A few suggestions... There's a Restoration Hardware outlet at the Tulalip Outlet mall so you might find a few deals there. ( I remember you mentioned living in Edmonds, so it might be worth the drive up north.) Or, as Babs suggested, having a glass and mirror shop custom make a nice beveled mirror is very reasonable. When we remodeled our master bath we made a frame with some nice trim/molding that we bought from our cabinet maker (to match our cabinets) and had a mirror with an extra large bevel to fit in the frame. For our guest bathroom I found a simple, wide, solid wood, oversized picture frame at Aaron Bros. on sale for $20, and a local glass shop put a beveled mirror in it for me for $40. It looks fabulous! (We used a metal bracket called a hangman which makes it easy and safe to hang large, heavy objects.) In regards to the size, personally I think bigger is better, especially vertically. I've always noticed nicer hotels have wonderfully large mirrors - they really add a feeling of spaciousness to what are usually small rooms.

Jeannie, it depends on both the look you want as well as the light you need. There's no rigid rule for the "right" side light bar, but probably 30" to 36" centered over the 48" vanity would look good. But it may also depend on the fixture you pick: how many lights does it have, how much light do they put out, and what kind of material is the light shade? For example, you could have a 36" fixture with three 40 watt lights and heavily frosted glass that would put out much less light than a smaller 24" fixture with three 65 watt halogen lights and clear or slightly frosted glass. You also need to see if the lights direct much of the light up, down or out. For example, a fixture with its lights pointed up could be fine for providing soft illumination bouncing off the ceiling to light the room, but not provide much task light for your activities at the vanity; a fixture with its lights directed down could provide excellent lighting for the vanity, but leave the overall room feeling a little dark. It's best if you can see fixtures in a couple lighting showrooms, because these factors are often hard to judge looking at pictures in a catalog or web site. Even if a showroom doesn't have the exact fixture you want, if you see others by the same manufacturer it can help you gauge what you feel will work best for you. -- Eric

You don't have to match fixtures in different baths. In fact, you probably couldn't find a designer to recommend that. Builders do it because it is cheap and easy to put the same products everywhere and in every unit. As for the size, it is clearly a matter of personal taste. However, most women find it practical to have the light coming in at an angle rather than overhead.

I think a 3-light will probably work. A 2-light in a powder room, maybe, but you'll want something like 3x65W equivalents of light to get ready in the morning. As long as it's not wider than your vanity, a little larger or smaller than the mirror is not likely to be noticeable.
