (2 coats) it was awesome. I have it in my kitchen.... I tried red cent and a few others in that color family and none were to my liking....to red, to dark etc... I have mannered gold in my great room and golden fleece in my sunroom- all SW colors in the rooms beside my kitchen and they all go so well together everyone compliments the color scheme. Hope this helps.
I will tell you this I must have gone through 25 of the color samples when we built our house (moving in next week) and those color samples are not exactly dead on...what I mean is the brandywine looked sooooo much better when the painters put it on the wall then the 12 inch test I did on the wall. I was hesitant at first as I mentioned but my husband was the decision maker for this color... I picked out the other 8 in the house. Try the visualizer with the Brandywine it is much better than the samples that you get that I was told are NOT REALLY Paint from the folks at the SW store. When I told them I was going to use all of the sample to do touch ups they suggested NOT to b/c it is made differently - go figure!
BTW my floors are a cream porcelain...my cabinets are antique ivory (SW) I will be getting them chocolate glazed next month but my point it I too was going for a tuscan theme and I think I succeeded. GOOD LUCK!

I've been drooling over this photo gallery of Tuscan inspired home. I fell in love with the bathroom, and let's face it, since we're on a gardening website, the gardens! It has some pretty good kitchen ideas.

Crystal, thank you so much for the suggestions. I will look at those colors on the visualizer and maybe going to pick up some samples.
Do you have a picture of your home with the colors you have mentioned?
