update! de(con)struction has begun!
Comments (54)The Trilobite rock did not get placed in the wall. I am keeping it as a specimin. Cephalopods are primarily in the lower wall; I will try and get a picture later. I do have a good picture of one of the trace fossils we brough back "in situ:" 450-490 MILLION years ago SOMETHING (probably a trilobite, according to the book I have) was hunting for dinner in the mud. How cool IS that? I have an even larger trace fossil--I got my welder to make a table base for it--it'll be a small side table on the patio. I'll post a picutre of that when it's finished. NOW--a technical query--should I star a new thread when the project is complete? Y'all can e-mail (I have a clickable link on my memeber page) me with your opinions. I'd hate to take up more than my fair share of space...let me know what y'all think. They SWEAR they'll be finished by Friday. I'm not counting on it! melanie...See Morehand troweled Tuscan walls - non Tuscan backsplash
Comments (3)I think if you painted the cabinets white and the walls a very light, neutral color, they would almost disappear, but the texture would look good. Designers are always saying it's important to use texture in neutral rooms :) If you like stainless steel appliances, that would give you a bit of a modern look, maybe with a stainless steel hood, over the range. Here are a few pictures. The first one has the neutral colors and cool hood. The second is a bit loud, but (ignore the color) look at that beautiful marble table/island with black iron legs. That would be beautiful, modern, but still go with the old world plaster walls. Maybe black coutertops (granite or soapstone, even black marble?) for the perimeter countertops and possibly the same light marble as the island, for the backsplash tiles? Lots of stone would go with the plaster, wood floors (nice stain choice) white cabinets, neutral walls and stainless steel, IMHO....See MoreCan you help "De-Tuscan-ize" my bathroom?
Comments (12)I would paint the walls the cream color in the granite. Simplify the lighting and mirror frames. Why is there one in the center, along with a magnifying countertop mirror? Another mirror option is to extend them from backsplash to ceiling and join them at the corners. If you choose that, sconces at head height can be wired instead of the overhead fixtures. That entire corner of the bathroom doesn't play well with standard rug sizes. I'd really consider having a remnant cut to fit, bound, and a color that blended with the lightest color of the tile. Take everything off the countertops during a showing....See MoreDe-Tuscan-ing: faux finish fireplace ideas
Comments (52)Love those pendants! I love Tuscany but even when the faux Tuscan look was ”stylish” like you, I never liked it. That green is just gorgeous 3pinktrees! I have to admit I am a little OCD as far as something not being authentic and in your words, trying to be something that it’s not. I do like simple more than most, just ask Lyn. :))) It sounds like you know what you want and it will be gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what you do....See MoreEBL Interiors
